For the last 20 years, my husband has served as Chancellor of two statewide higher educational systems: the University of West Virginia System, in Charleston, West Virginia; and the Tennessee Board of Regents, in Nashville, Tennessee. He is a very gentle and gracious man who cares deeply about education. Yet with state resources strained to the limit these days, public education is a highly politicized enterprise, with increasing competition for decreasing dollars. So after each of his quarterly board meetings, I would whisk Charles out to San Francisco for a little break: to restore and re-charge, to rest and read, to walk the wonderful streets of San Francisco and to eat in grand restaurants in the City.
The result is this apartment. It is such a perfect spot, with its panoramic views, elegant interiors, and central location: it has become our home away from home, beckoning us from our busy lives, something we look forward to and truly embrace in our lives.
If you are looking for an opportunity for just the right place, to get a break, restore and re-charge, and still be in the center of a vibrant city with all it has to offer, this could be the place for you.
Dr. Sherry Manning purchased this house in 2011
Hello from Minnesota, Sherry and Family thank you for a wonderful stay in your Home in Lovely San Fran. We arrived on a Thursday and stayed the long weekend will Monday. What a great location and place. I must say I have calf's of steel from walking the hills. Location is the key for this home walking distance to so many locations, Little Italy, Fisherman's Warf, China town and much more. We loved the private Patio in the Home so nice in the evenings and early am. Plenty of coffee houses in the area as well and we found a little mom and Pop shop 2 blocks down for some fresh produce and goodies. We loved the trip and San Fran .
Thank you so much Sherry.
PS: Check out the Love Tour in the Hippy Volkswagen van. Great tour. ask for Deb.
This house worked very well for our Thanksgiving gathering of family and friends.
We chose it for the big kitchen, Russian Hill location on a pretty park, and great views. All were as promised. The property was clean and nicely furnished. It's walking distance to restaurants, coffee shops, food stores, and attractions.
Great views come at a price. You need to be able to climb stairs to enjoy this house.
My small criticism is that the owner should add a few items in the kitchen, have the cleaners remove old food from cupboards, and leave the correct number of towels available for the guests.
My husband and I traveled with another couple to SF and loved this property in pictures -- and moreover -- in person. It was perfect for us; it was located in a neighborhood that provided wonderful local flavor (and grocery shopping!!), and I skipped my daily run for all the walking (with hills). The beds were comfortable, the views were grand, and the kitchen was spacious and well-equipped. The only notation I would make is to ensure your realize the laundry is coin-operated (we came home with dirty clothes). Otherwise, this was a simply beautiful VRBO space with impressive views (so much so, a "local" friend was envious) and near great coffee shops (The Beacon), bars (La Trappe, Vesuvio, Tosaca), and restaurants (Fiore d'Italia, Tacolicious, Cafe Zoetrope, Cae DeLucchi).
This property is on a dead-end street at the top of Vallejo and Mason...there is no parking available to unload baggage and 56 steps to climb. Very dangerous stairway with only one handle. Property only has one smoke alarm and not positive it is in working order. We assumed that the 1/2 bath would be larger and have a shower or tub. It is really a 1/4 bath remodeled from a very small closet. Three towels were left for an entire week for 4 adults. Very dusty and dirty...bedding has not been aired out for some time. This apartment needs a thorough cleaning and mopping. Kitchen floors had old food and dirt underneath the cabinets. Deck is a shared easement with several others properties...people are going up and down at all times of the day and night. Dangerous steps down to the garbage cans and laundry room. The only redeeming quality is the view of Coit Tower and the Bay Bridge. Park below the front window is very disgusting with trash, dog feces, plastic bottles, and someone's nasty surgical gloves! Very overpriced even though the America's Cup venue was in full swing. Any extra sheets or towels are available for an additional $150.00. We did enjoy some of the ethnic food in the area; however, I would stay in a hotel at any cost after this experience with room service, daily change of towels, sheets, and a concierge.
What a superb experience!
This property is perfectly located, with a terrific ambience , beautiful views and is a great place to stay.
Russian hill, Chinatown, little Italy are all just a short walk away.
We felt really at home here.
The apartment is very well presented with high quality furniture ,everything is absolutely spotless and this was by far the best apartment we stayed in during our trip to California.
Ps the owner was totally professional and amazingly helpful.
I Recommend this lovely home to you.
From this lovely residence you can easily walk to Fisherman's wharf, Little Italy, and China Town. The cable car stops at the corner and with a Muni pass you can ride to your heart's content. The views are awesome and the place is beautifully furnished. You can sit out and watch the cars and trucks going over the Bay Bridge and the ferries and sailboats crossing the bay while listening to the charming distant clatter of the cables. Easy walk to Coit Tower, bus ride to the Golden Gate Bridge. No end to the wonderful, and affordable, restaurants within walking distance. Rent bikes a block away.
Short walk to grocery stores. You will feel like a resident as you enjoy this amazingly wonderful city from a really ambient setting.
Boating, Kayaking, Health/Beauty Spa.
