Driftaway is a beautiful, tastefully furnished vacation home located at the end of Eastern Shores, a prestigious community on a mile-long point of land which runs east from Marsh Harbour, into the beautiful Sea of Abaco.
Driftaway is secluded and surrounded by clear turquoise water with views of numerous islands and yet is very handy to the amenities of town (approximately 2 miles). The property runs sea-to-sea with the Sea of Abaco on the north side. Driftaway also has its own protected deep-water 50 foot dock on the south side facing Sugar Loaf Channel.
The house is nestled within a tropical garden of colourful hibiscus, wild orchids, bromeliads, palms trees and winding stone paths.
Driftaway has two spacious master bedrooms (one with king size bed, one with queen), each with their own ensuite bathroom. Both bedrooms have large size closets/ceiling fans and a view of the Sea of Abaco. The bedrooms are separated by the large open airy great room which is equipped with a flat screen HDTV, stereo, CD and DVD.
The high vaulted ceilings and the orientation of the house to the cool gentle ocean breeze creates natural flow-through cooling. Every room is equipped with ceiling fans, including the 44 foot screened-in front porch and the sun porch off of the dining room. Three sets of double French doors open to beautiful views on three sides.
The kitchen is fully furnished, along with ice-maker, coffee grinder, microwave, blender and toaster oven. The dining room area has available seating for six.
Sun yourself on the large south facing deck furnished with lounges, patio table/chairs and a gas BBQ. There is also a pergola at one end when shade is needed. Two large pass- through windows from the kitchen serve the deck.
Relax on the muskoka chairs on the covered 44' front deck while enjoying the view of the Sea of Abaco.
You have a private sandy waterfront sitting area directly on the north side of the property. You can swim or snorkle by simply walking down six steps into the warm turquoise waters of the Sea of Abaco. You also have the availability of snorkeling at several locations within very short distances by boat or by car. Fowl Cay just south of Man-O-War and Mermaid Reef are two of many reef areas for your enjoyment.
Marsh Harbour has many restaurants to choose from (2-3 miles approximately from Driftaway) that you can get to by rental car or by taxi. You can also rent a boat to visit the local islands for lunch or exploring. Hope Town, Guana and Man of War are a few of the many small islands that can be reached by your own rental boat or by ferry which is conveniently located two minutes away from the house by car or a ten-fifteen minute walk. Enjoy lunch at Nipper’s on Guana and enjoy their beautiful beach and excellent snorkelling.

Bob and Linda,
What a wonderful week Mike, Marianne, Cheryl and Bob had at Driftaway. Snorkeling at Fowl Cay, Mermaid Reef (with frozen peas) and Sandy Cay. Ate and drank at Curly Tails, Mangoes, Snappa's, Harbour Edge and Cracker P's. Each day, after our adventures, it was wonderful to come "Home" to Driftaway. We enjoyed grilling on the deck, morning coffee and resting on the chairs on the "north beach". Great time!!! Thanks!!!
We arrived in the early afternoon and found the house open and welcoming. The first words out of both our mouths was "Wow!". Sugar Loaf channel to the south and the Sea of Abaco to the north, with great views of each and a nice breeze blowing through the house. The deck that first night was spectacular, with the full June "super moon" shining above us. The location afforded nice privacy yet it was only a few minutes by car to town for shopping or eating out. The ferry dock is only a 20 minute walk (it's hard to get a parking spot there Monday-Friday, as we discovered) which gave us the opportunity to take a 25 minute ferry ride to Hopetown (a "must see") where we spent a day and had a great lunch at Captain Jack's. In the afternoons, we really enjoyed ourselves at the private beach, swimming and snorkeling, then coming back in the early evening to watch some beautiful sunsets.
The owners provided everything to make this vacation one of our best ever! The nice home and beautiful landscaping; the pre-trip email and the "Driftaway House Book" containing all the information, maps and recommendations we needed; the boat dock where you can rent and have your own boat to get around; the gas grill on the deck for your own cookouts; a nice library of books for vacation reading; and very comfortable eating, living and sleeping accommodations, all made for a very stress-free and relaxing time (did I mention the private beach?).
We are already looking forward to our next opportunity to visit Driftaway!
We have stayed at Driftaway before and are always impressed when we arrive to find it so clean, well maintained and stocked with everything we need to have another amazing holiday. This time was our 20th anniversary so this was a very special vacation. With the north facing front porch and the south facing deck we enjoyed them both as we got ready for our day, enjoyed our breakfast and then later in the day for sunning and relaxing some more.
We spent almost every day this trip on the beach (Tahiti Beach and Nipper's by boat and in the water just in front of the house.) We visited the bay just across the way at Matt Lowe’s Cay to visit the many turtles that appear to call that area home.
We love how quiet the area is. We never once heard the neighbors during our 7 night stay. We had everything we needed right there; snorkeling, swimming and relaxing. Being inside the gated community at the end of Eastern Shores Point makes this a quiet, calm and private place to stay. Not like a resort with activities and lots of people. This is a total get away and we will be back to this house again! It was comfortable, clean, well appointed, we cannot say enough about it! Thank you! We will definitely return and we highly recommend Driftaway to families and couples. Thanks again Bob and Linda!
