About Merrie

Our names are Darrel & Merrie, we met in Williams & have been married 43 years. We have 2 grown children and 5 grandchildren. Merrie grew up in the area, and has always called it 'home', she loves the mountains, pines and the quiet pace of the location.

Merrie purchased this house in 2007

Why Merrie chose Grand Canyon

We purchased the land in 2002 and dreamed of the day we would see our cabin there on the property. We drew the plans and sub-contracted the construction beginning in 2005, the home was, for the most part, completed in 2007. We have enjoyed the process, and have been doing some finishing touches since then. We are confident you will enjoy the property, and make many happy memories there.

What makes this house unique

There is a peacefulness you'll feel when staying at our home, and the proximity to the Grand Canyon, Williams, Bearizona, The Grand Canyon Railway, Flagstaff and Sedona makes our home perfect for daily outings taking in all the sites. We enjoy taking the family to the cabin to enjoy the cool weather in summer. The smell of the pines, relaxing around the fire pit and taking walks in the forest, along with the occasional sightings of the deer, elk and antelope in the area are a welcome change of pace. The Kaibab squirrels that live in the neighborhood enjoy the handouts and are very entertaining. Winters are beautiful with the fresh snow, sledding and holidays in front of the fireplace with the scent of cedar wood, freshly baked cookies, coffee and hot chocolate. Christmas in Williams is a sight to see, with the lighting of the huge Christmas tree, and boarding the Polar Express is a joy for the kiddies, young and old. Bearizona Wildlife Park and The Deer Farm are a must see, near Williams, only a few miles away. (Sorry, we do not host pets in consideration of those with allergies)

Guestbook comments from the owner

What a gorgeous Getaway. I definitely recommend this lovely chalet for your next trip to the Grand Canyon or the Flagstaff area. A cozy home in either winter or summer. We found it to have a lovely well-stocked kitchen...perfect for our family getaway. The living & dining areas are very spacious and our group of 8 was easily accommodated. Thanks for a lovely time....we'll definitely be returning.

Beautiful retreat

A perfect way to pump the breaks from the fast pace life can take. All amenities you might typically forget were stocked which made for a care free experience! Beautiful property.

amazing place, little improvements needed

  • 4 of 5

Together with some friends we stayed there for 3 nights.

The house itselfe is amazing. You have to have a good time at the big living room with the fireplace. Everything was clean and there is enough space for 5 guys.

Marrie gave us a nice call and asked if we arrived well.

Unfortunately I can't give 5 stars, there are some little things, thart need to be done.

During our stay we had some snow falling (about 3 feet during 2 nights) quiet nice until we had to fight us through 70 feet of snow, back to the street. That moment we realised there was no shovel anywere. Fortunately we could rent one from a neigbour.

Second improvement that needs to be done ist the fireplace. The smoke pulls out verry verry bad. Even with opend windows you can watch the smoke coming out of the fire place. Two beds are above the fireplace and it was impossible to stay there at night, as all the smoke stood in the air.

Never the less we had a great stay, and we hope to come back again.

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking a few moments to share your experiences at our home, it is unfortunate that there was a huge snow storm during your stay. I do have a snow shovel on the front porch next to the woodbox, I'm sorry you were unable to find it. I called and spoke to you about the snow situation in the driveway, and advised to drive your vehicle in and out a few times during the storm to keep a clear path to the street. There are clear instructions both in my rental agreement and in my welcome email regarding the fireplace being finicky and smoking if they are not followed. Opening the damper is crucial, otherwise, the smoke has no way to exit the fireplace via the chimney. I apologize for the inconvenience, but am glad to hear you would come back and stay again.

Great retreat in the woods!

  • 5 of 5

Rented this cabin getaway in the woods when we came to Williams to do the Polar Express over this last Christmas. What a great find! It was a little ways away from town, but well worth it, and we loved staying here. My little girl loved exploring the cabin, and my and hubby loved having a real wood burning fireplace! The beds were pretty comfortable, and the kitchen was very well equipped. We hadn't planned on making many meals here, but ended up doing so the first night since we didn't feel like driving back into town (rough start with a flat tire in the Grand Canyon!). If needed, there is a Safeway grocery store in town.

As noted by another reviewer, you can hear the train going by during the night. I heard it the first night but only because my little girl wasn't going to sleep right away. Second night, I don't remember it going by, but I'm sure it did.

If you're looking for a getaway from it all type of place, this is it! Great location, near enough to town if you don't want to cook or sightsee Williams or the Grand Canyon, but far enough away from traffic (people and cars). Would highly recommend this place. And we're thinking of coming back here next Christmas to stay and do the Polar Express again!

Excellent

  • 5 of 5

Just got back from a 4 night stay. The house exceeded our expectations. Merrie, the owner, was very responsive to pre trip questions. Had 4 adults and 2 kids and we had plenty of room. Did not need sofa bed. Modern and beautiful place. There is a train that runs quite often a few miles away so if you are a light sleeper bring ear plugs. Still slept great but did hear it. Microwave was hard to use but overall, for the money, I would highly recommend this place and I would stay hear again. 1st time to Williams for us. Snowbowl ski area was great as was Deer Farm and Bearizona nearby. Great for kids. Had snow on ground and whole family had a great time and was a great trip!!! Thanks Merrie!!
