Marsh Gayz is a private river front home on the Folly River with a deep water dock tucked away on Tabby Island, a secluded waterfront neighborhood of Folly Beach, South Carolina. Surrounded by age old live oaks, saltmarsh meadows and the wide waters of the Folly River, this beautiful home features spectacular private views of the Low Country at its finest. Although sequestered away from the main beach drag, it’s still only a short stroll to the beach and the famed surfer’s paradise known as the “Washout.” The quaint commercial district of Center Street and Folly Landing, with its many restaurants, shops, night clubs and parks, is also just a short bicycle, drive or boat ride away. You can easily launch your boat at the landing and dock in your own backyard during your stay 24/7. Historic downtown Charleston, SC is a scenic 15-20 minute hop over the island connector that characterize this part of the East Coast.

Unlike many coastal homes, only four steps up takes you to the haven within. This single story dwelling sleeps (8) people with three bedrooms and 3 full baths (one with a deep Jacuzzi tub). The roomy master suite has a sweeping view of the river via glass sliders that open onto the wide back deck. A spacious great room with beautiful Morris Island brick gas fireplace, gaming table and separate walk-in bar embraces even more stunning views of the river. The large well-equipped kitchen comes complete with an island, dishwasher, microwave, multiple tools for the culinary inclined and a large dining table for seating 8 or more. A small study/shell room can be found off the main entryway, and there is also full laundry facility and a large newly freshened up garage fully stocked with all the beach or fishing gear you need. This home contains all the amenities including wireless high speed Internet, Cable TV, 52” flat screen TV, DVD player, sound dock for I Pods, ceiling fans, and central heating and air conditioning (brand new system installing April 2016).

Although the house is a sanctuary in itself, it’s really all about the great outdoors. A spacious sundeck spans the entire back of the house and leads you across the lawn to a short railed dock ending at the river. The dock facility has both floating and stationary platforms, and is complete with a shaded area and bench seats, fish cleaning station with sink, water and power. There is also a paved patio area in the back yard that is perfect for oyster roasts, shrimp or crab boils and other seafood affairs with a stainless table, sink with running water and portable cooker and pots, shell barrels and a customized fire pit made special for Marsh Gayz for adding a little late night ambiance or roasting marshmallows.

Marsh Gayz is an ideal getaway for families or friends who have an interest in all of the watersports delights that the river world offers, while fish, crabs, clams and oysters can be caught or found right out the back door! With amazing sunsets to the west, the statuesque Morris Island Lighthouse to the east and miles of river and marsh in between, one could not want more for a perfect summertime setting. Marsha Pardee, M.Sc. is a marine ecologist who works as an independent consultant specializing in environmental management, eco-tourism and many other conservation related projects and programs. Although raised on Folly, she lives in the Turks and Caicos Islands and works throughout the Caribbean region, but enjoys coming back 'home' for the holidays and especially for shrimp season in the Fall.

I was raised on Folly Beach, moving into this house as a young child. I have a love for all things in the water so being raised on the water only grew my passion for my profession.

What makes this house unique

You can see historical Morris Island Lighthouse from the dock in the distance but it is a short ride to go see it and park then walk 1/4 mile to the beach. While you can enjoy kayaking on the water, you can also walk a few steps to get to the beach or bicycle to Center Street. Folly have a great fishing pier Edwin S. Taylor managed by the County Park System. There is dining and a ship store too. This property is managed by Property Manager extraordinaire, Natalie Staropoli.

It was an awesome resort home for our 8 night stay. We rented 4 other homes on Folly for our large family however, Marsh Gayz screamed serenity and the neighbors were so very friendly!

A little slice of Heaven on Earth

There simply are not enough good words to aptly describe the beauty and atmosphere that surrounds Marsh Gayz. From the moment that we stepped out of the car and met Natalie, we felt completely at home. The home has literally everything you could even imagine needing while on vacation. The amenities....kayaks, bikes, beach chairs, crab pots, towels, sunscreen....are just a few of the wonderful things that are supplied for the renters enjoyment. We would start our day with an early morning walk on the beach with our yellow lab. Coffee and breakfast were enjoyed on the patio. Afternoons were spent kayaking, bike riding, fishing, swimming, or just sitting and taking in the sweet smells of the marsh and summer breezes. The Dolphins put on quite a show each day as well!!! We thoroughly enjoyed this very relaxing home and will definitely be back in the near future. We rent on Folly at least 5-6 times a year and this by far was the most enjoyable, relaxing, and beautiful place we have ever stayed. Thank you for sharing this little slice of Heaven on Earth with us!

