The Captain William Morgan House, a sea captain's home circa 1850. Completely renovated in 2010, this Greek Revival maintains all of its original charm as well as modern amenities. It is located in the heart of downtown Mystic's historic district- leave your car and walk everywhere!
The yard is entirely fenced in. There is a sitting porch on the front and a large, covered, pillared porch on the back of the house. We created a 6 ft. granite fire pit in the back as well as another patio. Vegetable and flower gardens surround the property.
Mystic River views are seen from most windows and the back yard. You can hear boat whistles, church bells and sea sounds. My property is a double sized lot, very private, peaceful and relaxing!
This past spring, I rented the Captain WM House to host my sister's bridal shower and it was absolutely perfect!! The best part was the look on her face as we arrived and walked through the house. Besides having an amazing location with a view of the river and walking to Main St, the house is beautifully decorated with a really fun feel.
The house is absolutely perfect for hosting a small get together. Everything you could possibly need, from serving dishes to umbrellas to dog leashes, are provided. And beyond some fresh flowers and table settings, there was no need to decorate, the house itself was lovely backdrop.
Sue was great to work with, especially considering we were planning on short notice. We even ended up booking first one, and then the second carriage house next door as time got closer for friends who were traveling to the shower and Susan quickly responded to our requests. The carriage house suites are also extremely charming.
The Captain William Morgan House was a wonderful weekend away. We hope we can return again soon!
This was my family's second stay here, our first stay was for my wedding week in August 2013. Both times we had a great time. The house is spacious and well appointed, the backyard is beautiful with lots of space for the kids to play and being able to walk down the street to downtown Mystic is such a perk. We will definitely be back again!
My friends and I stayed at the Captain Morgan House for the weekend. We all enjoyed the house and especially the backyard. Close to everything Mystic and only a drive away from the casinos. Great energy and great correspondence with owner. Thanks, Sue!
We stayed for one night. The house is beautiful! Everything is a short walk from the house- restaurants, bars, shops, etc. The house has lots of amenities. We would definitely come back for a longer period of time. Great place!
'A LITTLE PIECE OF HEAVEN'

Our daughter and new son-in-law chose Mystic, Ct for their wedding venue this past September. Our family and friends rented both Carriage Houses and also the Captain William Morgan Main house from Sue.
Our experience was nothing short of amazing!! Each carriage house was intimate, inviting, fresh and clean. Wonderful full-sized bathrooms, (amazing considering the size of the cottages), and again, so well taken care of. The backyard of the carriage houses are a lovely, perfect place to relax on an evening with bistro tables, flowers, and a fire pit.
That brings me to the large main house, which with a few steps on a well worn path between the carriage house location, is right next door. Stepping into the gorgeous large backyard and up to the porch of the Captain William Morgan.
With this property, Sue has again kept the best of the old home features while offering an extremely clean, comfortable, inviting home which has every convenience you could ask for! Filled with light, this property welcomes you home while encouraging you to throw that wonderful "Night Before the Wedding" dinner~which is just what we did!!
How special it was to be able to host all of our dear friends and family to such a beautiful spot on such a special occasion! The backyard is over-sized for such an in town location, fire pit here also, and watching folks kayak on the water from the large back porch was an unexpected treat.
Thank you SO much to Sue who answered EVERY question we had....from "Who could cater a barbecue there?" (Chesters in Groton was Fantastic!) to table rentals, (Arrow Rental in New London) We were able to create a wonderful, memorable experience.
Thank you Sue for the many little things you did, such as loaning me those extra tablecloths!! Just for that weekend, she made us feel as though this really was 'our place'! The ability to walk two tenths of a mile to the downtown/drawbridge area was a luxury~We highly recommend the Engine Room for any festivities,(that is if you can bear to leave!)
Recommend this? But, of course!!!
Sue's house was great for our purposes. We rented all three properties she manages. We were married in Stonington and had relatives in from overseas. It was the perfect location, close to downtown and nearby to the house our relatives rented. Sue was a fantastic resource. I would say her knowledge of the area, the attractions nearby and ability to be helpful are worth every penny. She let us check out the property in advance of the wedding and drove us to visit the other sites including the home relatives of ours had rented from a friend of hers nearby. We held our welcome reception at the main home and she provided the name of an affordable caterer as well as extra tables and decor. She gave us the name of a local deli to get sandwiches for the day of the wedding and even found us a responsible young adult to assist the wedding coordinator. The house was a unique design so it's best suited for a close friends and family, but it's lovely and modern. Renting the two carriage houses provided us (the bride and groom) a quite spot away from the family and was a quiet spot for friends of ours who were in the wedding party. The arbor house down the street was perfect for my SIL and her family. We loved the kayaks, the proximity to the water and the town and the big backyard. The property was clean and well-maintained. The only drawback was the owner's cat on the property because we did have one friend who we later learned had a slight allergy. i would recommend this to anyone getting married in the Stonington/Mystic area because we had a great time spending time with family around our wedding.
