This lovely cabin has everything you need to relax, enjoy Icelandic nature, and to have a good time with family and friends. The location is perfect as it is just 45.min away from Reykjavík city, close to the Golden Circle and Thingvellir, and it is also conveniently located about 15. minutes from Selfoss town where you can get all the nessasery service. There are lots of fun things to do and see in the area. The Cabin is surrounded by spectacular Icelandic nature and is on a really peaceful private land.
It has 4 spacious bedrooms, 2 located on the main floor and 2 on the second floor On the second floor the rooms have tv and dvd´s . The kitchen area is spacious and is open to the living room. The kitchen has all the kitchen tools that you might need. There is a nice, big couch in the living room where people can relax, read a book or watch TV / DVD.
The cabin has a washer and a dryer for your convenience and also a dishwasher.
The Cabin has a big patio around it with a nice table and chairs, a grill for the chef! and a hot tub for outdoor enjoyment. There are swings and outdoor toys in the yard for the children, and a trampoline! And a wonderful view;)
The Cabin was built 2009 and is perfect for all year around stay!
My name is Sandra and me and my husband own the cabin at Víðbrekka. We have 3.children from 4-10.years old.
When we bought the cabin it had been under construction but nothing had been done for some time. So when we got the cabin it was nothing in it but dirt and walls. So i can say candidly that the cabin is our work . We built it from inside so you can get to know us a little when you stay there ;)
In August 2015 we moved to Spain. We are so lucky that Ágústa my aunt is taking care of the cabin for us and you will be so lucky to meet her when you come to our cabin. We ask our guest to pick a good rental car, and in the winter it has to be a 4x4 car. Not just to drive to the cabin but just to drive in Iceland in the winter!
Sandra purchased this cabin in 2009
We love to stay at our lovely cabin as our family and friends! This is where we go to relax and enjoy. It´s a perfect place to stay all year around. The cabin stands in a hill that´s called Búrfell. There is a great view from the cabin but if you are coming in the winter we ask our guests to rent a good rental car, and in the winter you need a 4x4 car. Not just to drive to the cabin but also just in Iceland!! You never know how the weather will be but as we local say "If you don´t like the weather just wait a little" ;) When you stay at our cabin we surely hope you like your stay!
The view is wonderful any time of the year!
It´s a perfect place to be at in the south because it´s not far from Reykjavík, close to all service and fun things to do or see is all around the cabin.
Loved our stay. The cabin had everything and Sandra was so very helpful. Wonderful place to explore the south! Thank you Sandra for sharing this place!
We stayed at this property in a snowy February. When we arrived from the UK an picked up our hire car - the owner, Sandra met up with us. It was late and the road to the cabin had been closed due to bad weather. Sandra was brilliant and booked us into a nearby hotel for the night and supplied us with takeaway!
The next morning we drove to the cabin which sits on the end of a private road overlooking a fabulous view. The cabin itself is quite large especially with just the two of us.
We are usually hotel travellers, so not used to this kind of rental. Is this comparable to a hotel? Well, no not at all. The drawers have 'stuff' in, there are child's toys around, food in the cupboards and DVDs ready for a rainy day. It is a lived in family home, which can only enhance an experience of being in Iceland.
The property is located literally just off the Golden Circle so Þingvellir is just down the road, and the likes of Geysir and Gullfoss are within easy reach. If you fancy another day trip in the car you can go down the south coast past Vik and up to Jökulsárlón and see the glacier ice washed up on the beach.
I would defiantly recommend staying here. We hope to again soon! Sandra was amazingly helpful and gave us very useful advice on things to do.
She can't make the Aurora happen for you though, but fortunately we were treated to that as well one night - right over the cabin.
We had a fantastic week at this lovely summer house not far from Selfoss.
The cabin was excellent with a homely feel and good amenities. The setting is ideal in a quiet side road with great views from the large terrace at the front of the property. This looks out over the valley from which we could watch the local wildlife.
Everything in the house was clean and tidy and as described in the details with comfy beds and sofas, plus an excellent kitchen.
Sandra the owner was great, she answered all our questions leading up to our visit, and while we were there, she could not have been more helpful.
The location is central to the main attractions in the South of Iceland, and only about 15 min drive from Selfoss with its shops and services, and the junction with Route 1, the main road around the island.
There are excellent fish restaurants about 25 minutes away at Eyrarbakki and Stokkseyri on the coast, which we would highly recommend. In fact we ate out most of the time and had good food wherever we went. The fish and local lamb were the highlights.
