This 2 bedroom cottage is located directly on Back Sound on beautiful Harkers Island. It has all the amenities of home and is decorated to reflect local traditions of working the water and the enjoyment of waterfowl. The location is very quiet and provides views of the Cape Lookout National Seashore and spectacular sunsets. Spend your days relaxing on the screened in porch, fishing from the dock, out in your boat or shelling on the banks.
The cottage is within walking distance of a ferry service to both the Cape Lookout Lighthouse and Shackleford Banks, where wild horses roam on miles of undisturbed beaches. Also nearby are grocery stores, gift shops, seafood restaurants and the Core Sound Waterfowl Museum. The island is well known for fishing and boating. There is boat parking at the cottage, a marina within walking distance and a public boat ramp close by.
Harkers Island is a short drive to Historic Beaufort and the North Carolina Maritime Museum. Come and enjoy our rich heritage of living, loving and working the water!
My two sisters , a niece and I had a great time while visiting family and friends during our stay.
The cottage was within walking distance to many of our childhood memories.
The visits from Mr. Sam Willis(scallop house)....with his stories of the past were a unexpected but great addition to our stay.
I recommend this cottage 110%!
The cottage is a no-frills place to relax and enjoy all the surrounding areas to explore - the view from the windows is mesmerizing - looking out at the bay was a favorite past-time! The people on the island are really friendly and welcome "outsiders" - different from some of the other islands I've visited, like Tilghman's...the water definitely lives up to its name, crystal clear and emerald! Swimming was awesome!
First time to this Island. Lived in NC all our lives. Cannot believe i have been missing out on this beautiful place. Great cottage. Very quiet and peaceful. Our pets were in heaven. If you come here, you must take a ferry ride to the lighthouse and Shackleford Banks. Beautiful! And the museum was a great experience. We will be back!
Comfortable cottage with sweet view across the sound to the lighthouse and Shackleford Banks.
New stove and refrigerator. Eclectic mix of cooking and eating utensils. But why bother cooking with the Fish Hook Grill a few doors down. Best fried oysters we've ever had, crab cakes that are mostly crab and Ms. Faye's out-of-this-world potato salad.
Private pier for fishing or tying up your boat. Ladder at the end of the pier for swimmers. Sound water much warmer than ocean water in May. Covered picnic tables and outdoor sink to clean your catch or wash shells. Outdoor shower. Rocky shoreline in front of cottage, lined with shells to sort through.
Cape Pointe Marina ferry took us across the sound to the lighthouse and along the shoreline to get a closer look at the wild horses. Saw a pod of dolphins playing along the way. Good guys. Great time.
Great place for a getaway. Michele was double easy to work with. Highly recommend.
My wife and 2 dogs had a very relaxing wonderful time at Michelle's home! We enjoyed the view, and sound of the ocen and birds all 4 nights! It was near a full moon. If you want to get away from commercialism this is it! We had a sunrise service on the beach for Easter! We ate lots of good seafood from nearby restaurants. We shopped in nearby Beaufort, took a ferry with our 4 wheel drive vehicle to the Cape Lookout Island. This was exactly what we were looking for at an incredible price! We would return real soon but it is booked out for the season and we can understand why! If you can get a reservation, get it! Thank you very much Michelle! We even got to enjoy a bonfire!!!
This is the second year my family and I have stayed at this house. We have taken our 2 young children and dog each visit. It's perfect with the private pier for fishing and beach area for the kids and dog to enjoy playing. The house is decorated true to Harkers Island culture and is equipped with everything you need for your stay. The view of Cape Lookout is beautiful from the back porch. The laid back atmosphere is a breath of fresh air and we can't wait to go back again next year!
