About the property

3 bedrooms , 1 full & 1 3/4 bath, sleeps 6

As beautiful and peaceful on the outside as it is on the inside. You and your guests will enjoy your stay in this new, year round, lakeside home completed in 2012. Situated just steps away from the quiet western shore on the southern end of the historic island sanctuary of Isle La Motte, you’ll enjoy spectacular sunsets over Lake Champlain and the Adirondack Mountains right from your own screened-in porch. Built by a local craftsman, the cottage features decorative woodwork, charming furnishings and attention to detail that is evident in every aspect of this island getaway. The bicycles and kayaks for guests will provide amble opportunities to enjoy your outside time.

Isle la Motte is perfect for bike riding and exploration, which will surely include a walk to the Historic Fisk Farm for Sunday afternoon Tea. Each week in July and August, features musical entertainment and art exhibits on the lawn and in their historic horse and carriage barn. Every visit to the island should include a visit to the Fisk Quarry Preserve, a 20 acre site which contains rich wetland habitat for birds and animals as well as home to the 450 million year-old Chazy Fossil Reef . Be sure to also visit St Anne’s Shrine on the northern point of the island, the site of the island’s first French settlement in 1666, which included a fort and chapel.

The Little House is a wonderful property in a beautiful setting with wonderful sunsets on the lake.

Alex was a wonderful host who greeted us upon arrival and gave us an overview of everything which matched the description perfectly. The house is immaculate and the furnishings are top notch. We discussed returning to experience a winter on the lake! The grill is amazing. The kayaking was awesome. If you are looking for a secluded getaway on Lake Champlain, look no further. It was an easy trip into Burlington, Montreal and NY state with Lake Placid nearby. All in all, a wonderful week in Vermont!

Ahhh, great little vacation

  • 5 of 5

We had a fabulous week at Isle la Motte. The house was perfect and the owner was very easy to work with. The house is cozy and immaculately clean, well built and well appointed. We loved having bikes and kayaks. Come prepared to relax and do nothing because there isn't a lot to do here. But that's a big part of the charm of this special corner of Vermont. Just a great great vacation!

Perfection and peace

  • 5 of 5

We had an amazing week at Little House on Isle La Motte! The house exceeded our expectations. It was immaculate, and modern, completely as described and the pictures suggested. We really appreciated the kayaks, canoe, bikes, even corn hole because that meant we didn't need to bring anything but our clothes and groceries for our week stay. The island is quiet, the lake is beautiful and clean and so clear. It was nice and cool in the morning. Temps were perfect for biking and my husband was able to get some nice long runs in without worrying about heat or humidity. We loved biking to the South End Cafe for a great lunch and pastries, the Fisk Farm on Sunday for music, tea in the garden and an arts and craft show. Our two teenaged daughters were also able to enjoy the peace and quiet (and stay connected with all their friends back home with the wifi). We'll definitely be back!

A wonderful retreat

  • 5 of 5

We (four adults, one child) loved Little House. The place is meticulously clean, well-organized with all the necessary amenities inside (pots, pans, local resources, etc.) and out (croquet, chairs, boats, etc.).

The water access is lovely...a sturdy deck with chairs perched a bit above a long dock. As you may be able to tell from the pictures, the lake is across a road...but it is a quiet dirt/cinder road and was not at all an impediment. The water at the end of the dock was perhaps about 3.5-4 feet deep (reportedly lower than usual for early July) so no diving, but there is ladder access both at the end of the dock and to a rocky beach if you prefer to wade in slowly. The water was crystal clear and refreshing. Water shoes are a MUST, as is true in most settings at Lake Champlain.

Three of our party were avid bikers and found plenty of local routes. There are also bikes on site for more casual riders.

The screened in porch is generously sized and welcoming...a great place to have a morning coffee, watch the sunset, or have an evening cocktail...or all three!

The bedrooms are arranged such that downstairs is a master suite with a king size bed (premium sheets and bedding, very nice) and bathroom (shower). This bedroom is separated from the main living area by a slightly strange telescoping set of doors that took a bit of getting used to and didn't always stay shut. Nevertheless, the room was cool and comfortable.

Upstairs are two more bedrooms, one a queen size bed and one with two twins, along with another bathroom / shower. These rooms are smaller, but functional and well-appointed.

Good thought was given to needs for linens, towels (for both beach and bath) and basic supplies, as well as a sweet gift of Vermont coffee.

The owner met us at the property for check in and check out, and lives nearby (but does not drop in or anything like that!) Pre-arrival communications with the owner were easy and informative.

We enjoyed the local old-school Ruthcliffe Lodge (5 minutes away) that serves solid food. Ask for a table outside...the inner dining room is a bit gloomy / panelled. Also, strangely, the restaurant is found at the end of a trailer park...but the food was good.

We also revisited our old standby from previous trips to the Island, the North Hero House (20-25 minutes away).

We may well rent here again -- it was a lovely spot!

Perfect in every way!

  • 5 of 5

The listing description of Little House, the photos, and the prompt, informative and friendly responses to our inquiries prior to our arrival raised our expectations and excitement about visiting Isle La Motte for the first time. We were not disappointed. In fact, our magical experience far exceeded our expectations. Alex and David are absolutely lovely, and their Little House is truly an immaculate, well-appointed, beautifully designed gem. We were four adults, and our accommodations provided us with both privacy and comfort. Every possible amenity was present including top quality mattresses, linens, dinnerware, artwork, and a Vermont Casting outdoor grill which my husband is still raving about! The location is beyond belief. We couldn't take our eyes off the beautiful lake and mountain views, right outside our window....and just a few steps away. My husband caught his biggest bass of the season from their provided rowboat! We rode our bikes almost daily to St. Anne's shrine, and I miss that destination still. Alex's recommendations for shopping and dining were spot on. Burlington was lovely, the Shelburne Museum unforgettable, Ruth Cliff for dinner out was extraordinary, and the Market in North Hero for fresh meats, vegetables, and baked goods was so convenient. We can't wait to return, and we would recommend Isle La Motte and the beautiful Little House to all!