Like some reviews I've seen, I am reluctant to submit mine because I'd hate to find it already booked when I plan my next year's vacation! I'm going to do it anyway (an exercise in generosity because the owners are so kind.)
I love the mornings outside the house, where one can simply walk 50 feet and have a front row seat overlooking the Sea of Abaco. The area is very quiet and the house is pleasant and clean. The kitchen is well-equipped. It is a pleasure to prepare our evening meals there--and in the bedroom, the bed is comfortable and the closet and drawers are more than adequate. The owners are always available to assist if need be. We have only to contact the housekeeper. I've stayed there each year for the past 7 or 8 years so again, I love this house, and will wait patiently again for another year, until I can come back to this idyllic spot.
I cannot express enough the enjoyment we had on our vacation staying at this lovely home. Steps away from your own small private beach, short commutes to grocery store and restaurants, a very quiet area with a very friendly housekeeper and gardener.
It has everything you need to stay right there in the house, beach chairs, beach towels, a BBQ, all the dishes, a washer/dryer - it's a home away from home! It has everything you need so that you don't have to think about it, so you can have a carefree vacation. And, it's right there with the water on both sides! It's awesome!
You walk in, you have a great view! That was so nice. The sunsets were beautiful. It was close to everything. The house was very nice with tropical style furnishings. Great for two or four people. It was nice that there were beach chairs and beach towels to use. We really enjoyed our stay.
Wow! What a wonderful week we had at Drift Away!!!!!! As everyone else has stated in previous reviews, we instantly felt at home when we arrived. Great reading library (I didn't finish a book so I took it home with me and will be mailing it back to Bob!) and music selection. We did not turn on TV at all. The July heat through me for a loop the first few hours without AC, but then I got accustomed to the gentle breezes throughout the house and all was well. The Lasko brand pedestal fan they had was great- we could have used 1 more of those at night, just because it was July. We actually slept on the deck several nights under the stars. Not because it was too hot in the bedrooms, but because it was so wonderful outside! Bedrooms and bathrooms were great, and the kitchen was well equipped. Having the washer and dryer was a big lifesaver. We made sure to empty and refill the ice trays to supplement the ice maker in the freezer, and we never had to buy ice. We used the gas grill a lot. One suggestion for the bathrooms would be to have a no slip mat in both of the bathtubs. My 76 year old mother said she held onto the window sill while showering so she would not slip (I also found our tub a bit slippery). Here are a few suggestions for things to be sure to take with you or purchase at Maxwell's when you arrive:
* dishwashing liquid
* toilet paper
* paper towels
* laundry detergent
If I were to plan a trip to the Abacos again, I would 100% say that I would stay at Drift Away. Outstanding privacy, easy access to other islands by boat, snorkeling right off the beach- can't get any better than that! Thanks to Judy the housekeeper for the phone calls to check on us! Delmond the gardener was also delightful!
Thank you, Bob, for your lovely "home away from home", and sharing it with us. It was truly a memorable week.
We had the good fortune of spending 7 days at Driftaway. We had a wonderful and a most relaxing stay. The accommodations were excellent. The house provided a spacious and comfortable setting in which to relax. The view cannot be put into words; it is so fantastic! The covered front porch and outdoor eating area are wonderful. We enjoyed many meals on the front veranda with a magnificent view of the Sea of Abaco. We sat for many many hours talking, eating, reading, and drinking wine.... Very nice, relaxing vacation (I finished 2 books!). We felt very comfortable in the home, slept well in the beds and much enjoyed the decor. Driftaway exceeded our expectations. Yes, the pictures on line are beautiful...but they really don't do justice to the outstanding view of the Sea of Abaco. The view continued to amaze us each of the days we were there. The house is very well appointed and has everything you would need. We cooked quite a bit and found whatever we were looking for in the spacious kitchen. There was always plenty of seating for the four of us, whether eating, snacking, watching TV, or out on the front and/or back porch enjoying the view. The furniture was also very comfy and inviting. Our party used both bedrooms and both were quite comfortable. The bedrooms had plenty of storage to unpack and hang clothes in the closets or put into the dressers. The home is kept very clean and we found everything we needed in the kitchen. It was also a real plus to have a washer/dryer which enabled us to take fewer clothes.
We were especially impressed with the owners who 100% went the extra mile to make sure our stay was enjoyable. Bob and Linda were wonderful...from the very first email. They answered any questions we had and were very helpful and provided us with many recommendations on what to do during our visit. They have put together a very informative book with things to do on the island which we also found very helpful. They seem to have thought of everything.
Our hats off to Judy the housekeeper who checked in with us several times to make certain that we had everything we needed. She is a true gem.
The charm of this cottage will bring us back next year. We would definitely recommend Driftaway to anyone visiting the Abacos. Thank you very much Bob and Linda.
