I am an elementary school adminstrator and come to the Cape every vacation and as many weekends as possible; however, I invite you to share my home when I am not there myself and hope that you will enjoy it as much as I do!
Janet Smith purchased this house in 2007
My family bought our Cape home because we the love the area and want to live here someday. The home is close to Barnstable Harbor, Audubon Society Wildlife Sanctuary Sandy Neck beach, and Rt. 6A, and although close to Hyannis and all the amenities, it feels like we are far away from the hustle and bustle. Being close to the Audubon Society's Long Pasture Wildlife Sanctuary allows us a beautiful walk to the beach through the grass and meadow trails and also brings all the birds and their beauty right to our home.
The quaintness of Barnstable village and the bay side of the Cape offers 'Old Cape Cod' feel with everything from beaches to restaurants to shops to malls to whale watches, bike rides, long nature walks, to stress-relieving relaxation!
This lovely home offers a peaceful and private setting, yet is located ideally for exploring the Cape. Our family enjoyed walking to the beach at sunset, boogie-boarding in the waves of the Cape's beautiful beaches, taking in Cape Cod League baseball games, and cooling off with a swim after a long bike ride. The house is well-organized and thoughtfully equipped with everything you might need on vacation, and the owner's tips on restaurants, beaches and other local information were invaluable. For our family, this was the perfect spot for a great summer vacation! Alex A. of Chevy Chase, MD Vacationed August 2009
First off Janet was amazing. Her home is beautiful and located in a great place that is easily accessible to everything.
Janet was super accommodating and a pleasure to work with in renting her home. The cleaning lady she uses is equally as nice and accommodating. I highly recommend this property for your summer vacation down the cape!
A week of comfort and enjoyment! We were two couples with three kids ages 3, 4 and 5. We were never bored and neither were the kids even on a rainy day. The house is very spacious and has everything you need as if it was your own. Great indoor space for the kids to play and outdoor space for the kids along with games, toys, umbrellas and chairs for the beach. A great center location near everything you need and beautiful beaches close by. Our favorite beach was Chapin beach with the most beautiful clear water and the kids had a blast collecting hermit crabs. Janet was very accommodating and easy to reach with any questions or concerns. Our first Cape Cod experience was a wonderful and staying here was definitely part of the reason.
Our family thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Cummaquid (Barnstable). Janet's listing is right on - the house is as lovely as it appears in the photos, if not more so. The house has been recently renovated and it feels like a brand new home with outstanding accommodations. New appliances, good Wifi, an extra refrigerator in the garage, and plenty of storage; this enabled us to keep the house nice and neat, even though there were eight of us there most of the time. The children (4 ages 10 to 15) loved the outdoor shower and are begging their father to put one in when they get home!
From the Barnstable location we were able to explore other parts of Cape Cod within an hours drive. We drove to Nauset Beach one day, passing through some lovely small villages and towns. Locally we enjoyed the Barnstable beaches, and thanks to having a beach pass available, we were able to park at all the Barnstable beaches at no cost, a savings of $20.00 per visit.
I would highly recommend this house to large families, two families traveling together, or like us, two generations of a family gathering together for some summer fun. It really worked for us!
This house is beautiful with lots of room and good location. It's centrally located and an easy drive to many beautiful beaches. The house comes with many nice additions, including toys for the kids (my daughter loved discovering the toy box upstairs!), beach toys for bringing to the beach, and even outdoor toys for the kids to play in the yard. The sitting area in the garage is really nice and the outdoor shower was great. The house was bigger than we expected and the bedrooms were perfect for my daughter and her two cousins, while still having plenty of room for the adults. Thank you so much - we are hoping we can come back again next year!
This was our first trip to Cape Cod and we traveled from Texas with our two sons ages 15 and 11. I rank this as one of my favorite family vacations ever! Arrangements with Janet were wonderful. She is so friendly and genuinely excited to have you stay at her home.
We were in absolute awe of the beauty of the location of this home. Now having driven much of the Cape and having seen the other major towns (Hyannis, Chatham, Falmouth etc), I'm so glad we found and chose this home and Barnstable. The home is right off of 6A, which is one on the most beautiful drives you will find. The trees are landscaping everywhere is spectacular. This home is just a couple of minutes away from the harbor and we made great memories here! Our first day we took the whale watching excursion from Hyannis whale tours. I think we many have had some extra luck, but the day we went out, we saw over 35 different whales up close. Really close. It was spectacular!!
The next night we came back to the harbor to the restaurant Osterville and picked out our lobster to boil back at the house (more on that to follow). The next day we took a fishing charter on the Aquarius out of the same harbor. Unbelievable day. Great captain and deck hand. We caught many striper and brought home four large fillets for dinner that night. There are great restaurants nearby and a grocery store just minutes away. You are close to everything, but feel as if you are away from it all in a New England paradise.
The house is perfect for a family. It has everything you need to spread out and be comfortable. My favorite memories from this trip are cooking back at the house(I can't believe I just said that!) and enjoying the backyard. Janet has everything you need to make it feel like home. My 11 year old set up a croquet course within minutes of arrival and we laughed and had the best time playing every night. The upstairs is so ideal for families! There is a poker/game table and we had an ongoing poker tourney that we continued in the evenings throughout our stay. The house is extremely clean and has everything you would ever need. The outdoor space is filled with beach gear and outdoor games. Janet leaves you a beach pass with a guide to all the local beaches and she has a basket of things to do and a drawer filled with many local restaurant menus.
This was a wonderful home and I'm so grateful that we stayed here and had this family memory. You will be as well!
We had a wonderful time in Janet's rental home. The house is large and spacious and filled with things to interest every member of the family. It comfortably fit our family of 2 parents, 2 kids and 2 grandparents. Due to mobility issues, the main floor master suite was much appreciated. The beach pass, beach gear and outdoor shower were especially useful. Janet, the owner, was very accessible and responsive to all of my questions. The house is situated in a very tranquil area, but is close, by car, to beaches, malls, markets and various tourist attractions. We liked the relative privacy of Bone Hill Beach and the very warm, but crowded, waters of Craigville Beach. We also enjoyed our day trips to Boston and Provincetown.
