Find shells, watch for porpoises and swim in the clear blue waters of the gulf. It's a short drive to several great golf courses, or shopping in gulf shores and the Foley (tanger) outlet centers. At the west end of the pleasure island peninsula are the remains of Fort Morgan. One of the two forts that protected mobile during the battle of mobile bay, the fort dates from 1812. After touring the fort, there are opportunities to stroll the white beaches, swim, fish or crab, shell hunt, and sunbathe. This spot is a favorite with birdwatchers, who have been known to make rare sightings of migratory birds. A marina, golf course, and extra lodging are all nearby.

Recreate among endangered species and migratory birds. Over 4,000 acres of beach dunes, scrub dunes, fresh water marsh, salt water marsh, and maritime forest make up the Bon Secour national wildlife refuge just west of gulf shores. This coastal refuge is part of the central gulf ecosystem unit part of the migration route of the monarch butterfly, the refuge is also known for its more than 120 species of birds - making it a paradise for bird watchers. Along with birding, the refuge offers opportunities for hiking, swimming, photography, collecting sea shells, and boating. Fishermen enjoy both fresh and saltwater fishing.

Ride the auto ferry to dauphin island for a tour of the sea lab and historic Fort Gaines. Bird-watching and sunbathing are two of the favorite activities on this island paradise. A campground and hiking trail are part of the sanctuary, giving visitors opportunities to spend time observing the neotropical migrant birds and native wildflowers. In the spring, the park is visited by bird lovers anxious to view the annual bird migration.

Best vacation ever

  • 5 of 5

We had an amazing stay at this house, it was very nice, clean and even had beach chairs, nets and boards for us to use. Very close walk to the beach and never was crowded. We will definitely be going back next year and I plan to stay in one of her three houses for sure!

Great family getaway

Great location. The house had everything we needed and is in a nice quiet area away from the crowds. Clean and cute and ready the moment we walked it. We'd do it again tomorrow!

Quiet family get away

  • 5 of 5

We loved the property. We traveled with our kids and 2 dogs. Just a few houses away from the beach, so not a bad walk at all. Beach is pet friendly which was perfect for us. Only issue with the property, which is out of the control of property owner, is that it had rained a few days before we got there and there was standing water in the street that was then all over the drive way of our property and the one across from us which made the drive just a mess. There is parking under the house but not for any over-sized vehicles. A table on the the porch would be nice. There was a picnic table under neath the house but not convenient. The beach is very quiet, not to busy with all the spring breakers, but just a short drive to get to all the hustle and bustle of Orange beach. Nice couple of restaurants and grocery stores near by. Neat visiting the historic Fort Morgan.

Great Vacation

  • 5 of 5

We had a great vacation. The house is a short walk to the beach. It is stocked with everything we needed. Everything was clean and well kept. We were really glad to have a washer and dryer.

Fort Morgan is a really nice beach, not too crowded and dog friendly. The owner provided beach toys, boogie boards and beach chairs. We did have to go to Walmart for a canopy, but it is an easy drive. The kids loved the beach, this was one of their favorite vacations. We hope to return next year.

Met Basic Needs

  • 3 of 5

The home is cute and met our basic needs. However, it is in desperate need of a deep cleaning. The ceiling fans, toaster oven, oven and dresser drawers were disgusting and our sheets and pillows were COVERED in animal hair. This was noticed as we started making the beds. I washed everything, including the pillows before we used them. The dishwasher was full of dishes and I didnt know if they were clean or dirty and I couldnt find any dishwasher tablets so I left them and we used paper plates/cups. The proximity to the beach was nice. The construction next door was a pain and noisy throughout the day which made it difficult for the kids to nap. Overall the place is cute and has potential but I would recommend Destin, Pensacola, or Panama City Beach over this area. The oil rigs in the water aren't pretty to look at and the beach isn't that clean.

Owner's Response: I take great pride in my homes being clean. I request guest to notify me immediately upon arrival if there are any problems. This is stated on the contract as well as on a note at the home. This way I can notify a cleaning person so the guest will not have to clean something that was left unclean by previous cleaners.I am unable to correct problems that I am unaware of.

Excellent Ft Morgan Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I chose to come to Ft. Morgan due to the dog friendly nature of the beaches and rentals. After a lot of searching, we settled on Cheryle's property.

After spending nearly a week there, we are so glad we went with this house. It was excellent when it comes to everything; great amenities, abundance of beach chairs and other beach "tools." The location was perfect; it's a few houses back from the beach, but no more than a 30 second walk. It's also a 30 second walk in the other direction to cross the road and be on the bay side.

We look forward to coming back again in the future!

A place of history, leisure and nature, the Fort Morgan peninsula extends like a long finger west of Gulf Shores, Alabama. If you're looking to get away from crowded beach bars and tacky souvenir shops, this section of the Alabama Gulf Coast is a good option. Much of the peninsula is part of a protected wildlife refuge, but many beachfront accommodations are available. You may have to drive to Gulf Shores to pick up major supplies, but it's well worth that small hassle to experience these pristine, sparkling sugar-white sands on your beach vacation.
