If repeat guests are the true measure of a successful vacation rental property, Lanikai Cottage has hit the mark! Staying in a private, detached dwelling enhances the Lanikai experience, especially when compared to attached studios and rooms within a private home. In fact it is one of the few licensed vacation rentals in Lanikai, of which there are only 15, and is the only one which is a completely separate structure from the owner's residence. License # 90/TVU-0325 / Tax Registration ID #W40713010-01.
Located in the world famous beach community of Lanikai, in the town of Kailua, on the island of Oahu, Hawaii, there are two highly rated beaches within minutes. Lanikai Beach is a five minute walk from the cottage. Kailua Beach Park is a three minute drive away. Over the years, Kailua and Lanikai beaches have been given numerous accolades. Lanikai's include best sunrise in Hawaii and most scenic beach in America. The Mokulua Islands off shore from Lanikai have been included in numerous advertisements and movies. You can kayak out to them and explore the island on the left. You can also hike up the ridgeline behind Lanikai for scenic vistas in all directions. Kailua Beach has been chosen as the best sports beach in America numerous times. In fact, the town of Kailua was chosen as one of the top five spots in America for a permanent vacation! Between these natural attractions and the comfort of the Cottage, the majority of our guests return or refer others.
The cottage is a Hawaiian-style beach house with a lanai (deck) on the back for outdoor meals and barbecuing. The glass doors that separate the living room from the lanai slide back into a pocket creating an 8' wide opening. The one bedroom, one bathroom interior also has a living area with a bar-top dining area with stools. The hardwood floor is covered with an area carpet. The wall mounted 18,000 BTU Air Conditioner cools the entire cottage for night time sleep comfort. The bathroom has a glass shower enclosure, toilet, sink, small closet, and shelves. There is a reserved parking spot in the yard. The cottage has its own washer and dryer for your exclusive use.
We have lived in Kailua for over 24 years and in Lanikai for the past 18 years. We have hosted guests from all over the world in Lanikai Cottage, and especially enjoy our repeat guests.

Lanikai is an amazing community! It's a peaceful, low-key neighborhood with so much to offer. Of course there are all the ocean sports and the beauty of the Mokulua Islands off-shore. There is hiking up the Lanikai ridge to see the WWII pillboxes plus the awesome 360 degree view of the Windward side of Oahu. There is always just walking or biking around the Lanikai loop.
Lanikai Cottage is on the quiet southern end of Lanikai loop. It is a short walk to gorgeous Lanikai Beach. You can also enjoy hiking the Lanikai ridge to the WWII pillboxes, walking around Lanikai loop, or just relaxing in the hammock for a mid-day snooze or some evening star-gazing!
Aloha, we realized that because we had just subscribed to this guestbook service that it would look rather barren unless we added hand written comments from the book which resides in the cottage. So, here are a few...
"What a cute place, so relaxing...just what we needed. We felt so at home. Allison and Mike, you two, and this cottage, are pure class! :-)"
"We totally enjoyed your comfortable cottage - it's fresh from the pages of Country Living. Thanks for being there when we needed you."
"We had a perfect Spring Break from all of the pressures of work and family. The cottage provided a special retreat for us...so much nicer than staying at a large, impersonal hotel."
The cottage was roomy and comfortable. Everything we needed for the beach was there. The Pillbox hike, Motu islands, Lanikai and Kailua beaches and plenty of places to eat were nearby. The owner was very helpful and gave us plenty of privacy. I look forward to returning for another visit and would highly recommend staying here.

Enjoyed the property and the location!!!! Lanikai is one of our favorite places on Oahu.
This charming place was great! It sits on a large property with the owners main house behind it. We had tons of privacy from the street (big wall) and the main house (lots of landscaping and tropical foliage). Enough parking for two next to the cottage (tested this out with my huge Dodge Ram and when my girlfriend and daughter came to visit from across the island with her tiny Nissan Versa).
The owner was really sweet gave us our privacy, but came to say hi as we were pulling in one day. She even promptly dropped off a tool (discretely, like a ninja) for me to fix the gas grill. Cottage is clean and tidy, kitchen has no stove but two hot plates, bathroom is clean and in nice shape, and the futon folded down so that I could sleep in the living room while mom had the one bedroom.
Allison provided beach chairs, snorkel masks, toys for my little girl, boogey boards, full laundry center with soap, tons of books and games, and even a single and a two man kayak if you are up to it!
The part of the beach that this home is near didn't have much sand (high tide, erosion?), but it's not too far down to walk or go for a quick ride to the main Lanikai beach. Views from this side of Lanikai beach were still amazing!
Overall mom and I loved this beautiful clean cottage! We would definitely come back!
We thoroughly enjoyed our 11 night stay in Lanikai. The cottage is well equipped, comfortable and a short walk from a beautiful beach (perfect most days for even small children to swim in). It can sleep 4, best for a family with small children as 2 of the sleeping spots are on the futon that doubles as a sofa for the kitchen/living area. While the cottage is steps away from the main house, we felt we had amply privacy. We enjoyed the Kailua area and found it convenient for exploring the island, especially the greater Honolulu area.
We are so glad we chose Lanikai Cottage as our home base during the Oahu leg of our honeymoon! We spent four nights here and did not want to leave! We loved the cute and quiet neighborhood and were SO glad we chose to stay here and not in Waikiki-it really helped create a peaceful and private vacation atmosphere. We arrived in the dark and I will never forgot waking up with the sun and taking in my first glimpse of Hawaii in daylight, with all the birds singing, rustling palms around the lanai, mountains rising up behind town, and the short walk to our first view of the Pacific! The cottage provided us everything we needed. Thank you! We can only hope to return someday!
I like to be objective in my reviews. We stay at B&Bs and guest cottages all over the world so feel we have criteria to compare . There were things which were great about this property but things we would definitely like to see improved. The location was great. We loved it. The beach is about three blocks away. It's necessary to drive if you are taking chairs etc with you. If you are not carrying anything with you then you can walk. The beach when you do get there is absolutely beautiful. The beach is not just a few steps from the cottage as indicated in the description of the cottage. There is a beach close by but it's water hitting against a wall...no beach. The town is nice and not too large with a few nice places to dine. Plus, there is a nice park and a beautiful beach there too. The cottage AC did not cool enough for us but we were there in Sept and it was very hot. The cottage is much smaller than it looks in the photos but is nice. It's only suitable for two. There needs to be a shade or blind on the front door of the cottage. The throw pillows on the futon , chair and bed take up too much room in a small space...get rid of them. They are not necessary. The cottage was clean except there was mildew in the shower. The bathroom needs a little updating. The nice green towels had large bleach spots on them. Plus, there is no covering on the bath window and this faces the windows of another house which is rather disconcerting....put a cover on the bath window. One thing we really didn't like was that the last full day we were there the mowers came in and were there several hours when we really wanted to relax. The lawn is very small so it seemed unnecessary that the mowing went on for so long, probably three hours when it could have been in an hour. I would recommend the cottage but hope the owners would make a few inexpensive changes....get rid of the throw pillows, covers for privacy for the front door and the bath window. Also, mow the day occupants leave in the time frame before another occupant arrives instead of when occupants are trying to relax inside the cottage. I would stay here again.