I would recommend this cabin to anybody looking for a comfortable house central location. We had a great time and are looking forward to our next visit.

The property was fantastic, perfectly situated for our visit to Iceland. Are party was made up of 6 adults a 17, 13, 11 and 3 year olds. We had hired two cars from Thrifty ( best overseas car hire I have ever used and will only use them again ) we drove 2500 km while in Iceland and all of us had the most amazing time. The Westermann islands, beautiful, the pool was great as are all the swimming a pools in Iceland, also a gem of a restaurant called Gott, food and staff brilliant.
Blue lagoon just wow
Whale watching and sea fishing trips again well worth doing with very friendly staff.
Geyser was great to watch and a lovely walk.
The oldest parliament and the tectonic plates pulling apart was just totally different, the lovely walks together as a group so enjoyable.
Vik and the columns again beautiful and amazing.
The glacier lagoon was breath taking and to sit in out t-shirts next to it having a picnic was perfect.
And the waterfalls everywhere and all worth stopping and looking at, the power of nature....stunning
We all loved Iceland and the next morning after arriving back in the uk, we were already looking at booking to go again, the 22 hours of daylight was very strange so next time we are going in the winter for darkness and northern lights.
Thank you to Sandra for the fabulous property and making it so easy. I would defiantly say that Iceland has the wow factor and would recommend it as a place to go. Thank you Iceland I have had a truly amazing 40th birthday and also got engaged while in here, I will be back!!
The cabin is spacious and beautifully decorated. Sandra the owner met us when we arrived in Reykjavik and was very helpful and friendly. She gave us a warm welcome and lots of advice to help us see as much as we could, then she was at the end of the phone with what ever we needed to know during our stay. Iceland is an amazing country and this cabin is located close to many must-see's! The volcano crater at Kerid (just up the road) as are the breathtakingly beautiful Pingvellir/Thingvellir lake and national park...take a careful (as some gravel roads) drive around the lake it is stunning, Selfoss town with all amenities, historic beach towns with grass roofed houses and museums, lava flows, geothermal areas, even Gulfoss and Geysir are not too far away. Do not forget to look out for the Elves rocks as well just down the road...look for the 'doors' on the large boulders on the road sides!! Further afield but well worth the long drives are Vik with it's fabulous beach with basalt formations, cave, arch and stacks complete for us with a pod of whales just off the beach spouting water!! Also see the infamous E15 volcano, (volcanoes EVERYWHERE though), lava flows, waterfalls and the Vatnajokull glacier. The Reykjanes Peninsular is lovely with much to see too, we did this after a trip into Reykjavik, wonderful museums and harbor. The Icelandic people are lovely and speak very good English. The local lamb and fish are amazing (alcohol is very expensive.)We even saw the Northern Lights on 5 (!!) evenings from the cabin the first one was truly spectacular with 'rainbow waterfalls' and a 'crown'. The lack of light pollution where the cabin is located and the huge three sided deck really help with the lights 'spotting', the cabin is remote but only about 20 mins to Selfoss and all you could need. One needs a car but not a small one because of some of the roads and the quickly changing conditions! We were very lucky with the weather getting sun on all but the last days then we had snow storms! We did have VERY strong winds/gales everyday which dramatically lowers the temperature so wrap up warm! We loved the hot tub after long cold wind swept days out. The only things we would have wished for was a lock on the bathroom door (as had some embarrassing moments!!....as only one private shower and one loo) and a hand rail for the steep staircase for us older/clumsier ones!!Thank you so much Sandra for memories we will treasure. and we look forward to seeing you again soon.
Really great cabin! We stayed here during christmas and had just a wonderful time! The cabin looks just amazing and exactly like the pictures. The view was just amazing, one night we could even see the Northern Light from the living room! We really enjoyed our holiday here, and it was just great to come home after a long cold day and jump into the hot tub! The owner, Sandra, was really friendly and helped us with all our questions and we could always contact here if we had any more questions. Our holiday here was just perfect! We really hope to come back to this cabin some day!
Our lovely Cabin is perfectly located as a starting point for all the main attractions and sightseeing in South of Iceland. Þingvellir, Golden Circle and Kerið to name a few are only a few min. away.
Golf, Horse-riding, fishing, orgnic farm and warm swimmingpool with a slide are in the area. The town Selfoss is only a 10-15min drive. There you can find all the nessasery service. Behind the Cabin is mountain Búrfell. It has a wonderful view and is fun to go hiking and after the day just relax in the hot tub.
