Wonderful couple+dog trip

Great little house, we had a fantastic time grilling on the deck, the pup got to run on the giant lawn, lots of good hiking nearby. We'd love to come back.

Cozy little cabin with a big porch, rustic but comfortable.

Everything went smoothly, Nathan was very helpful with any problem, and the cabin itself was very comfortable for a quick getaway. Heat and hot water worked well, we did plenty of cooking, and it's a pretty property outside of town. Recommend for a couple.

Very Nice Little Cabin

  • 4 of 5

Cute and cozy cabin. The bed was a bit hard and the couch could have been more comfortable, but it was very pleasant with great access to the creek right across the street. Perfect for picnicking and sitting by the fire.

Great cabin, great area, great time!

  • 5 of 5

Stayed here for 2 nights during a weekend while snowboarding at Belleayre. The cabin was great and suited all our needs! It was unusually warm for January so we were able to enjoy the deck for some apres ski activity. Besides having to leave such a great time our stay was fantastic! I will definitely be a returning customer!

One star

My wife and I arrived at the cabin mid-afternoon after around a foot of snow had fallen a couple of nights before. Although the driveway on the property had been plowed up to a certain point, I still had to trudge 100 feet or so through unshoveled snow just to gain access to the cabin. The stairs and deck leading to the door of the cabin were similarly unshoveled, with a large buildup of snow and ice. This made gaining access to the interior impossible for my wife, who is disabled. Luckily, I found a shovel leaning against the outside of the cabin and was able to clear a path.

The heat was on inside, indicating that the owner had been there at some point, but the clocks looked like they had never been set back from last November, leading us to believe that the cabin had been unoccupied at least since then.

Cleanliness left a lot to be desired (despite the inclusion of a non-refundable cleaning fee). The cabin was infested with hundreds of beetles and there were food remnants in the refrigerator to name but 2 examples. There was no TV (not sure if this was indicated in the property description) but the wi-fi seemed to work OK. The mattress, however was hard as a rock. This was the deal breaker for my wife who suffers from chronic pain and has major back issues.

We decided, reluctantly, not to stay as we were prepaid for a 2 night stay and were now faced with the unenviable task of trying to find last minute lodging in the area before night fell.

We turned down the heat as instructed and left the property just as we found it (albeit freshly shoveled). In all, we were there less than 30 minutes. Taking that into account as well as the fact that we actually left the property cleaner than we found it, I don't think it unreasonable to ask for some kind of refund. We contacted the owner within an hour after we first arrived, letting him know we left, but never received any acknowledgement from him.

We are not the type to leave negative reviews lightly, but felt that we had to voice our dissatisfaction with our experience.

Owner's Response: It is unfortunate that Mr. Lombardi and his wife decided that they were unable to stay at our cabin. We are always happy to communicate and work hard to resolve any issue that might arise before or during a guest’s stay. Unfortunately, Mr. Lombardi did not give us the opportunity to do so. While we are sympathetic to anyone with medical or other special needs and do our best to accommodate them (or, alternatively, let them know that we can’t, this is only possible when there is prior communication of such conditions or needs. In the case of the Mr. and Mrs. Lombardi, at no point prior to their arrival were we informed of this, asked about the firmness of the mattress, etc. The communication received on February 10 from Mr. Lombardi regarding his decision not to stay is reproduced below in its entirety. START QUOTED TEXT Hi- Wanted to let you know that we won't be staying at the cottage after all. We arrived around 4:30. As I was bringing things from the car, my wife sat on the bed to try it out. She suffers from severe arthritis and knew she wouldn't be able to sleep on it, so we had to leave. The key is on the table where you left it and we lowered the heat. Just wanted to inform you that we weren't staying. - Andrew END QUOTED TEXT I acknowledge that I should have responded to this communication, and apologize for my failure to do so. But, frankly, I was at a loss as to how to respond. The reservation was not cancelled, the online calendar remained blocked, and the cabin remained unoccupied for the weekend. For the record, the mattress in question is a firm queen-size mattress, recently purchased. It is in no way defective or substandard. I have had communications from other guests who liked it so much that they wanted to know where we had bought it. Mattress firmness is very personal matter. In my case, a too-soft mattress can throw my lower back out and leave me in pain for days. When I travel, I make every effort to ensure that I will have the kind of firm mattress that suits me. Two weeks ago, I received a communication from HomeAway indicating that Mr. Lombardi was seeking a full refund by reversing the credit card charges. The matter is still pending. Again, we enjoy and appreciate communications with guests prior to and after arrival. No question is too detailed or seemingly trivial. We want all our guests to enjoy their stay, and we want to enjoy hosting you.
