Labor Day

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at The Mountain Solace Lodge. The house was very nice and very clean. Great location, just minutes from Fort Tuthill.

Mountain of Disappointment

  • 2 of 5

When we arrived, it was hot. The house does not have air conditioning. Some windows were stuck open; others were stuck shut. The central fan was not functioning. Management brought over new batteries. We could not feel an improvement with the central fan on, maybe because the vents were grimy. Other vents, such as the exhaust vent over the master toilet, were also very dirty.

There is no screen on the sliding door. We estimated there were 30-50 flying insects in the house when we arrived. Management did respond & arrived with a fly swatter & bug spray (same visit as bringing the batteries). After a day or so of only using screened, functioning windows & ceiling fans for ventilation, the flying insects did subside. That’s when the ants showed up. Hundreds of them. This time, Management (John) was unresponsive to our emails. After a few days & buying ant traps, we contacted John’s assistant & she responded quickly, bringing more ant traps. Most of the black ants were in the kitchen, but there were also hundreds of smaller ants by the master bathroom shower & on the stair wall.

In the kitchen, the rinse aid dispenser was broken. The faceplate of a cabinet hung off. The light for the fridge water filter indicated that it needed to be changed. The ice dispenser was not functioning. The lid of the trash can was broken. Dish towels had holes in them. Dishes were cracked or chipped. A skillet was coated with grime. The garbage disposal backed up & we had to plunge it.

Most of the furniture in the house is heavily damaged or soiled. The recliner & two of the couches in the loft are torn; the sofas downstairs are filthy. The bar stool cushions are filthy. The kitchen table has scratches & damage. Some walls are damaged or have incomplete fixes. The carpets are stained & dirty. A toilet seat is badly scratched. The wood on the loft railing is very dusty, as are the ceiling fans, the tops of the cabinets & the windows.

Wires hang from the ceiling where a smoke detector should be. Several light bulbs were burnt out or missing. At least one bathtub drains slowly; another one doesn’t hold water well. A sink drips constantly. There were supposed to be video games; the cases were empty. The internet is very slow & the equipment is antiquated. The front door deadbolt doesn’t line up properly. Management did eventually respond to our complaints & gave a partial refund. House has potential but current condition is far from luxurious.

Excellent house for our extended family

  • 5 of 5

July 2016: As described, we found the house to be perfect for our family of 11 over 4 nights with lots of room on 2 levels. Everything was clean and properly maintained. We had easy communication with the owner/agent. The 5 bedrooms were all good sized, especially the master suite on the main floor. There was plenty of furniture in the great room, appliances in kitchen and towels/bedding. We did not miss air conditioning, thanks to ceiling fans and cool nights. Our local activities included the Flagstaff Aquatic Center, Lowell Observatory, Bearizona Zoo, Sedona Pink Jeep tour and downtown Flagstaff restaurants. I would highly recommend this to my friends. Great escape for extended family.

Nice Place for a Family Vacation

  • 4 of 5

Mountain Solace Lodge is a large house with plenty of room to spread out. Well equipped kitchen made it easy to prepare meals and helpful to also have a bar-b-que. However, the back yard is basically dirt. There's a hot tub and nice patio furniture. The beds were comfortable and it was nice to have ceiling fans in the bedrooms. The bathrooms were very nice. However, there were some issues. One of the Atari controls didn't work making it impossible to use. They had cleaned up the property's exterior prior to our arrival but the large quantity of trash bags were at the curb when we arrived and were still there when we left a week later. The house is next to the forest which made for a lovely outdoor environment. The house shows some wear and tear but it is certainly more than adequate in what it has to offer. Shopping, restaurants and sightseeing are all close by. We visited the Grand Canyon, Bearzona and Lowell Observatory. All in all, we had a really nice family get-a-way.

Family Getaway

  • 5 of 5

My family and I spent a couple of days at the Mountain Solace Lodge and we had a wonderful time. The house has everything you could possibly need for a great vacation. The bedrooms are very well appointed with really comfortable mattresses and the kitchen is very well equipped with everything necessary to make great meals. There was plenty of room for all of us to really enjoy a short getaway, not being crowded in a hotel room. Our dog enjoyed playing in the backyard, being able to bring him along made our trip complete. John is great to work with and quickly responds to any questions or needs that may come up. We would definitely stay here again. Thank you John!!

Nice for a large family get together

  • 4 of 5

This home is in a lovely and safe neighborhood. Only 5 minutes from NAU and historic downtown. All 5 bedrooms were comfortable. All four bathrooms have bath and shower. Each bathroom was also equipped with hand soap, bath tissue and body wash and shampoo. Only the 1st master bedroom has their own tv. Lots of storage space, plus room for a car and storage in the garage. The great room is very comfortable. There are patio tables and chairs in the back "yard" which came in handy as we hosted a dinner for 25 and definitely needed the additional seating. The upstairs has some games and an additional tv.

NOW THE NEGATIVES. The area rugs could use a good cleaning or replaced, as they are dirty and one curls up on the edge. The carpets in general need a good cleaning. The towels are what you may find at goodwill. Nothing matches and some are thread bare. Kitchen is very disorganized with items thrown wherever... For a house that houses 10 plus guests, they are short on glasses, coffee mugs, bowls...really...not too expensive of a fix for those things. I purchased a platter for dinners as there is not one in the house. We had a couple issues with ants in the great room and garage, so be watchful.

My big issue was the trash cans in the garage had not been emptied in, well, several weeks. We had no where to put our trash when we left, only to stack it carefully on top. Pretty gross.

These things will all become mute when you get going and enjoy your company!!
