Acadia Sunset Seaside Cottage offers you an opportunity to sample Acadia National Park, lobster, chowder, dining out, boating, sailing, canoeing, kayaking, ocean and freshwater swimming, hiking, walking, bicycling, blueberry picking, birding, garden touring, shopping in quaint boutiques, and more -- or to just get some quiet relaxation and reading time in your cozy oceanfront cottage. Acadia Sunset Seaside Cottage is a 3-bedroom, 3-bath house right on the water with your own access to a private stretch of shore. It has a game room, reading room, and relaxing, screened-in porch in addition to living, kitchen, and dining rooms. It is well suited to accommodate multiple generations or a small group of friends, where you can both enjoy common rooms and preserve your privacy.

You can enjoy any of several cozy nooks to settle in with a good book. Or play ping pong with friends or family on a day at home. You are surrounded by gorgeous sunsets that you can enjoy in your private screened-in porch every evening. And you are steps away from your own private stretch of beach, where you can put in a canoe or kayak, beach comb for shells and sea treasures, or simply enjoy the view out to Maine's famous island-dotted shore, with the Nature Conservancy's Placentia Island in the distance, and Swan's Island just beyond. Every room has a water view and en suite bath. You are less than five minutes' drive from the Acadia National Park trails called Wonderland and Ship's Harbor, which bring you out to gorgeous rocky bluffs along the open ocean and Maine's famous rocky coast. A minute more and you're at Bass Harbor Head Light, the most photographed lighthouse on the U.S. East Coast. In five minutes you’re in Southwest Harbor with ample opportunities for shopping, dining, and boating; in two more minutes you’re hiking Acadia Mountain or swimming in Echo Lake; and in ten minutes you're in Bar Harbor, with its quaint shops, restaurants, whale watching, naturalist boating, sailing, deep-sea diving, Park tours, and many other opportunities.

Few locations in the United States can compare to the beauty and diversity of Mt. Desert Island (MDI) and Acadia National Park. Acadia National Park and its famous gateway towns are treasured the world over as some of the most beautiful spots “where the mountains meet the sea.” Ocean, lakes, mountains, miles and miles of hiking trails, dedicated bicycling and walking trails, gorgeous countryside, and the towns of Tremont, Southwest Harbor, Northeast Harbor, and Bar Harbor provide unlimited opportunities for relaxation and recreation. Come for some much-needed rest, relaxation, and rejuvenation at Acadia Sunset Seaside Cottage!

About Joy & Peter Cutrone

We are experienced travel hosts, being former innkeepers and now rental cottage owners. We both grew up in the Northeast United States, and have traveled extensively throughout the US and Europe as well as Down Under. We enjoy quality accommodations when we travel, appreciate the extra thoughtfulness that can make a stay more pleasant, and strive to give that experience to our guests.

Joy & Peter Cutrone purchased this cottage in 1999

Why Joy & Peter Cutrone chose Bar Harbor and Mount Desert Island

Acadia Seaside Cottages are family-run vacation rental properties. We have capitalized on Peter's years of experience as an innkeeper in New England and our shared love of travel to bring you a warm cottage experience in one of America's most beautiful National Parks. An oceanfront setting, the comforts and conveniences of home, and access to a greater range of activities than you can possibly pursue in a weeks’ time combine to give you a vacation experience that you’ll treasure for years to come.

What makes this cottage unique

Acadia Seaside Cottages are convenient to all that Acadia has to offer, without being directly in the hustle and bustle of a summer seaside resort. You are directly on the water, and can enjoy ocean views under a spectacular sunset, explore the beach, or explore the Park at your leisure.

Guestbook comments from the manager

We had an absolutely marvelous time. The cottage was perfect for us. It was a place we could have stayed longer and just sat on the porch and vegetated. The sunsets were beautiful and were enjoyed from the porch. We saw many sights but was always glad to return to the cottage. Thank you for providing such a wonderful place.

Private, peaceful and very clean!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great week at the cottage! It was spotless and well stocked with fresh towels and paper products. Peter and Joy have thought of everything. If you forgot to bring something, you can probably find it in the cottage! The beds were very comfortable. We had 3 couples in our group and each of us had our own bathroom. That was great! The upper level bedroom with the double bed has a gorgeous view to wake up to. It was great to have a washer and dryer available to use. We really appreciated the entirely screened in porch.

Peter and Joy were easily accessible and responded to emails quickly. The binder that they provided with information about the cottage and the area was very useful to us. We appreciated their recommendations of the good restaurants in the area.

Everyday we drove over to the Acadia National Park/Bar Harbor area. We went on a Whale Watch tour, a Lighthouse tour, and we hiked and biked. It's a beautiful place!

Quiet and peaceful!

  • 5 of 5

We recently returned from renting this cottage on the quiet side. Each morning the fog would roll in and out. It was interesting to see how much the tide went out after a morning of kayaking. Beware-it is like 25 steps straight down to the water. We were easily able to maneuver the boats down and up with some effort! In the evening we would sit on the porch and watch the sun set over the water. The screened in porch was a blessing as the mosquitoes were huge! The cottage has everything you need. If you are cooking for a large crowd you may think about bringing an extra non stick frypan. There are several very small ones. The others, the food really sticks. We had plenty of bath towels, starter paper towels as well as toilet paper. It was easy to travel to the busy Bar Harbor side in under 30 minutes. There is grocery, liquor, and restaurants all close as well as some nice hikes. We definitely would book again if we decide to return to the area. Joy and Peter were very easy to deal with and accommodating. They respond quickly and can give many suggestions about what is local.

Owner's Response: Thank you, Lynda! We're so glad you enjoyed the cottage amenities. (Those nonstick pans seem to be an annual consumable - we'll keep replacing them!) We really appreciate your sharing your experience and glad those local tips helped you enjoy your stay! Welcome back any time. - Thanks, Joy & Peter

A Great Week!

  • 5 of 5

While we went to Maine to see family, hike and enjoy the activities from the area, the house was great to come home to. We really enjoyed picking shells and kayaking in Duck Cove. The house had everything we needed for a comfortable stay and our favorite was the ping pong tournaments! Thanks Peter and Joy for making your house available to rent. We will be back!

Adorable house, perfect for a family of 5-6.

  • 4 of 5

This was our first visit to Bar Harbor so had no idea of location of home versus activity during our vacation. Unfortunately the weather was not favorable during our stay, cloudy & rainy, so we did not get to experience the view & sunsets that the house is known for, as others mentioned. We traveled with grandparents and our 15 year old son. The 1st floor bedroom was perfect for the grandparents, and although the twin bed was a bit small for my 6'2" son, it would be perfect for younger kids, assuming two in family. The house was completely stocked with plenty of towels, supplies (dish soap/paper towels/toilet paper, etc). The showers did not have soap or shampoo so be certain to bring with you. The house was a bit far from Bar Harbor and if we return we will probably stay closer to the Park and town. If you plan to spend a lot of time in Acadia National Park the house is in a good location.

Owner's Response: Thank you for sharing your experience, Chrissa. Too bad you had some rain; Wonderland, Ship Harbor, and Bass Harbor Head Light inside the Park are just 5 minutes from the cottage and such great places to explore, with more wonderful views. We do hope you return to explore Acadia! Best, J&P
