Guestbook comments from the owner

We truly enjoyed our week here at beautiful Lan-y-Mor - sitting on this deck maybe the most relaxing and beautiful view on the planet. We also loved the people of Virgin Gorda- friendly and helpful - we enjoyed the beaches, snorkeling and everything about the North Sound. We hope to be back next year. This was our 20th anniversary trip that may even have topped our honeymoon!

We had a lovely stay in Nail Bay to celebrate our 30th anniversary.

  • 5 of 5

The Nail Bay house is incredible! The views from every room of the house were spectacular! We loved eating outdoors every evening, and the dipping pools. The manager, Howard, was extremely helpful and met us at the airport and gave us great suggestions for beaches and boating. When there was an issue with the refrigerator he attended to it right away. I would definitely stay there again!

Stunning views and fantastic accomodations

  • 5 of 5

Overall, the place was exactly as advertised, which is obviously amazing. We would definitely not hesitate to book again. Howard met us at the car rental agency, led us up to the house, and gave us a brief but comprehensive tour. The option of having a complementary housekeeping service every other day was also a nice touch. The plunge pools were wonderful to relax in during the evening, the bed was very comfortable, and best of all, the place is completely isolated and private. The closest house is a half mile away, so you have peace and privacy. The only real downside as other reviewers have alluded to is that the mini-fridge downstairs simply does not work. It keeps food only slightly below room temperature, which means that you cannot store food in the kitchen. It needs to be replaced.

Lan-Y-Mor stay, May 30-Jun 2, 2016

  • 4 of 5

The property has a stunning view, privacy, and is spacious. The dipping pools are a great comfort. Very comfortable amenities. All-in-all the house was in nice shape. Apart from not being able to stop and pick up supplies (water and food) prior to arriving at the house (granted our flight from St. Thomas was late) and the fact that the water in all the faucets, toilets, showers came out yellow and made us not want to rinse our tooth brush or clean any plates or utensils with it, we would recommend this to our friends. Outdoor steps to the upstairs bedroom were not much fun in the rain, but we knew about them ahead of time. Bring plenty of mosquito repellent. Bring your own bottled drinking and cleaning water. Enjoyed the stay immensely.

Owner's Response: Hello Ralph, thank you for posting a review of your stay at Lan-y-Mor and we are really pleased you enjoyed the house. As a matter of course we always supply bottled water for our guests upon their arrival and I have spoken with our villa managers about this. Our water does pass through a whole house filtration system and whilst it is preferable to drink bottled water, it is perfectly safe to use the tap water in every other way. We hope to welcome you back to Lan-y-Mor! Kind regards Laura

Breathtaking view!

  • 5 of 5

The home is set on a very private piece of property with an amazing view. The architectural detail and surrounding landscape is tropical and natural.

The inside of the home is beautiful and the furnishings in keeping with the Caribbean. Our stay was relaxing and peaceful.

Good, but not perfect

  • 3 of 5

Overall, the house was fabulous. The view, the terrace, the plunge pools were beyond compare. Bed was very comfortable. As previous reviewers have suggested, the refrigerator is a problem in that it takes about 3 days to freeze ice trays. However, refrigeration capacity wasn't a problem because there is also a small fridge in the bedroom suite. We loved the seclusion; there isn't another house within a half mile! Convenient to town and beaches. Irma and Howard were very responsive and helpful.

There were some negatives however. On the first day, we had tepid hot water, and the water pressure was low and water was brown. But most of those were resolved quickly with the replacement of the hot water heater and pump on Monday. They knew about the hot water heater in advance; it should have been rectified before our arrival. After the new water heater was installed, the shower was comfortable, but we still needed to boil water to wash dishes.

On our arrival, the beautiful bathtub was dirty and there was a smelly load of mildewed towels in the washer. Those were rectified quickly.

But our biggest disappointment was the upstairs windows. The pictures suggest a lovely bedroom suite with island breezes, when the reality was that all the window screens had been removed; and because of mosquitoes they couldn't be opened. An air conditioner kept the room quite comfortable, but if I'd wanted that I'd have stayed at a resort. And the blinds on the upstairs windows: it was suggested that we lower them in the afternoon to keep the room cool, but they were so tangled and dysfunctional that it was basically impossible. So we probably cost the owners somewhat more in electricity by using the air conditioning more than we should have needed to.

As I said in the beginning, the overall experience was fabulous. But I want the next renters to go into this with open eyes.

Owner's Response: Dear Nancy, Thank you for posting a review. We are really pleased that you absolutely loved the villa. We apologize again for the issue with the hot water heater that our villa managers had discovered just before your arrival. Unfortunately, due to the weekend and very limited availability of replacement water heaters on Virgin Gorda we were not able to install the new heater until Monday. Again thank you for your understanding that unexpected issues do happen and our managers worked hard to rectify this issue quickly. We will have the freezer part of the refrigerator tested as the fridge is only a year old and usually freezes ice cubes within hours. I understand from our villa manager that there were some clean dry towels left in the dryer upon your arrival. I'm sorry you were disappointed with the upstairs windows. There have never been screens in these windows and most guests prefer to sleep with the windows closed and the air conditioning on at night. During the day guests open the windows and lower the blinds in the afternoon. The blinds are a simple drawstring blind which work well as a window treatment to allow for both the beautiful open view and afternoon shade. I understand from our villa manager that 2 of the blinds need the string mechanism replacing and they will take care of this as soon as the parts arrive on island. We're very pleased your overall experience was FABULOUS and I'm positive our future renters will enjoy the villa, the views and the privacy as much as you did. Kind regards Laura Craig (owner)

Beautiful and private

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I had a wonderful 10 days in Lan Y Mor! The views are spectacular, and we spent a lot of time sitting on the deck. The villa itself is split into an upstair sleeping space that has an outside entrance, which can take some getting used to at night. The kitchen has everything you need except a full size refrigerater, which was our ONLY problem. We had a very hard time storing food and keeping ice. Renting a car is a must while on Virgin Gorda. Driving is very easy and exploring different beaches and restaurants was exciting and fun. The manager Irma was wonderful. She was so helpful with everything we needed. She even arranged for a massage therapist to come to the villa for my husbands birthday! We had a such a great experience, that we will be coming back!!!
