About the property

Comfortable Chesapeake Bay Waterfront Log Cabin in Exclusive Private Community

Best view on the Bay, only an hour’s Drive from Washington DC, and 25 minutes north of Solomons Island. Relax under a virgin tree canopy while gazing at the indigo Chesapeake from our Cliffside chairs!

Charming, well maintained spacious cottage perched high on the Calvert Cliffs of the Western Shore of the Bay with a 180 degree view. Watch the bald eagles soaring by the cliff and the ocean freighters and crab boats plying the waters of the Bay. This unique log home includes all the modern conveniences with a whimsical atmosphere, decorated with world treasures, antiques and Miocene Era shark’s teeth.

You will find yourself nestled under a tall canopy of trees in a private country-club-like setting with two miles of white sand beach and fabulous recreational amenities. The 300 acre secure community with its private roads, pristeen outdoor swimming pool, two excellent tennis courts, community house, boat ramp, and 5 hiking trails will engage your family in complete relaxation, all without leaving the protected community.

The two mile sand beach offers some of the best fossil hunting opportunities on the East Coast. Here you can stroll the beach and find pre-historic shark’s teeth and fossils. Families love the gentle surf and natural streams where children love to build sand castles and splash in the Bay’s sand bars, just a short 10 minute walk from the house. The beach offers lovely shade in the afternoon; a beach umbrella is included for your mornings. In addition, the community’s expansive South Beach is a 5 minute drive, where one finds picnic tables, parking, boat ramp, and port-a-potty. Bring your kayaks and canoes; we have our own boat rack on the beach, and there are wonderful opportunities to explore Parker’s Creek Nature Preserve.

The open floor plan with cathedral ceiling living room has superb Bay views, comfortable seating and a computer table. The adjoining dining porch with screened Andersen windows seats 8 at table, and also offers a lovely conversation area where you can enjoy the constantly-changing water views or cozy up with a book.

Two comfortable bedrooms, each with Euro-top double bedding, dresser and large closet, a children’s sleeping loft with an upgraded double bed, and a single bed in the living room provide many sleeping options, accommodates 5.

Recently upgraded kitchen includes newer range, large refrigerator with ice maker, new countertops, Blanco sink, and microwave. Cooks will appreciate the incredible selection of spices, condiments, staples, cooking tools, pans, baking dishes, as well as service for 8. A gas grill is convenient.

Entertainment features WiFi, DirecTV with several hundred channels, BluRay for music and DVDs, and local telephone service. A sizeable collection of books and games await you.

Cooled by central air conditioning, and warmed by oil-fired heat, you can be assured you will always be comfortable in this year-round non-smoking home. We do have a minimum age for our guests, children are welcome, and we ask that our guests board their family pets. Welcome to Stone’s Throw!

About Ginny

We are very fortunate to be the conservators of a waterfront home perched high on the cliffs of the Bay which our parents acquired in 1949. Our parents loved this magical place. We have extended their legacy by constantly maintaining and upgrading the comfortable log cabin. While the log cabin is original and authentic, it is warmed by oil heat, cooled by central air, and filled with modern conveniences. Since 2009 we opened our doors to guests, who have enjoyed vacations and shared their stories of relaxing experiences at the cabin, on the beach, in the forested community. We look forward to providing a happy home for your family's next vacation.

What makes this house unique

Stone's Throw is a unique house situated on a high cliff over the Bay where one can enjoy one of the best views on the Bay and also be surrounded by the glory of nature.

Thank you for sharing your home with us. Our husbands took us away for a long (Valentine’s) weekend. The weather was cold the first day but cleared up for the next two. We spent a lot of our time sitting on the porch looking out at the bay. What a breathtaking view!

We also had fun searching the beaches for shark’s teeth.

I was an awesome time with family and we plan to come back when the weather is warmer.

Wonderful place to stay

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I had a wonderful weekend at Stone's throw! We loved it from the moment we walked in the door. I love that it all feels so personal, with books and shells and things that I imagine have been collected over the 70 years of ownership. The pictures are very accurate, so it was actually even better than expected. The view of the bay is extraordinary, and we awoke on Saturday morning to a bedroom suffused with rosy golden light from the sunrise streaming in from the front of the house. The moon was on splendid view both Friday and Saturday nights, and we had dinner on the porch lit with just the candles provided, the better to enjoy the path of the moon across the water.

All of the furnishings were very comfortable and there were plenty of cooking supplies in the kitchen. We would definitely come back and have already shared the rental information with many of our friends. We loved it!

Owner's Response: Cathy, Thanks so much for your kind review. Your skill in writing is quite evident! Yes the home has been in the family for 70 years and we are blessed to display our parents' world travel keepsakes and a lifetime of fossils and other natural discoveries found along the cliffs and beach. We are constantly striving to make the home as comfortable as possible so that our guests have a relaxing vacation. We look forward to your early return! G.

This was exactly the getaway we were hoping for! Peace & quiet and perfect for family time!!

  • 5 of 5

With two teenagers in tow, we were looking for a place with interest that would allow us some private family time. A 'Stone's Throw' on the Chesapeake Bay couldn't have been more perfect! With all of the comfortable amenities of home, the quaint setting also encouraged togetherness. Whether we were gathered at the table for a card game, chatting over coffee & treats in the Adirondack chairs, bird & boat watching on the front yard or shell & shark teeth collecting on the nearby beach, we were comfortably 'at home' away from home content to enjoy one another! It was the perfect retreat! Plenty of trails & beach for walking. Nearby preserves to drive to for additional adventure. And plenty of excitement at an easy hours drive distance! We chose Annapolis and had a splendid day! A boat tour, ice cream, shopping and a beautiful self-guided stroll through The Navy's Academy! Of course, we couldn't leave without a seafaring dinner! The Boatyard filled us with amazing coastal fare. Clearly the BEST crab cakes I have EVER tasted! Likewise, daily away-from-home needs were easily met in nearby Prince Frederick. But mostly, staying at the cabin as much as the teens would allow, we felt so at home. Each bedroom was perfectly comfortable! Very comfy beds! Sufficient bathroom. And a thoughtfully stocked kitchen, with a perfect balance of room for your own food, and simple basics available for use. Incredibly thoughtful were the 'just in case' 'first night bites' waiting in the freezer in case you hadn't taken care of the arrival evening meal yourself! And fully stocked with every pot, pan, dish & utensil you might be used to at home! We also appreciated the very clear dos & don'ts and directions for opening, using and closing that were posted throughout the house or in the book, and also in welcoming packet sent to us before the trip. Very well thought out. I never would have thought of this before, but it especially made my teenage girls comfortable as staying in someone else's house made them initially a little nervous . Knowing exactly what was okay and not okay made them feel so much more comfortable. Who knew?!

Overall, Stone's Throw was exactly the private get-away we were looking for!! Go! You won't be disappointed!

Had a great stay. Weather didn't comply that much, but being stuck inside Stone's Throw wasn't a problem.
