Overview

Cape Cod Cottage Rental Photos and Description

1 bedroom, 1 full bath, 1 outdoor shower, sleeps 2 comfortably, 3 maximum

The Studio Cottage is located on a sand road in Wellfleet's Pond District, an area of more than a half dozen pristine, clear, freshwater ponds with white sand bottoms within a 2 mile radius. The ocean beaches are about 2 miles to the east and the village center and Wellfleet Harbor about a mile to the west. It's an easy walk or bike ride to the town center which is a great advantage during summer traffic jams and Oysterfest parking challenges.

The cottage sits in a sunny spot in the pine and oak Wellfleet woods. Formerly an artist and writers studio, converted by the artist into a fully heated, year round charming one bedroom house. Downstairs is a large open space with living, dining and kitchen areas, and a full modern bathroom with shower. The many south facing windows and the cathedral ceiling give the room a light and airy feel. Upstairs you'll find a queen size bed in a room that feels like it's up in the trees, with 20 windows looking into the upper level of the surrounding forest. Bedside tables and lamps, bureau, large closet, ceiling fan, air conditioning, floor to ceiling curtains. An elegant retreat.

A short walk from the parking area down a winding path, worn through to white sand, through the woods--the approach a pleasure in itself--you arrive at a small grey -shingled building with its own terrace surrounded in season with shrubs and flowers and sculpture, highlighted by a fountain by a local artist. Cafe table with umbrella, small herb garden, Webber charcoal grill ... all you need is fresh fish from the local market.

The Studio features:

~ living room area with double futon sofa, flat screen HDTV and DVD in its own cabinet, ipod and iphone dock/radio, coat closet.

~ a separate, spacious second floor bedroom with queen-sized bed with high quality all natural latex foam mattress (allergy and bedbug resistant), 4-speed ceiling fan, new, quiet room air conditioner, large closet, bedside lamps and tables and a window array framing a view of the woods.

~ an elegant contemporary bathroom featuring a sensuous, curved molded concrete counter-top with built in sink, by Derek Oliver, local sculptor and all glass enclosed shower.

~ high thread count sheets and feather or fiber pillows, and fluffy bath towels, dish towels and beach towels included.

~ complete and ultra efficient kitchen well equipped for cooking at home with good quality pots and pans, dishes, flatware and appliances. Good lighting.

~ an intimate outdoor shower looking into the woods

~ carefully chosen original art or art prints

~ high speed wireless internet and cable TV; DVD player

~clock radio upstairs, radio/ipod dock downstairs

~ washing machine (summer only) and clothes line

The Studio is your own private, intimate little hideaway with its own perspective on this beautiful town. A world unto itself but only a 15-20 minute walk to downtown.

Walk up the path through the woods to the parking area and wander down the sandy road to the nearest freshwater pond, an easy 10 minute walk. Or venture into the village center, only a mile in the other direction for muffins and fabulous omelets at the Wicked Oyster or clam chowder at the Bookstore Restaurant, see what's happening at the library or Preservation Hall, visit some of the many art galleries that Wellfleet is known for, take in a show at the Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theater (WHAT) or the new Harbor Stage Company, rent a sailboat or play tennis at the harbor, play golf at the seaside country club or just set up your chair on a beach and relax with a good book. From the Studio Cottage you can easily follow paths and wooded lanes that lead to secluded ponds not accessible by car, ride your bike into the village or drive to Provincetown for a whale watch cruise or some hot night life. So much to do, so easy to do it, and no reason whatsoever to do any of it if what you really want to do is nothing at all.

Beautiful cottage among the pines

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was well-appointed and comfortable, with everything you could need. The garden and surrounding area of the cottage is absolutely beautiful – somewhere to relax and watch the humming birds and chipmunks! Susan was an excellent host and although she and her husband live on the same plot as the cottage, they have designed it really well so that it feels very private. The bedroom is particularly delightful as you wake up to the sights and sounds of the trees through the many windows.

