About the property

Cabin, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, Sleeps 5

Comfortable Chesapeake Bay Waterfront Historic Log Cabin in Exclusive Private Community where you can enjoy swimming, tennis and beachcombing.

Best view on the Bay, only an hour’s Drive from Washington DC, and 25 minutes north of Solomons Island. Relax under a virgin tree canopy while gazing at the indigo Chesapeake from our Cliffside chairs!

Charming, well maintained spacious cottage perched high on the Calvert Cliffs of the Western Shore of the Bay with a 180 degree view. Watch the bald eagles soaring by the cliff and the ocean freighters and crab boats plying the waters of the Bay. This unique log home includes all the modern conveniences with a whimsical atmosphere, decorated with world treasures, antiques and Miocene Era shark’s teeth.

You will find yourself nestled under a tall canopy of trees in a private country-club-like setting with two miles of white sand beach and fabulous recreational amenities. The 300 acre secure community with its private roads, pristeen outdoor swimming pool, two excellent tennis courts, community house, boat ramp, and 5 hiking trails will engage your family in complete relaxation, all without leaving the protected community.

The two mile sand beach (tidal fluctuations) offers some of the best fossil hunting opportunities on the East Coast. Here you can stroll the beach and find pre-historic shark’s teeth and fossils. Families love the gentle surf and natural streams where children love to build sand castles and splash in the Bay’s sand bars, just a short 10 minute walk from the house. The beach offers lovely shade in the afternoon; a beach umbrella is included for your mornings. In addition, the community’s expansive South Beach is a 5 minute drive, where one finds picnic tables, parking, boat ramp, and port-a-potty. Bring your kayaks and canoes; there are wonderful opportunities to explore Parker’s Creek Nature Preserve just a short paddle north.

The open floor plan with cathedral ceiling living room has superb Bay views, comfortable seating and a computer table. The adjoining dining porch with screened Andersen windows seats 8 at table, and also offers a lovely conversation area where you can enjoy the constantly-changing water views or cozy up with a book.

Two comfortable bedrooms, each with Euro-top double bedding, dresser and large closet, a children’s sleeping loft with an upgraded double bed, and a single bed in the living room provide many sleeping options, accommodates 5.

Recently upgraded kitchen includes newer range, large refrigerator with ice maker, new countertops, Blanco sink, and microwave. Cooks will appreciate the incredible selection of spices, condiments, staples, cooking tools, pans, baking dishes, as well as table service for 8. A full size gas grill is convenient.

Entertainment features WiFi, Roku with Sling TV with several hundred channels including Showtime, BluRay for music and DVDs, and local telephone service. A sizeable collection of books and games await you.

Cooled by central air conditioning, and warmed by oil-fired heat, you can be assured you will always be comfortable in this year-round non-smoking home. We do have a minimum age for our guests, children are welcome, and we ask that our guests board their family pets. Welcome to Stone’s Throw!

About Ginny

We are very fortunate to be the conservators of a waterfront home perched high on the cliffs of the Bay which our parents acquired in 1949. Our parents loved this magical place. We have extended their legacy by constantly maintaining and upgrading the comfortable log cabin. While the log cabin is original and authentic, it is warmed by oil heat, cooled by central air, and filled with modern conveniences. Since 2009 we opened our doors to guests, who have enjoyed vacations and shared their stories of relaxing experiences at the cabin, on the beach, in the forested community. We look forward to providing a happy home for your family's next vacation.

What makes this house unique

Stone's Throw is a unique house situated on a high cliff over the Bay where one can enjoy one of the best views on the Bay and also be surrounded by the glory of nature.

Thank you for sharing your home with us. Our husbands took us away for a long (Valentine’s) weekend. The weather was cold the first day but cleared up for the next two. We spent a lot of our time sitting on the porch looking out at the bay. What a breathtaking view!

We also had fun searching the beaches for shark’s teeth.

I was an awesome time with family and we plan to come back when the weather is warmer.

