Overview

Bearsville Estate Rental Photos and Description

3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, 6 people, Guest cottage for 2 people is optional

The Woodstock House is distinctive and gracious.

The Woodstock house is ideally located within walking distance to the Bear Café, Little Bear restaurant, Cub Market, and the Bearsville Theater. It is on a “cared for” 2.5 acres of land, set back from the main road, on a private lane leading to the house driveway where there is parking. Surrounded by woodland and a cultivated back yard, this country house is ideal, it is very private and only 2 miles to the Village Green, the center of Woodstock.

In the spring this unique house is covered with wisteria and in the fall burning red leaves cover huge Japanese maple trees in the yard, they are truly estate déjà vu. The house is 1800sq feet, just right for 6 people as well as 2 people. There are 3 bedrooms all with queen beds and two full bath rooms.

There is a gated white fence where guests enter the back of the property. At the house there is an entrance room where you can bring your things just before the kitchen. The kitchen has lots of country cabinets, a stove, large refrigerator, Bella coffee maker, toaster oven, microwave, Bella toaster, all the cookware and dinner service you will ever want. A glass table with chairs on one end of the kitchen is surrounded by a built in curved glass window that lets in light and air. Behind louver doors are some storage areas and a washer and dryer. Food can be easily taken outside from the kitchen to the stone patio table with chairs and umbrella. This is a good place to grill also.

From the kitchen through Dutch doors it opens into the dining area. There is a beautifully raised country ceiling defining the room and a long dining table that was a great gift from Gael Green a New Yorker food critic, it’s a perfect fit. There is also a large stone fireplace with corner benches, Modern wrought iron lighting hangs over the country table, six comfortable high backed chairs privately designed with an inspired dining room mural using matching colors. The large open floor plan allows a view from the dinning room to the living room.

There is a small sitting room before the downstairs full bathroom that has a tub, shower and plenty of towels. Near the bathroom are the bedrooms, they are private with queen beds and windows that open to the backyard. They also have flat screen TVs with lots of cedar lined closets.

There is a fun mix of the 60’s dominating the furnishings in the house, basically the ambience is eclectic. All rooms flow into the living room with wide pine planking flooring throughout the house. A huge hotel like wrought iron lighting fixture hangs from the 18 ft living room cathedral ceiling. Next to the collection cabinets the hour glass staircase leads to the upstairs bedroom. This acoustically designed room is a comfortable gathering place for all with a 64 inch flat screen TV that has cable with Netflix and a Bluetooth / dock stereo for your tunes. The sitting room has an opening to the living room and this is sometimes used as a serving window to pass food and drinks to people when there are parties.

On the wall that leads up to the second story master bedroom there is an original 8 ft. narrow mural painted with the colors of the living room. At the end of the hall is the bathroom, it is stocked with towels. The large light and airy master bedroom has lots of windows, is away from the rest of the house and is a private quiet get away. There is a large walk in closet, a flat screen TV with cable, and also a record player with a vintage record collection that you can take for a spin. Cheerful isn’t the word for it, it’s a place you could bring a cup of coffee from the kitchen and hang out.

COTTAGE

This property has a charming wonderful one large room cottage with lots of windows. Huge Rhododendrons hug the windows and are fantastically beautiful when in bloom the cottage sits back from the main house and is reached from the parking area following a stone path. The living area has comfortable furniture along with table and chairs near the kitchen area. A queen bed is in a back section of the room with narrow ceiling high windows above. Although small, the bathroom has a roomy size stall shower.

For an extra cost the cottage creates a convenient additional space if you need room for more people.

About Michael Young/ lienced realestate broker

I grew up in New Your City and Woodstock and went to Berkeley School of Music. As a record producer I worked with Ronnie Spector, Tracy Chapman, Bon Jovi as some of the artists and most major record labels. I moved back to Woodstock where I now live

Michael Young/ lienced realestate broker purchased this estate in 2003

Why Michael Young/ lienced realestate broker chose New York

I chose this house because of its structure and location. Its 2 1/2 acres of wooded land are wonderful and peaceful. There is something about the feeling the house gives me, the county fireplace with a cool look. There had been a lot of thought in the making of this house.

