What a wonderful place for a long weekend with friends!
We absolutely loved this property and will definitely be back! The views are of course, stunning, but the cabin itself was very accommodating. We thoroughly enjoyed that all the bedrooms were designed for adults, and our pups loved the enclosed porch for playtime and sunbathing. The owner, Mary, was very quick to respond to our needs as well, and it certainly felt like we were valued guests.
As far as location: perfect. The long drive was yes, a bit bumpy as most gravel mountain roads are, but the site advertised accurately that any car can make it if you know how to drive! We had a real wheel truck, hybrid car, and car with bald tires all make it just fine. The location was a perfect headquarters for our adventure weekend kayaking/rafting, mountain biking, and hiking. We didn't turn the TV on once and enjoyed the sunrises, sunsets, and stars! Can't wait to go back!
Jaimi, thank you so much for the wonderful review of the Sunset Ridge. It sounds like you found the perfect mountain home for you and your friends....including furry family. I love to hear the many adventures that people have when they stay at my cabin and you definitely hit the highlights of the area. Definitely come back and stay with me again in the future.
Great stay, overall everything was fun and comfortable. We spent a great deal of time sitting outside after the days events.
One noticeable was the visitors downstairs were cold while visitors upstairs were ok.
Mark, thank you for letting me know about your recent stay at the Sunset Ridge, so glad you enjoyed your time there. I will look into the A/C situation, that is the first I have heard about that. Although I will say, typically the cabins are cooler on the lower levels. I do hope it wasn't too uncomfortable for sleeping. Definitely come back and stay with us again soon.
Nice clean cabin
Place was exceptionally clean with nice bedding and sufficient towels. It was a bumpy ride to the location but the touted was repaired while we were there. Not as secluded as I thought it would be. About 6 cabins on the same little dead end. Nice bedroom layout with two bedrooms downstairs for the kids. Should really have a TV in the 4th bedroom. It's about 30 minutes to the grocery store so plan ahead. Personalized visitor guide was a nice touch.
Teresa, thank you for your review of Sunset Ridge. We are glad you enjoyed the cabin and we hope you were able to enjoy the private decks and outdoor fireplace. While there are other cabins along the road, it is not solitary but is more private in its location. The views are spectacular and we are happy to hear you enjoyed the nice linens and that the cleanliness was a plus! Please come back and visit us anytime and let us earn that last star at this or one of our other beautiful cabins in the mountains
Perfect mountain getaway
This cabin is the perfect spot for a quiet, secluded mountain getaway. Well appointed kitchen with all the basics (plus some), comfortable living and sleeping areas, and lots of outdoor deck space for enjoying peaceful views. We’ll definitely visit this cabin again (soon).
Stephen. thank you so much for the wonderful review of the Sunset Ridge. It sounds like you truly enjoyed your vacation there. I hope you had a chance to do some hiking right out the front door. The views up there are incredible and as you mentioned, so peaceful. I would be more then happy to host you again in the future.
A fantastic view in a very quiet location. The view is what is described - wonderful. The cabin is also located at the end of the road so there is little to no traffic. Makes for a very quite location. Porch was wonderful and although we didn’t use it, that outdoor fireplace on the porch would be great the cooler months. Cabin was furnished well and comfortable. There has been several comments regarding the road to the cabin. When we first arrived it was a bit rough, although my mother in-law made it just fine in her Pacifica. While we where there the road was graded and they really smoothed it out and cleaned it up. It is a gravel road, as most of these mountain top roads are. But there are several people living and using this road so I would imagine they keep it maintained often. Loved the view and loved the location. WiFi was great as well (had to work a bit while we were there). We’ve been to a few mountaintop cabins and this view is in our top 5 views. (And this access road was not the worst we’ve encountered either).
Henry, thank you so much for the wonderful review of the Sunset Ridge. I am so happy to hear you enjoyed your week long stay and got some peace and quiet up there on the mountain. It truly is a beautiful setting and a perfect spot to just kick back and relax. I also appreciate your comment on the road not being that bad. It is definitely heading in an upward direction and as stated, it's dirt and gravel but people drive up and down it all the time with no issues. I do hope you have an opportunity to come back and stay with us again in the future. Have a wonderful day ~ Mary
This cabin is very lovely; the decor is really nice. Some stunning views!! And it is, in fact at the top of the mountain.
We have made 4 trips to the mountains so we knew what to expect as far as driving. Anybody not familiar with this type of terrain might find it daunting. Have no fear; the roads are steep the farther up you go, but are nice and wide! They are not paved but are clay with gravel topping. There are ruts/potholes as one would expect on unpaved roads. Strongly recommend an SUV, truck, or 4 wheel drive. However, it isn't impossible to get to top in a Sedan. Just remember if your vehicle sits low, it will hit bottom if you drive too fast.
Driving aside, the location is well worth the trip! Absolutely beautiful & relaxing.
Deena, thank you so much for the detailed information on your stay at the Sunset. Sounds like you really enjoyed the cabin and the amazing views. I also appreciate the comments on the drive up there. I've been doing it for almost 20 years so I guess I'm blind to someone doing it for the first time. I felt you very accurately described it and that is so appreciated. Definitely come back and stay with us again!
Sunset Ridge is located approximately 6 miles down Boardtown road, where you will turn onto Big Ben. Several miles up it dead ends into Gobbler Knob where you will experience a wonderful Sunset over the vast expansion of mountains from the extra large deck. It is located about 10 minutes from downtown Ellijay, where you will find plenty of antiques stores, shopping and restaurants. It is also 15 minutes from Blue Ridge, an upscale town with speciality boutiques and fine dining as well as the Blue Ridge Scenic Railroad. You will be minutes from fishing, horseback riding and hiking can be done from the front door, with a moderate to intense terrain. There is tubing about 20 minutes away in both Ellijay and Blue Ridge, Lake Blue RIdge for boating, jet skies and fishing and whitewater rafting is less then an hour away at the Ocoee and a bit further North to the Nantulahala.