Truly a hidden gem, unplug when you need to, plug in when you have to

  • 5 of 5

I almost don't want to share the experience... The view from the cliffs is ridiculous in itself as you can see (it is simply stunning). Sure, you are in an old log cabin with accouterments akin to the movie The Great Outdoors.. but be fooled not! All the modern conveniences are here. So you can unplug completely and star gaze (no big city lights dim the view)... or walk on the beach for hours... or hike on the Chestnut Land Trails just down the road... But when you need to just hop on the cable Wifi or use any of the plethora of modern appliances in the kitchen. The furniture is all rustic but comfy.

You drive up a long winding road, truly seeming like being in the middle of nowhere only to reveal a small, dedicated (and did I say friendly) community nestled literally into the woods (deer, fox, birds - big ones like Eagles hunting!)

Here is the flipside though... just a short 10 minute drive and you are in Prince Frederick MD... with some top notch restaurants (mexican, sushi, thai.. and of course MD seafood) and plenty of supermarket/market choices (and chains you will be familiar with Starbucks etc.)

The property itself is always well maintained. I have never had an issue with any appliance or such... it seemingly is perfect every time I arrive with little improvements here and there (IHome speaker I didn't even notice.. but my phone did)

So as a tech nerd who loves nature this hits all the marks. I don't have to give up my tech needs but yet nature is right here for as much or as little as you want to partake.

Travel down to the main beach (5 min by car) or walk through wild ravines that have stair cases snaking through the forest (and some bamboo forests - awesome).

The driveway is jet black at night, so use your phone or flashlights they have on property as you have to go up some stairs to the main entrance and the stairs are uneven.

All the instructions you need are provided in a welcome packet which has evolved over the years.. and if you have ANY questions responses are always prompt.

Barring armageddon I will be back again and again :)

Stone's Throw is a charming, relaxing cabin. Unique vintage and antique decor, warm and inviting. We had a fantastic week fossil hunting on the beach and bay watching from atop the cliff. Perfect getaway spot! We'll be back!

We absolutely love it here. It's our second visit and we'll continue to come as long as it's available. Ginny is wonderful to work with... always helpful to send info on local places to eat and shop, and always willing to answer our questions. The area is gorgeous. Love the woods and beach. Relaxing, quiet getaway.

charming, peaceful, with breathtaking view

  • 5 of 5

This is our fourth time staying at Stone's Throw in as many years. Its quaint charm and peaceful setting makes for a remarkably relaxing and restful place, augmented by the majestic view of the Chesapeake, with bald eagles and ospreys soaring around all day. Gorgeous sunrises and beautiful full moons over the Bay are a treat for the eye. A great place for a retreat from the trepidation of city life. Yet the latter is only an hour away if one ever has an urge for a quick urban fix in the middle of vacation.

Exquisite cabin and views -- simply unforgettable

  • 5 of 5

When viewing listings in hopes of booking a family getaway, it takes some blind faith that the pictures are representative of the listing that you are potentially booking. Something about the pictures just made Stone’s Throw seem like the perfect getaway for my young family. I can assure you that the pictures for this listing are 100% accurate and true to life. The view from the cabin is one of the most breathtaking things that I have ever seen. Most of our time was spent in the sun-room just enjoying the beautiful view and watching ships and birds -- by far, our family’s favorite room. The cabin is exquisitely kept and the decor provides a charm that can only happen with the love and care that comes from collecting family treasures over time.

Some things don’t always go as planned. The pool was closed for work longer than expected. Ginny was fantastic in this situation, giving us alternatives that we would be able to enjoy as a family. Ginny and Gary are awesome owners and so wonderful to work with. They were available to answer any questions and I often found that there was a reply far quicker than I anticipated.

In short, if you are considering Stone’s Throw for your family getaway or vacation, I highly suggest that you do so. It is an experience that you will not soon forget in the very best way.

Thank you, Ginny and Gary for sharing your home with us...and please tell Pacer the Guard Deer that we loved him too!
