What makes this house unique

Rum Point boasts a 5 story crow’s nest with breathtaking views of the Gulf of Mexico, Pine Island Sound and at least a dozen of the surrounding islands. It’s a great place to gather for morning coffee while planning the day or for watching a sunset or stargazing. The screened deck on the kitchen level has ceiling fans and makes an excellent place for an afternoon card game. The screened deck on the bedroom level is complete with hammock and the most comfortable porch swing you’ll ever sit in. Rum Point sits on a secluded double lot surrounded by tall trees. The private pool is lighted and heated and has a very large pool deck surrounding it with plenty of seating and lounge chairs for the whole gang.

Guestbook comments from the manager

Spent week in early July at Rum Point with 5 adults and 8 teens. House was awesome, clean and well maintained, and island was very quiet and relaxing. Not a lot to do on island which was fine with adults, but feared teens would be climbing the walls by midweek. Just the opposite, they were loving the place and asking to come for two weeks next summer. One of the most unusual and enjoyable family vacations I have ever been on. Only complaint was getting groceries. It was not difficult but very $$$. The general store at the resort was downright laughable and the delivery service was not cheap. They overcharged me around $50 for delivery of our initial order, and I have called twice to get the situation resolved to no avail.

Can't say enough good things about Sarah Rapp and the Miklovcic's, the owners. All were extremely helpful, honest and hospitable. Without reservation, I highly recommend spending a week or two at Rum Point, just make sure you plan ahead and bring plenty of groceries.

PERFECT vacation home for 1-2 families!

  • 5 of 5

Our first visit to N Captiva will not be our last - and we hope to stay in Rum Point for years to come! Our group consisted of 2 families (5 adults and 6 kids) and the house fit us perfectly. The bedrooms are comfortable, the house is well-stocked, the service was impeccable (we love Tom!), and the outdoor space (decks, porches, pool, sunset rooftop deck) are exactly what you hope to find in tropical paradise. The kids LOVED the pool, pool table, the bunk bed room, and the stash of games in the TV cabinet! The new golf carts were fun to scoot around the island, and having 3 carts was quite helpful. Thank you for sharing your wonderful home!!

Spacious, warm, friendly and inviting.

  • 5 of 5

With all of the comforts of home in the land of paradise. We could hear the waves from our windows opened to the sea breezes. Plus, the wild life (including an abundance of osprey and dolphin) was teaming inspiring us with awe and wonder. So great we want to share the adventure and so great want to keep it a secret.

Great house, everything we expected

  • 5 of 5

Only issue was our need for third golf cart and for trash pickup. Both these details were immediately resolved when brought up to Tom the property manager. Our party of ten included 3 high school seniors, 2 college kids and one college grad. A good time was had by all and no complaints of being "bored". Loved the island.

Great House. Nice carts, kitchen and pool area.

  • 5 of 5

We loved Rum Point. The decks on all sides and levels of the house were great and relaxing. Plenty of room for our family of 9. The two carts were very nice and great to have with that many people. The pool area was very nice as well. Kitchen and family room was a very open and welcoming area of the house. We would certainly recommend it.

Owner's Response: Thanks for sharing Mr. Baker, we love to hear that guests had a great time, and all future guests appreciate good, honest reviews. You are not alone in the love of all the decks and the crows nest, they are great gathering places to enjoy each other's company and the outdoors at the same time. We are constantly trying to make your next experience better. Next time you visit you might be surprised to see what's new. The golf carts you enjoyed are new (I think you were the first guests to use the new carts) replacements for the very tired carts we have taken out of service. They are a great way to explore the island without straying too far from relaxation mode. Rum Point is a place for families - we have taken care to make sure there is something for everyone and plenty of space for everyone to find their own favorite spot. Enjoy the pool, nap in the hammock, play a game of pool, go for a walk or try to catch the big one - whatever you choose, you can't help but unwind. Until your next visit, may you have safe travels and sunny skies.

Wonderful 50th Birthday week.

  • 5 of 5

3 generations of our family spent a fabulous week at Rum Point for my 50th birthday in August. The age range was 7 through 78 and everyone had a great time! The house is beautifully decorated with plenty of space for all ages. The teenagers hung out downstairs around the pool and pool table while us old folks stayed close to the kitchen and bar upstairs.

The house is fully stocked with plenty of linens and the kitchen is well appointed too. New built- in bunk beds in the upstairs guest room adds bed space for extra guests. The kids loved them. We had a few rainy days, but there were puzzles and the pool table to keep the kids occupied.

Having grown up in Florida, I have vacationed all over the state. North Captiva is really different than any other place. Natures beauty at its best. We enjoyed exploring the island on golf carts. The beach at the south end was better than the one right near Rum point for us. Our dogs enjoyed chasing the seagulls while we relaxed on the beach. It was a short golf cart ride and a little adventure .

We rented a boat for the week so we were able to go tubing, fishing and snorkeling whenever we wanted too, which was nice. The shells are abundant on North Captiva, but Costa Cayo State park is loaded with shells. Layers of beautiful, intact shells. It was crazy. If you want shells, it is a quick boat ride and you will have more than you can carry.

We ate at Barnacles twice and our food was great both times. The service was outstanding as well. We also had dinner at Over the Water on my birthday. It was a little difficult to get in touch with them, but worth the effort. The food was very good. Not inexpensive, but worth it. Large portions and cooked when you ordered it, by the owner.

We had a great time at this property, the owners were so pleasant to deal with in preparation for this trip.Very helpful in our planning . Bob and his wife even had a lovely birthday gift for me at house when we arrived.

I would highly recommend a trip to North Captiva for laid back vacation on a beautiful secluded island.

My kids are already asking to go back this summer!

Owner's Response: Hello Tiffany, Happy belated birthday and thank you for taking the time to write a review about Rum Point. We are so glad you were able to get together with so much of your family all in one house to share your special event. It sounds like you enjoyed everything the house had to offer to the fullest and made the most of the island too. Isn't it great how after you got settled in on that first day, that you begin to realize you have just discovered an actual slice of paradise and all that is required of you from that point on is to relax and make some memories with friends and family? It sounds like you did just that. Renting the boat was a great idea that we recommend to anyone. We're glad you got to get out and see some of the surrounding islands. There is so much opportunity for exploring in that part of Florida that you could have stayed for another week and still not seen it all. We hope to have you back again soon for more family celebrations.

4 Generation Family Dream

  • 5 of 5

This house was wonderful. We spent 2 weeks with 4 generations of family. The staff were excellent. The pool was great. Beds were comfortable. Everything we needed was there. Comes with NCIC membership. We took advantage of kayaking, bikes, pool. Order some fresh seafood from Mango's and bring it home to cook. Those were our best meals. 11 people there and we never felt crowded. We are still debating what was more beautiful, sunrise or sunset from the crows nest. We will be back to both North Captiva and Rum Point. This was the most relaxing vacation ever.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review, we value any and all feedback from our guests. We are so glad to hear that you enjoyed Rum Point, the home has been a dream come true for our family and a true pleasure to share with other families such as yours. We completely understand your inability to find a final winner in the debate over Sunrise or Sunset, the view from up top is possibly the best on the island and the colors that come alive twice a day are incredible. We are glad you were able to be there with so many of your family and that you found the home to be plenty big enough. We too travel with extended family often and one of the things we always appreciate is the amount of space and decks. It's great to hear you took advantage of the NCIC membership, the kayaks are great way to explore a little more of the island and check out some of our aquatic life.
