About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 8)

We invite you to our cozy 3 bedroom cottage in Halfmoon Bay. You will forget all the stresses of city living as soon as you arrive. Surrounded by the forest and taking in the expansive views over Halfmoon Bay and beyond to Vancouver Island’s snow capped mountains, you will soon experience a sense of well being and contentment.

Situated on a small hill adjacent to the shore, it’s only steps to the beach and the historic Redrooffs Trail that will take you to the Halfmoon Bay General Store, the Upper Crust Gourmet Store and the government wharf.

Watch bald eagles, blue herons and osprey share the sky. Closer to shore, you’ll see seals, otters and a great variety of waterfowl. Sunsets are spectacular and provide many photo opportunities.

In the summertime there is a steady stream of boat traffic as beautiful yachts head up Welcome Passage on their way to the famous cruising grounds of Desolation Sound. In the evenings, Alaska bound cruise ships can be seen heading up the Strait of Georgia in the golden glow of the setting sun. There is always something to see and there are many recreational activities for visitors.

Kayak in Halfmoon Bay or head over to Buccaneer Bay on Thormanby Island where you can enjoy one of the finest sandy beaches in the Strait of Georgia. Play golf at one of our challenging courses or go hiking on the many trails. Drive up to Egmont (35minutes) and enjoy the easy 45 minute hike into the famous Skookumchuk Narrows where you can view one of the largest and fastest tidal rapids in the world running at over 14 knots! Take an easy hike up Pender Hill in Irvine’s Landing and enjoy spectacular views of Pender Harbour (sometimes called “Venice of the North”), the Strait of Georgia and Vancouver Island.

Go fishing. There is excellent fishing with guides available in Secret Cove and other locations. Closer to home, you can try your luck right off the Halfmoon Bay government dock. Rent a boat from Buccaneer Marina in Secret Cove and explore the coastline and islands.

Or, just stay put, enjoy the cottage and relax. Sit on the deck and read your favourite book. Watch one of our many movies or check out what's available on Netflix. Soak in the hot tub after going for your walk. The opportunities for your enjoyment are endless.

Read some of the many comments from our guests and then check our online calendar for availability. We would love to host you for your special vacation or weekend getaway.

Our family purchased the property in 1981 and then had the cottage built to lockup by a local contractor. We spent the next few years making our cottage into a very special, comfortable weekend home and have continued to make many improvements over the years.

We chose locating on the Sunshine Coast for it's proximity to Greater Vancouver and also for it's unique location. It's only accessible via the ferry (a short 40 minute sailing) which makes it special. The Sunshine Coast enjoys a very relaxed lifestyle and provides residents and visitors with a great variety of activities not to mention the spectacular outdoors. We enjoy sharing our special retreat with guests who come from all over Western Canada, Washington, Oregon, Colorado, Texas, Hawaii and also some from Europe. It gives us great pleasure to welcome our guests to our little piece of paradise.

Why HART PFORTMUELLER chose Sunshine Coast

We chose the Sunshine Coast for it's proximity to Greater Vancouver and it's laid back lifestyle coupled with lots of outdoor activities. See above for more details.

What makes this house unique

Our cottage has all of the amenities of a house in the city, yet we have total privacy on a 1/2 acre of semi waterfront with spectacular views of Halfmoon Bay and beyond. We enjoy having our boat moored in front of the property and easy access to many cruising destinations. Our grandchildren enjoy the playground on the property, the hot tub and many other outdoor activities.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Another great weekend at the cottage. Christina and I talked all night and just enjoyed being together and with baby Connor too! Just love being up here and also having a long visit before going away again for a year.

Great place for a getaway!

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful and private spot overlooking the water!

The cottage itself is spacious and clean, with 3 bedrooms plus a "rock room" downstairs - we fit six people comfortably over the weekend. The kitchen is fully stocked (cooked all our meals no problem), living room spacious yet cozy with a wood firestove (perfect for evenings playing boardgames and drinking wine), and bedrooms are fully furnished (with extra beddings if needed). Only downside is the single bathroom, but again, it didn't pose too much of a problem for us. And the two in our group who tried the outdoor shower loved it. They keep the linens/towels/kitchen well stocked with necessities so all you need to bring is your clothes/food and you're good for the weekend =).

Outdoor Space:

The covered deck looks out to a beautiful view of the water through the trees. Such a serene setting. The deck has a comfortable outdoor couch (and a firepit!) which we enjoyed even in the middle of winter! There is also a hammock, outdoor dining spot, and a grill =).

We also enjoyed the outdoor hot tub adjacent to the patio. Perfect for a relaxing and private dip at night.

Halfmoon Bay is less than half an hour away from Sechelt, but feels like a true getaway from the bustle of adjacent towns. There is a General Store (and liquor store) and Cafe nearby.

This gem exceeded our expectations. It was a fantastic weekend! Thanks Hart =).

Yearly Favorite!

  • 5 of 5

We have been coming here every fall for the last 4 years for our annual "Mommy Weekend". We love the cottage, the atmosphere and the relaxation. Everything you need is right here whether you want to venture out or have a relaxing weekend in. We love the hot tub, the view and the serenity we feel by the time we pack up and leave. The outdoor shower is the best!

Hart goes out of his way to make sure everything that needs to be is available, a prefect place for a girls get away!

We are already planning next years weekend here!

Amazing location and amenities

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I were looking for a few quiet days away. This location is on a beautiful piece of land with lots of trees to make you feel as if you are in the woods. The fire pit and private hot tub, and outdoor hot shower are grest touches. Like camping with all the amenities of home! Loved the hammock on the back deck over looking the ocean. I started and ended my day there. This house has lots of extra towels, blankets, and extra stuff in the kitchen;plenty of spices, knives, cutting boards; cutlery and pots and pans. This is a nice change as most rental propertis lack in the kitchen department. Not this place; it has it all! We will be back

Paradise in Halfmoon Bay.

  • 5 of 5

Making this property our vacation destination this year was the best decision we could have made. The cottage was very cozy, extremely clean, had everything we needed, the beds were super comfortable but the extraordinary thing about this cottage was the absolutely incredible view of the ocean below. Sitting on the deck taking in the sheer beauty, the tranquility and the eagle soaring high above made us wish that life could stand still.

We cannot wait to go back. Next time with our grandchildren so they can play on the playground and try the mini zip line that this property has. Amazing attention made for all age groups. A very quaint place and well worth a visit it, or many.

Thank you for sharing your home away from home.
