About Mary Spencer
Being a huge outdoor enthusiast, I have been visiting the North Georgia Mountains for years. The hiking is incredible, with marked and unmarked trails everywhere. The lakes are beautiful and so serene, plus the fishing is great. The towns of Ellijay and Blue Ridge are adorable and both have tons of great shops and restaurants. Makes it easy to enjoy all that nature has to offer and then be able to sit down at a nice "Mom and Pop" restaurant for some local trout and veggies. I bought my first little log cabin in 2000, which I thoroughly enjoyed with family and friends, so much so that I decided to buy my second one a few years later. Both of my girls grew up playing in the dirt, riding 4 -wheeler, picking blackberries and fishing in the creek. I now bring my 4 year old grand-daughter to the "cabin" so she can also have an opportunity to enjoy this amazing place and make some great memories. I currently own 4 cabins ( all are listed on Homeaway/VRBO) and opened a company in 2010 called Morning Breeze Cabin Rentals, which manages a total of 60 log cabins throughout the Blue Ridge and Ellijay area. I would love for each and every one of you to come on up and experience all that the mountains of Blue Ridge have to offer. A lot has changed since the year 2000, we now have wineries, ziplines, fishing and hiking guides plus fine dining to add to the list of things to do and enjoy while visiting the beautiful mountains of North Georgia.
Why Mary Spencer chose Ellijay
When I first found The Stargazer it was a simple hunting shack consisting of one large room and a loft you couldn't stand in. The owner rarely used it anymore and everyone up on the ridge was afraid to approach him about selling it. As you can see from the pictures, the view is absolutely worth a million dollars and I really wanted that shack. I finally got up the nerve to ask and he said yes but take good care of it. I decided to keep the original structure intact and just add onto it. A nice size wing became the living, kitchen and eating area. I extended the deck which would not have been complete until I added a hot tub, small outdoor fireplace, table for eating and of course rockers. I now had my perfect mountain hideaway.
What makes this Cabin unique
This cabin is located on the second highest privately owned peak in GA. I still remember the first time driving up the gravel, then dirt road, so excited to see what was at the top. The view is truly incredible and I can honestly say that after 10 years of driving up to the top, it still truly takes my breath away.

The most amazing, romantic view ever!
We spent endless hours in the hot tub just gazing out over the mountains. The cabin had everything we needed. The kitchen was well-stocked so we cooked all our meals at the cabin. We thought we'd go into Blue Ridge but ended up just hanging out at the cabin playing football and enjoying the hot tub. This special time with my husband was what we needed. We will be back for our anniversary. Thank you so much!
Thank you Susan for letting us know about your stay at the Stargazer. It truly sounds like you and your husband enjoyed the cabin and all the amenities it offers ( I bet you were playing Foosball, not Football lol) . Please keep the Stargazer in mind for the next time you are visiting the gorgeous North GA Mountains ~ Mary
We had a great time at this cabin. It was clean and had all the amenities one could ask for. Everything was working. It was very cozy and relaxing. We used it as out hub to go in mountain biking trips. I would score my stay a 5 if it had not been for the steep and rocky gravel road we had to use to drive up to the cabin. We were glad to had gone in the pick up truck and not in the regular car. Out regular car would not have made it up there.
Absolutely perfect, loved our stay, the cabin, the porch, the rockers, will most definitely be back.
Everything was fabulous we loved the quaint cabin, just enough room, the view is incredible complete with lightining bugs, hundreds (fireflies) which i haven't seen since i was a kid, we had a blast. Thanks Mary
Sounds like you had an idyllic stay at Stargazer. So glad you enjoyed the great view and the cabin amenities. Thanks for choosing us, we can't wait to have you back! Sincerely - Kim Marie
A nice get away
The first week long vacation my wife and I have taken in 30 yrs, most of the times we had family and friends with us.We just enjoyed doing what we felt like doing.
Glenn, thank you for letting me know about your stay at the Stargazer. A full week away from it all must have been wonderful. Definitely come back and see me again in the future ~ Mary
Just great and relaxing !,,,
Take care of the carpenter bugs! They make a lot of holes in the outsite of the cabin. But the buzzing is no problem. Your caretaker very friendly, he brought us nice home smoked fish. We really had a wonderful week.
Wonderful to hear you had such a nice and relaxing stay at Stargazer. It is easy to decompress with those spectacular mountain views! Yes those carpenter bees are a spring nuisance for sure, thank goodness they only bother the wood! So glad you were able to enjoy some of the smoked fish from the area. Thank you for staying the week with us, it was great to have you visit! - Kim Marie
Great trip, great view, quiet, liked everything about it
I wonder what it's like in the winter? Maybe I'll try it.
Thank you for your great review...so glad to hear you liked everything about Stargazer. Sounds like a great idea to visit in the winter, hopefully with some snowcapped treetops for your view. We look forward to seeing you again! - Sincerely, Kim Marie
Located on the 2nd highest privately owned peak in Georgia, there is hiking from the front door. The scenery is amazing, wildlife abounds and it's very quiet and peaceful. It's about 10 minutes from downtown Ellijay, where there are plenty of antique shops and restaurants and 15 minutes from downtown Blue Ridge. In BR you'll find many upscale boutique shops and fine dining as well as the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway. Lake Blue Ridge is also about 15 minutes away and you can rent boats and jet skies as well as fish. Horse-back riding is 10 minutes away, tubing down the river(s), one location is 10 minutes away the other about 20. Whitewater rafting on the Ocoee is about 30 to 45 minutes away and the Nantahala is about 90. Fishing is everywhere and we are known Internationally for our trout fishing. Amicalola falls is about 15 minutes away and Burt's Pumpkin Farm is the same distance, there's plenty of great trails in the area off of 52W as well as many of the Apple Farms. The beginning of the Appalachian Trail at Springer Mountain is also very close by.
