About the property

House, 1 Bedroom + Other (See Description), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2-3)

Bonnie and David designed and built this house in 2008, and have lived here since. We love living in Hawaii and the Mountain View area. The climate is cooler and pleasant. I am a carpenter and design and draw house plans. Bonnie works in the social services sector. We enjoy meeting people and are looking forward to having guests in our home.

Our rental is perfectly located, 20 min. from the Volcano National Park and the Kilauea Caldera. 30 min. from Hilo. The second story apt. is 600 sq. ft. with a full kitchen and bath, king bed, twin day bed as well as a spare cot and crib are available. A private lanai over looks the garden and forest. A quiet place to relax after a day of exploring the island. We provide TV, wifi, hot tub, spices and condiments in the kitchen. Our rental is centrally located for exploring the entire east side of the Big Island. Hope to see yo soon Bonnie and David

Gorgeous Home in Excellent Location

  • 5 of 5

This little apartment on top of Dave and Bonnie's home is gorgeous, relaxing, quiet, and in a great location! I was referred to this rental by a family member that stayed here a couple years ago. This rental property was perfect for our three night stay on the Eastern side of the Island. It is 20 minutes from the Volcano National Park and 30 minutes from Hilo. The property was spotless and had all the amenities we needed. The kitchen was also stocked with condiments, spices, pots, pans, water, etc. The fresh fruit was amazing and gorgeous fresh flowers decorated the apartment. We especially enjoyed eating dinner on the lanai and just relaxing in the rainforest/jungle atmosphere.

The directions Dave gave us were perfect and our GPS worked as well to find the location.

Thank you so much Dave and Bonnie! We will definitely be staying here again when we come back to the Island!

Beautiful Home in a Convenient Location

  • 5 of 5

It might have been hard to find without our GPS unit but it is definitely worth finding. Dave and Bonnie have an absolutely beautiful place and provided many thoughtful extras that made our stay very enjoyable. The flowers and fresh fruit awaiting us upon arrival were a beautiful and tasty added touch. It is convenient to both Volcano National Park and Hilo (and Hilo based activities). Thank you for sharing your home with us. Mahalo, David and Janet

Exactly as everyone else has said!

  • 5 of 5

We picked this place based upon the reviews that we read. They were all very flattering! And they were spot on! I don't want to list all these possitive qualities again. In summary, exactly as wonderful as everyone else before us has said! Thanks David and Bonnie for giving us a five star stay!!

it's a paradise!

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay at David and Bonnie's house. It's a beautiful garden and very quiet. David provided us everything you could imagine and they even prepared delicious tropical fruits for us and gave us a 2016 calendar as a farewell gift. The room was decorated by Bonnie and it's so clean and pretty. I have to say this place was even nicer than my own. David is very friendly and his two dogs are very cute. I will recommend this place to my friends and if we return to the big island in the future, this place definitely is my first choice!

Hidden gem

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for one week in November at this lovely place and it was the most beautiful accomodation in our one month island hopping vacation.

In a beautiful tropical garden, the spaceious second floor apartment with its own stairway and private lanai comes with luxury and functional furniture, of course absolute cleanly and wellkept, with plenty of decoration, flowers, tourist information, books and magazines, radio, tv, candle, umbrellas, ..... the owners live on the ground floor, they gave us a very warm welcome, helpful tipps and nice smalltalk when we met, but also our privacy.

The kitchen is big enough and equipped to cook full dinner and was stocked with all basics like sugar, oil, many spices, sauces and dressings and some complimentary, delicious fresh fruits. We got some tamarinds as a farewell present also...

It's a perfect homebase to visit Volcano National Park, Lower Puna, Hilo and the East Coast - a quiet place right in between, and also not to far from South Point, Mauna Kea & Mauna Loa.

Out on the Lanai we could see Lava at the Pu'uo'o illuminating the clouds and hear the birds and frogs of the surrounding tropical rainforests during the night, while it was cozy and quiet inside.

We definitely want to stay there again, when visiting Big Island next time!

Exceptional Retreat

  • 5 of 5

These owners embody the Hawaiian spirit of friendly acceptance. We felt welcome immediately upon arrival with a chilled plate of limes and guava and a huge bowl of fruit. The kitchen is well-stocked with condiments to get started and plenty of counter space. Extra amenities such as Band-Aids, hydrogen peroxide, flashlights, and umbrellas enabled us to enjoy this beautifully landscaped property after a day of exploring the island without driving back into town to purchase items we forgot. Our questions were promptly answered via email prior to our stay and information about local restaurants and day trips was readily available within the apartment. This location was very convenient to National Volcanoes Park and to Hilo. There are also good restaurants only 5-10 minutes away. We enjoyed both Volcano House and Kilauea Lodge.

We stayed at three other VRBOs during our island hopping, including a stand-alone home, and although they were all very comfortable and relaxing, this rural luxury space was most like the Hawaii we think about on the mainland. Clean, quiet, and comfortable, with spacious bath and bedroom, and decorated in the Hawaiian style, it made us feel at home. The ambience of the property is charming and the cool air of the evening lulled us into deep sleep.

If, in the future, we return to the Big Island, we hope this lovely sanctuary will still be available to rent.
