Overview

About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6-7)

We purchased the property back in 1999 with my father and brother. In 2001 we had finished our homes. Mine and my brothers homes are approximate approximately 4000 Sq Ft. with my fathers at around 2000 Sq Ft. located right on one of the Trout Ponds. (He fishes from his deck).

The Trout Creek Ranch is an incredible property with a stream (Trout Creek) running through the middle of the Valley thru two Trout Ponds. We have so enjoyed the property with nearby access to over 150 miles of trails through the National Forest. We are only 5 minutes from the town of Woodland Park and 25 minutes from Colorado Springs.

Keywords: The Ranch is located on 50 acres with Trout Creek running through the property and feeding two trout ponds. The ranch has beautiful views of Pikes Peak. There are many different species of wildlife living on and near the ranch, such as deer, elk, bear, fox, geese and ducks.

This Ranch has often been referred to as a little piece of heaven, a paradise and a romantic retreat. It is located 20 miles from Colorado Springs,18 miles from Cripple Creek , 83 miles from the the beautiful ski resort of Breckenridge and Denver is only an hour and a half away. There are wonderful hiking trails, fishing and over 150 miles of national forest trails through the nearby Pike National Forest (great atv and hiking trails).

We bought the Ranch after my retirement. It's our privilege to make the Ranch available for others to enjoy.

Why Wendell Howie chose South Central Colorado

We love the Rocky Mountains and the Colorado Springs Region.

What makes this house unique

The Ranch has two beautiful Trout ponds with 'Trout Creek' running thru each. The Pikes Peak National Forest with over 150 miles of trails is less the 1/2 mile from the Ranch. We are only 5 minutes from the town of Woodland Park and 25 minutes from Colorado Springs.

Second Stay

  • 5 of 5

My grandson and I recently stayed at this property. My wife and I had stayed there 3 years ago. It is a great property and we really enjoyed the country setting and fish ponds. It is such a delight to stand on the deck and watch the trout rise in front of you. Wildlife was also abundant. While standing on the deck one evening, a deer walked directly beneath me not more than 6 feet away! We also saw marmots playing in the yard. There is a nice view of Pike's Peak as well. If you really want to get a taste for what it would be like to live in the Colorado mountains, this is definitely the place. Thanks again to Wendell Howie for the hospitality!

Beautiful Setting

  • 5 of 5

If you want a true Colorado experiance, choose this ranch! We wanted to stay in the Colorado Springs area- but did not want the stuffy hotel experiance. This house was close to Pikes Peak, Garden of the Gods, ect, but tucked away from the tourist area. Clean house, had everything we needed. At night we could sit on the deck and watch wildlife. Full kitchen was great so we could eat breakfast then be on our way to see all the great things the area had to offer. We didn't get a chance to fish off the deck, but would have loved to if we had stayed a little longer. Owners are very nice and we're able to give us ideas of things to see on our short visit. We stayed, 2 adults, 2 teens and a 6yr old, plenty of room! Highly recommended!

We were extremely pleased with this home.

  • 5 of 5

Our extended family of 8 had a wonderful time at this home. Plenty of room, kitchen well supplied, and we were very satisfied in bringing our foods in and cooking while there. This property was also very easy to access on great roads. Only 5 minutes from Woodland Park. Thank you!

Perfect Place!

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved our stay here! The house was nice and the location perfect. The property was even more beautiful than the pictures. We fished off the porch and loved climbing and walking around the property. We saw deer and yellow-bellied marmots played every day in the back yard. The Howie's were great hosts and we enjoyed talking with them about the area. Wendell recommended driving back on Phantom Canyon road after our rafting trip in Canon City and it turned out to be such a fun adventure. We will definitely return in the future. Thanks for making our 2017 family vacation one to remember!

The home is right by a beautiful pond fed by two streams. Fishing right off the deck is really cool. Very relaxing. I could recommend to anyone.

Not the best

  • 3 of 5

It was a nice house, a little "worn", moderately clean, the owners were difficult. They claimed damage done by previous renters as our damage. We told them when we were leaving so we could do a walk through, but they came after we left. Live and learn.

Owner's Response: We have never received a 3 star review but I think I know the reason why. When this client made his reservation he immediately went in and canceled the property damage protection coverage, which my father requires on his home. When my wife called him regarding the cancellation, he told her to never call again and threatened her over the phone. I immediately called him and ask him why he threatened my wife. He said he didn't know who it was and that he would get a new policy in place. We waited for a new policy to be issued but non was. We requested that the client get the policy replaced again at his arrival. He said that it was replaced so we contacted the company and they insisted that it was not. When asked again, he did get the policy. The client had originally rented the home for 6 adults. When we greeted them on his arrival, we realized that there were 9 people. We mentioned that the home was rented for 6 and that according to our rate schedule on the website, each additional individual would be $10 per night. Instead of agreeing to pay the additional fee he said that he would have to check on that and get back to me. They requested additional linens, towels, bedding and use of an air mattress. We complied to his request right away. We never rent this home for 9 people due to the fact that it has only 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. On the website we say that the home sleeps 6 to 7 persons and the maximum occupancy is 8. The following day the client did not follow up with us as he had said. We asked again about the payment for the three additional guests. He said that he had not had time to look at it and would get back with me. We contacted HomeAway/VRBO.com to explain the problem we were having with this guest. They indicated that they would document the problem and that if the guest did not comply they may be evicted. We, for the 3rd time, asked our guest for the additional payment due and again we were told that he would get back to us. I then explained that we would have to clear the home by that night if he did not pay the additional amount due. He drove away. That evening I went by the home and he agreed to put the additional amount on his credit card. We had food and wine stains on the carpet. These were verified by our cleaning crew & ourselves to not have been from a previous guest. As anyone can see from our reviews, the home is always very clean and in great condition. Wendell
