We has a wonderful time. The house was perfect, clean, and had great views of the lake from the windows. The place was private and we watched the Kineo shuttle make trips across the lake and back many times a day. We saw the Katahdin steamship from the outside deck. Saw moose and foxes in the area, and there were resident ducks that came up on deck. Our 2 corgis loved it there. They had to walk out on the dock everyday to check out the water. The owner was very helpful, kind, and answered many questions. In one word "Spectacular!"
We has a wonderful time. The house was perfect, clean, and had great views of the lake from the windows. The Camp and Dock Kept us Busy We thank you for sharing your Camp with my Family and Hope to Book again next year, We kayaked and Hiked and visited every aspect that Moosehead lake had to offer. Brought me back to when my family camped on Moosehead Two weeks every year growing up.
The positives were significant: world-class view, well-equipped kitchen, comfortable beds, immediate access to this magnificent lake, great hiking options in the area. However, I would be remiss to not mention some issues. The property is pretty 'tired': stained rugs, worn furniture, outside is in clear need of paint, inside is cluttered - leaving it feeling like we were living in someone else's home (we were assured by the gent who does the care-taking that the cottage is solely a rental). A couple other strange things happened that colored the experience: the place was dirty upon arrival (with garbage piled at the entry to the home), unfinished laundry filled the washer and drier, the back door was open, etc. These issues appear to have been an anomaly and Holly was immediately responsive, very apologetic, explaining there was a miscommunication with the person who cleans. Holly made an adjustment to the rental cost as a result. A much-appreciated response. We were, however, unable to get a response for several days to one more issue: the lock to the place became broken during our stay, so we then had to enter via a window (one time) and, for the rest of our stay, left the place unlocked while we were on trips. Sooo....thus the mixed review.
We had a great time! The house, grounds, bunkhouse, dock were all great. We loved the dock and the beautiful view of Mt. Kineo! The owner was very responsive when we called about an issue. Very relaxing just sitting and reading on the deck. We canoed, kayaked, hiked up Mt. Kineo, hiked Moxie Falls, and visited Pittston Farm. Saw lots of moose, a bear, beavers, eagles, deer, hawks, and hummingbirds. Lovely place to stay!
Our family stayed at this beautiful property for 8 days and it was perfect. It is close to the boat launch and has a wonderful dock for for the boat, a good mooring, and a good swimming for our grandkids. The camp was perfect: well equipped kitchen, deck, large living room, and a bunk house for a quiet nap. The washer and dryer were so convenient for drying beach towels. We were close to Kineo and enjoyed the hike to the top on a beautiful day as well as many boat rides up Moose River. The living room was large enough for an evening movie night with the whole family and there was plenty of room for our families vehicles and our boat trailer. The log cabin Rockwood church is within walking distance and is a must see. The owner was a pleasure to deal with.
The concept of a summer rental was new to our families, however, this private Rockwood site was perfect. There was plenty of room for our 3 families. The dock was amazing, great for the kids to jump and swim. There was a nice cove were the kids spent ours exploring. The views of Kineo are indeed spectacular and it is just a short boat ride over to the mountain, where we enjoyed a morning hike. Minor issues were promptly attended to by the owners, they are very nice people. This is a relaxing, beautiful spot to spend a week!
Enjoy relaxing, lake front privacy, on the deck looking out at the rock cliffs of Kineo and distant view of the top of Mt Katadin. Swim off the dock or shoreline. Boat/shuttle or kayak over to Kineo to enjoy hiking to fire tower with 350 degree veiws, beaching and golf. Drive into the North woods to historic Pittson Farms. Experience boating or driving to several Maine camps for great food; Mayners & Birches into Greenville. White water raft the Kennebec Rivers, Forks and Penobscot Rivers. The best hiking expereinces around. Enjoy causal shopping and dinning in Greenville and Jackman. Travel into Canada for the day to enjoy French food and charm.