Wow, what a wonderful vacation we had in "Marsh Gayz". We have never felt so "at home" in a vacation rental as this one. Beautiful views, cozy, spacious and fully equipped with everything that we needed. My sister and I enjoyed all the different sea shells displayed throughout the house and the boys really enjoyed the kayaks and fishing off the dock (although it was much too hot for fish to bite). I would highly recommend this rental. Thanks Natalie for being so accommodating and we enjoyed our meal at the Roadside Seafood restaurant that you mentioned to us.

The beautiful collections of shells throughout the home are by no other than our "mermaid" Marsha who found such beauties throughout her travels as a Marine Biologist. They are true treasures with lots of memories and stories behind them. Along the docks where we are situated is one of the best fishing spots we learned as we see a lot of Captains bring their guests by for a winning catch. Perhaps next time we can offer some pointers as was shared with us to ensure a successful catch. So glad the restaurant recommendation worked out. Hope to see you all again.

Amazing Get-Away

My family and I had the most enjoyable time at this magnificent property! Thanks to property manager, Natalie, for being so accommodating! We would highly recommend it. We loved the fact that kayaks and bikes were available for our use. This was a BIG plus for us! The home was very inviting, warm, and clean. Thank you for the memories, and we plan to be back again next summer!

Beautiful Haven

Marsh Gayz was a spectacular place for our stay. We love a place with beautiful views, and this provided the best we've ever seen at Folly. With the deep water just steps from the door and the beach a very short walk away, we never ran short of things to enjoy. The home is clean, spacious and comfortably furnished, from beach towels and kitchen essentials to kayaks. We didn't want to leave! Natalie, the manager, was friendly, accessible and accommodating. We'll definitely look to book here again.

Best family rental ever!

I wish we could have stayed an entire weeK!! Maybe next year we felt like a true home away from home. We walked to the beach everyday after breakfest & fished all afternoon on the dock before dinner.

Great Place! Highly recommend it.

Liked the house, but thought it was over-priced. Would have liked to stay for a week but that is too expensive.

Also, we didn't receive our full security deposit back because of a credit card processing fee which was a significant amount.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your comment and for choosing to stay with us for your 3 day wedding weekend with 2 other couples. We're so glad we were able to accommodate you with a much earlier check in and late check out in addition to accommodating you and your wedding party guests for your rehearsal dinner at our home with no extra event fees since we decided to stop events at our home after last year due to many factors. While we feel our rates our in keeping with Folly rentals, please understand only a 3 day weekend stay rate is naturally higher because you are taking the most desirable days . In addition, your stay fell between 2 seasonal rates. Had you mentioned it and wished to stay a full week, as young newlyweds, we would have been more than happy to work with you. Your weekly rate would have fallen in the lesser rate of $2400/week, divided by 3 couples is less than $1000/week and approx. $139/day per couple. You get way more bang for your buck than you do in a hotel room or the Inn that hosted your wedding. As for the credit card transaction fees, per the initial email and in our conversation, we are very clear there are NO fee methods to pay your deposit and balance and we give you every opportunity and reminder regarding the same however, when you choose to use a credit card, that payment is processed through HomeAway/VRBO third party processor Vacation Rents and they are the ones charging the fee and deducting it before it is sent to us, hence our payment is short by that fee. Because we offer several no fee options, the 2.5% fees for using a credit card are deducted from your security deposit as stated in all our correspondence. PayPal if not linked to a bank account charges 2.9% for credit card fees. In your case, your deduction was ($58.61). Marsh Gayz is a beautiful home on deep water on the Folly River with a gorgeous private view with kayaks, bicycles, fishing rods crab pots, gas cooker, fire pit, outdoor sinks, fish cleaning station, cornhole, bocci ball, all things needed for the beach (beach towels, beach chairs, even suntan lotion). In addition, every bathroom is equipped with shampoo/conditioner, body wash and you have a full kitchen to prepare foods or store foods, unlike any hotel room that only offers a bed. We regret you felt our home is only a 3 star value however, with more than 80+ guests offering 5 stars, we value all our guests and all their comments and opinions. Good Luck to you as you embark on a beautiful life together.

We can accommodate special events/weddings (event fee applies) and have all the referral resources needed to make it special. In 2014, we added French doors to the Great room, re-tiled the back foyer and back bathroom, replaced the roof with new architectural shingles and enhanced our lower 'Party Pit” by adding a sink and cabinet for storage and easy clean-up for oyster roasts, Lowcountry boils, etc....
