About Dylan Reidt

Does it get any better?

Dylan Reidt purchased this house in 2000

Why Dylan Reidt chose West Seattle

My wife and I fell in love with this property when we were 18 years old and were fortunate enough that when it came available for purchase 12 years later, we were able to buy it. Now we couldn't imagine living anywhere else!

What makes this house unique

Almost daily we find the eagles in the tree outside the window. Harbor seals pass by and salmon jump in the summer. The wildlife and marine activity provide a constant stream of entertainment. One block away is the wonderful night life Alki has to offer. Within a flat 6 blocks walk along the beach there are 20 plus restaurants. The home overlooks the #3 diving hole along Alki, with the #1, next to Salty’s, and the #2 dive hole beside the fishing pier. Divers are welcome! Enjoy the outdoor hot and cold shower to clean off gear, or just the sand off your feet. Soak in the hot tub while you enjoy the sight of The Seattle Space Needle & the Washington Ferry traffic and the Argosy research vessels that tie up in front of the house for an afternoon of lessons. Divers are always coming and going in front of the house. Watch for the night lights.

It was a great week

  • 5 of 5

OK, we got lucky. We had some of the best weather Seattle has to offer. Great days, very little rain. And the location of this place made all the difference! It's right across from the beach. We were able to get out and about and explore right from the house. Lots of places to eat right down the street. The house was great, everything went smooth. We had a couple of questions and they were quickly answered or take care of. Dylan was a great host.

Place was exactly as it was from last year. This the second year in a row we have stayed here and made our stay great. So much easier for the grandkids and us staying here.

Very Nice property - great location

  • 5 of 5

Great property, well maintained. Great communication with owner, we had to slide our reservation a few days at the last minute, good news - no problem, bad news there was a per day change fee. Probably in the fine print somewhere. Aliki beach area was wonderful. The only downside to the trip, which is no way a reflection on this property rental, is Salty's at Aliki was a bit of a disappointment - we are fans of Salty's on the Columbia in Portland. The Aliki folks could take some lessons from the Columbia crew.

Great family get together

  • 5 of 5

We were very happy with our stay. Dylan (on very short notice) graciously picked up two of our party of three sisters and 85 year old mother from the airport. The property was immaculate and we'll furnished. The 3 bedrooms allowed each of us to have our own comfortable bed. The kitchen was well stocked with cooking utensils, pots and pans. The living area was great, we all wanted to take home the chaise lounge! The on street parking was only a few steps away and made easy for Mom to get to the car, and for luggage hauling. The view was lovely, even allowing for overcast skies. We enjoyed watching the ships and ferries. There are several dining options within walking distance and shopping and other dining options within a short driving distance. We would definitely do a repeat stay and can strongly recommend as a great place to stay in Seattle.

The property is wonderful...the property manager is misguided about VRBO star ratings

  • 1 of 5

A phone charger was left behind when we rented this home in late September. I called the owner the day after returning home; he found the charger in the back bedroom and said he'd mail it no problem, which was greatly appreciated. I wrote and submitted a review for the house when prompted by VRBO with a rating of "Average" or three stars. It passed the review cycle and posted. Having not yet received the charger, I called the owner and was told that unless I pull my review or change the rating to five star (since he has, "never had less than a five star review") it would not be returned. He added the contract stated any items left behind can be disposed of by the owner at their discretion. Meaning Mr. Redit will dispose of personal property if I do not take the actions he has required of me and change the review to benefit him.

The original review called out a few items travelers may be interested to know:

This house is located on a main street meaning cars coming and going and folks walking by. No worries, since foot traffic in the area is common. The hot tub is in the front courtyard of the house, so expect the company of strangers (we never used it).

The bedroom furnishing are a bit outdated but comfy, with the exception of a few pancake flat pillows. The floor of the shower stall in the back master bedroom is giving way. It's not there in the photos posted here of the unit, but a black/dark brown putty has been used to..."plug" a soft spot (covered over with a green pebble foot mat) that sinks under your feet.

The last morning of our stay we had no hot water. Turns out there's an "instant hot water" switch on the heater. We had no issues with five daily showers, load of laundry, and running the dishwasher twice over three days, but on that day we needed to flick that switch (take note, as this is not mentioned in the thick house binder).

The house dog is a bull mastiff (the binder says) and a sweet girl but be forewarned there's no complete fence and she wanders. A house cat wanders the yard as well. Privacy is a bit lacking as there is a second rental space cut out of the house so expect some noise with shared walls, floors, and ceilings, and people activity around the property.

The location is choice, across the street from Alki Beach - and as I wrote my original review the "sweet spot" - and overall amenities perfectly fine. But I would not rent (or recommend) the property again, due to the managers actions.

Owner's Response: I am not misguided about the VRBO star rating. My dog never wondered into the court yard, she has now passed. When you called me about the charger I found it and was happy to return it to you. You said you had a great time and was writing a review. I received the 3 star review the next day and its true the return of you $5 charger became less important. To be fair, I had a lot to do and I did space it out, but I still intended to return it. When I received your call about if I had returned it I was in the hospital with my mother in law who had an incident, I told you that I would return the charger but then for some reason you got very mad that it had not been done. Yes I asked you, why I got a 3 star while you were yelling at me and your reply was hostile, continuos and loud enough for several people around to hear. I repeated 3 times I was in the hospital, can I call you back. You continued your rant until I decided you were not my type of people and your $5 charger that you were now demanding back I was done with you and it. So yes, I told you that and that is that... I would be happy to add, if you want me to do more then provide you a wonderful place to stay on the beach and you demand and yell at me, Please don't come to my home, people like you are NOT welcome, ask me nicely and I would bet you will get me to do just about anything to make your stay enjoyable. I am sorry to the rest to read this dirty laundry but i promise if you ask me kindly, I am happy to help you anyway I can. I have had a wonderful time meeting great people, that is why I am still here.