What makes this estate unique

The large maple trees in the fall are fire red, the the large tulip trees are clouds of light purple in the spring, the location....I ski so being 30 minutes from great skiing and and a few minutes from excellent dinning and a house that can fun or just low key.

A bit of Spring Cleaning Required

  • 2 of 5

This property is a nice space and it's a shame it is not maintained better. On first arrival, even with the windows already open the place had a very musty smell giving it an un-lived and dirty feeling. There was also hair in the upstairs bathroom which didn't add to the ambience and left an impression that the place could be better cleaned. It's the last thing one wants to find after a long drive. There was also quite a significant amount of spider webs in and outside the windows as well as inside the rooms which obviously have not been removed in quite some time. There was also a dead mouse (completely dried up) visible inside the air conditioner vent upstairs. We've rented and seen many different properties in Woodstock and while the house is a good size and nice space, the maintenance and cleanliness makes it not a good experience for the money.

Owner's Response: Alex called me and asked me for a one night weekend stay, I said I was sorry but it has been a 2 night minimum. He asked if I would do him a favor and after much conversation I said OK. He then wanted a late check out, after his story I said OK. I charge him for only one night. To answer this review I will start by saying the Woodstock House was cleaned by a cleaning service the day before check-in. All towels and linins were fresh and new. This is a house in the country with trees, Wisteria climbing up the walls of the house. There were a few days of rain before Alex check-in and hi humidity giving the house a damp smell. If a hair was found in the bathroom I’m sure it was over looked by the cleaning service. If the guest would have called, I would have had it cleaned. Yes there can be a spider web, they are made overnight and yes you could see an ant. I can't see how a mouse could get or want to get into a freestanding AC unite.

House needs some TLC

  • 2 of 5

The house is beautifully located off the main road and close to shops. The back yard is stunning and inviting.

The house is well equipped ( coffee makers, French press, hair dryer, toaster, microwave etc).

However, when we first walked in, the stagnant musky air almost sent me back home. Spider webs and dust everywhere.

There are no curtains on the upstairs bedroom ( so you will be up at 6 am in the summer) or AC. So the bedroom was hot and stuffy.

The refrigerator leaked water on a daily basis.

Overall is a nice house that needs some TLC

Owner's Response: When the guest arrived it had been raining for a few days, all that was needed is the windows to be opened for fresh country air. I don't know about spider webs everywhere, but I will let the house keeper know and to keep an eye on things. There are curtains in the upstairs bedroom however they are not a thick material. I'm sorry but don't understand, there is a large ac unit upstairs behind the door. Yes the frig does sweat a little in the summer.

Beautiful house in tranquil setting!!!

  • 4 of 5

This house is GREAT! Even without the a/cs on, it was nice and cool. And the owner is TERRIFIC! We had an issue with the phone and internet and he made sure to come over and fix it immediately...and even brought us a bottle of wine! It was a great place to stay for my husband, two young children, and me!

Great Location and Size

  • 4 of 5

This house is wonderful for a large party or people with kids. There is a large yard to play in and it is set back from the main road on a private driveway. We even had chipmunks and deer in the yard!! Great amenities with a full kitchen and washer/dryer on site. TV has full cable and Netflix. Interior decoration is superb: rural and comfortable at the same time. Very quiet/safe and walking distance to Bearsville Cafe and Cub Market. Woodstock town center is a very short drive away.

Excellent Woodstock Getaway

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at this Woodstock home was really very special! From the custom built cabinetry to the record player in the master bed room it is clear that a lot of care and thought has gone into this house. It was a very comfortable stay for three couples and our puppy, with a beautiful yard and great lounging space under the beautiful chandelier style lighting. This house is also a perfect location from Woodstock; just outside the hubbub but still very close to town and other great Woodstock sights and experiences (like the Bearsville Theater, the Bear Cafe and the Cub Market- all excellent!) It was really a pleasure to stay here and the house had just the right balance of unique artistry and comfort!
