About Ginny

We are very fortunate to be the conservators of a waterfront home perched high on the cliffs of the Bay which our parents acquired in 1949. Our parents loved this magical place. We have extended their legacy by constantly maintaining and upgrading the comfortable log cabin. While the log cabin is original and authentic, it is warmed by oil heat, cooled by central air, and filled with modern conveniences. Since 2009 we opened our doors to guests, who have enjoyed vacations and shared their stories of relaxing experiences at the cabin, on the beach, in the forested community. We look forward to providing a happy home for your family's next vacation.

What makes this house unique

Stone's Throw is a unique house situated on a high cliff over the Bay where one can enjoy one of the best views on the Bay and also be surrounded by the glory of nature.

Thank you for sharing your home with us. Our husbands took us away for a long (Valentine’s) weekend. The weather was cold the first day but cleared up for the next two. We spent a lot of our time sitting on the porch looking out at the bay. What a breathtaking view!

We also had fun searching the beaches for shark’s teeth.

I was an awesome time with family and we plan to come back when the weather is warmer.

Summer 2017

My husband and I decided to stay near the West River annual Deaf/Blind Camp; where my sister attended. A Stone’s Throw was a perfect location not far from the camp. The cabin is very comfortable and cozy. During our stay we had our meals on the enclosed porch while enjoying the views of the bay, beautiful cardinals playing in the yard, and falcons circling the area in search for food. The beach area was clean and private. The rooms were very comfortable and the kitchen had all of the cooking supplies you would need. The books, pictures, and various collections of over 50 years made me feel like going back in time; living with my mother. I thought my Mom would walk through the door at any time. Ginny was always available to answer questions. She provided great information on fishing piers. We got a Maryland fishing license on line and enjoyed fishing from the Solomons Pier. Ginny, thank you for sharing your home.

Owner's Response: Terri, We are fortunate to display many treasures from our parents' around the world travels, prehistoric fossils found on the beach, and antiques. It is so nice to hear that this made your stay more enjoyable and feel right at home. And I am so glad that your husband enjoyed fishing from the Solomons Pier. I am so happy that you chose Stone's Throw for your vacation, and we do hope to have you as our guests again soon.

Beautiful view..buuutttt.....

The house was adequate and the view spectacular!

Unfortunately for us the black flies were abundant and you could not sit outside for more then 5 minutes w/o being repeatedly bitten, bug spray be damned!

The beach was disappointing as erosion has taken most of it. South beach is NOT expansive and the only thing that there was plenty of were the flies.

The pool was closed for renovations which I was not informed of until 2 days prior to my stay.

I would never go back and I'll never use VRBO/HomeAway again.

Owner's Response: Thirty seven of our wonderful guests over the course of eight years have written 5-star reviews. While I am disappointed that I could not please Emily, I did make many attempts. The fact that the community pool did not open in time for our guests' visit was disappointing (first time in the pool’s history). The renovations encountered delays which were out of our control. I did pay Emily for all guest fees at the three new pools in the County during her stay. We do not have "black flies" in Maryland, these live in New England. In the late afternoon if there is a westerly breeze one can have house flies, but this is not a frequent occurrence. This summer the Bay has experienced very high water levels and southerly breezes which has decreased the width of the beach; and unfortunately mother nature is in charge of that. Next week the situation can be quite different. While we do not have huge beaches like at the ocean, we do have a nice private white sandy beach which provides excellent walking, sun bathing and fascinating fossil hunting.

Very cozy

  • 4 of 5

A stones throw was extremely inviting and cozy. Ginny and her husband maintain a beautiful spot on the bay. Town is only a short drive away with a decent amount of things to do if the weather isn't cooperative for beach time. Only minor inconvience was not having easy access to a washer and dryer with two small boys, but there was a coin laundry in town. Ginny was always available to answer any questions we had whenever we had them.

This was exactly the getaway we were hoping for! Peace & quiet and perfect for family time!!

  • 5 of 5

With two teenagers in tow, we were looking for a place with interest that would allow us some private family time. A 'Stone's Throw' on the Chesapeake Bay couldn't have been more perfect! With all of the comfortable amenities of home, the quaint setting also encouraged togetherness. Whether we were gathered at the table for a card game, chatting over coffee & treats in the Adirondack chairs, bird & boat watching on the front yard or shell & shark teeth collecting on the nearby beach, we were comfortably 'at home' away from home content to enjoy one another! It was the perfect retreat! Plenty of trails & beach for walking. Nearby preserves to drive to for additional adventure. And plenty of excitement at an easy hours drive distance! We chose Annapolis and had a splendid day! A boat tour, ice cream, shopping and a beautiful self-guided stroll through The Navy's Academy! Of course, we couldn't leave without a seafaring dinner! The Boatyard filled us with amazing coastal fare. Clearly the BEST crab cakes I have EVER tasted! Likewise, daily away-from-home needs were easily met in nearby Prince Frederick. But mostly, staying at the cabin as much as the teens would allow, we felt so at home. Each bedroom was perfectly comfortable! Very comfy beds! Sufficient bathroom. And a thoughtfully stocked kitchen, with a perfect balance of room for your own food, and simple basics available for use. Incredibly thoughtful were the 'just in case' 'first night bites' waiting in the freezer in case you hadn't taken care of the arrival evening meal yourself! And fully stocked with every pot, pan, dish & utensil you might be used to at home! We also appreciated the very clear dos & don'ts and directions for opening, using and closing that were posted throughout the house or in the book, and also in welcoming packet sent to us before the trip. Very well thought out. I never would have thought of this before, but it especially made my teenage girls comfortable as staying in someone else's house made them initially a little nervous . Knowing exactly what was okay and not okay made them feel so much more comfortable. Who knew?!

Overall, Stone's Throw was exactly the private get-away we were looking for!! Go! You won't be disappointed!

Wonderful place to stay

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I had a wonderful weekend at Stone's throw! We loved it from the moment we walked in the door. I love that it all feels so personal, with books and shells and things that I imagine have been collected over the 70 years of ownership. The pictures are very accurate, so it was actually even better than expected. The view of the bay is extraordinary, and we awoke on Saturday morning to a bedroom suffused with rosy golden light from the sunrise streaming in from the front of the house. The moon was on splendid view both Friday and Saturday nights, and we had dinner on the porch lit with just the candles provided, the better to enjoy the path of the moon across the water.

All of the furnishings were very comfortable and there were plenty of cooking supplies in the kitchen. We would definitely come back and have already shared the rental information with many of our friends. We loved it!