Located in woods, off a sandy road, the location could not be more peaceful. Despite it's seclusion, everything is just a short drive away and whilst there are restaurants within walking distance, pavements are a bit sporadic, so it's not always ideal to walk. There are plenty of walking trails through the woods to reach the ponds and beaches but you need good navigational aids! The area is very nice to cycle, with driving speed limits (off the main Route 6) being 25mph. The beaches and freshwater ponds are stunning and, at the time of our visit (mid June), not crowded atall. When we arrived, we had plans to visit some other cape towns and also Nantucket, but within a couple of days we realised that there was so much to enjoy in the local area there was no need to go elsewhere! The town of Wellfleet is very pretty with lots of eating options, however do stock-up before you get to this part of the Cape as the local grocery stores are expensive. That said, fresh fish from Mac's Market was very reasonable compared to UK prices.

All-in-all a fantastic property if you like beautiful natural places, and If we're ever lucky enough to visit Cape Cod again, we would return to this cottage without hesitation.

Lovely cottage in quiet, private setting, far away from traffic on Route 6. Easy access to beaches, ponds and Wellfleet. Beautifully maintained flower garden. Cottage had everything we needed in it.

A lovely spot in the woods

  • 5 of 5

This is a delightful, cozy little cottage nestled in the woods at the end of a sand and pine needle strewn path. We had lousy weather most of the week so spent a lot of time inside playing games, reading and sleeping - so it got a lot of use.

a wonderful cottage in the woods

  • 5 of 5

The property felt like home. The cottage was clean, nicely appointed, and we had everything we needed. There was more than ample space to store all our belongings. We were especially pleased with the comfort of the bed, the abundance of windows and the availability of a quiet air-conditioning unit for the 2 evenings that we needed it. The location is ideal - it is near all the beaches and ponds as well as the center of town. We biked or walked everywhere and barely used the car. The owner is pleasant and helpful, and we felt well taken care of. This cottage is one of tne of the best properties I have rented in my many years coming to the Cape. We will definitely return.

Beautiful, secluded cottage in Wellfleet!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed in this cottage in early June 2013. The cottage is located just outside of downtown Wellfleet and is also a short (5 minute) drive to the beach. It's the perfect location and is nicely secluded yet it is only about 20 minutes from Provincetown. There are many great restaurants near by, and we really liked PJs because of the casual atmosphere and great food.

The cottage itself was clean and well kept, and we were even greeted with fresh flowers upon arrival. It comes with everything you could need (towels, sheets, pillows, all the kitchen supplies) and the only thing you really need to bring is food, charcoal, and a nice bottle of wine to enjoy on the patio. The owner (Susan) was very accommodating and provided us with a wealth of information about the area, including a guide to Wellfleet from the local chamber of commerce.

Wellfleet itself is a small town, but it is filled with great art galleries and restaurants. You can get fresh seafood right out of the water at the harbor. We would recommend walking around Wellfleet and investigating all the art galleries and shops, but beware not every street has a sidewalk.

Our favorite activity while staying in Cape Cod was Whale Watching in Provincetown, but we also enjoyed the beautiful scenery and wildlife at the Wellfleet Wildlife Sanctuary located just off route 6.

We loved the cottage and if we are ever in Cape Cod again, we would stay here.

Sand roads lead to several fresh water ponds where you can frequently find yourself the only swimmer before 10:00 in the morning, the nearest one a ten minute walk.

Stay out of summer traffic: walk or bike to swimming, restaurants, tennis and shopping or along sand roads and trails to hidden ponds and beach overlooks. Ride on the fully paved Cape Cod Rail Trail which stretches 22 miles. Professional theater, fine dining, and superior art galleries make Wellfleet a destination for more than just the pristine beaches of the Cape Cod National Seashore and the seaside sports and activities that you can always find here: sailing, kayaking, fishing, motor boating. Let's not forget tennis, golf, a country club, the Audubon sanctuary, playgrounds, recreation programs for the kids, digging for clams... And Provincetown is only 15 minutes away with its magnificent dunes, whale watch excursions, nightlife, restaurants, entertainment and shopping.
