Overview

About the property

4 bedrooms, 2 baths, sleeps 8 with formal areas, washer, dryer, all amenities

Summer is great in historic Lunenburg and the fall is fantastic. The sun rises in the front and sets in the back over water! The view is breathtaking from every room in the house or from the balconies. The home is tastefully decorated, warm, cozy and rich from coordinated comforters and sheets to the color on the walls and is fully furnished for housekeeping. A fully equipped kitchen includes dishwasher, microwave, ice maker, all utensils, several sets of dishes, etc. This 4/2 approx. 2000 sq. ft. has three queen beds and a double bed in the antique bedroom along with a family room, living room, dining room and utility room with washer and dryer. Both bathrooms have been completely renovated for your pleasure. Some of the amenities include cable, wide screen TV, WIFI, and a high powered telescope to follow vessels leaving the harbor or view a star studded night sky. The house is located between Masons Pond and the Atlantic Ocean...

The Bluenose Golf Course separates the home from the town only a kilometer away. Historic Lunenburg is one of the most picturesque towns in all of Canada and is viewed every visit into town. The well known 'Bluenose' sailing vessel and the 'Bounty' were built in this quaint village. It still remains the home of the Dory ( the wood slatted fishing boat as seen in the picture of The Old Man and the Sea.) Take the walking tour or the horse and buggy ride. Just over the hill from the house you can buy fresh lobster at the dock just out of the sea. There is none like it. Enjoy an unforgettable vacation. You won't be disappointed. The house is located directly in front of Mason's Pond. If you hit the satellite map and zoom out, you can see the creek coming from the beach and winding along side the house emptying into the pond.

About Paula Paradise

I am an American living in the Tampa area of Florida for over 37 years. Most of my growing up years were in Miami. That is why the water in Nova Scotia is too cold for my blood. My five children are grown now with their own children. I try to get to Lunenburg sometime in the summer to visit friends, relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings.

Paula Paradise purchased this house in 1998

Why Paula Paradise chose Nova Scotia

On vacation to Canada we started in Toronto, took a train to Montreal and on to Halifax. The locals told us not to miss Lunenburg, so we didn't. We fell in love with this quaint town, picked up a real estate magazine and could not pass up the location. We purchased the property in the fall of 1998, renovated the house and the rest is history.

What makes this house unique

The location cannot be duplicated. The sun rises and sets over water viewed from any room in the house and especially the balconies.l Truly a spectacular sight. The area offers so much to see and do. Whatever time you have, it is never enough.

Disappointed :(

  • 1 of 5

I don't even know where to begin. My family and I have been renting cottages/ homes in N.S. for 5 years now and have always been pleased. This house requires some TLC. It feels like nobody has been there for years. Everything is old and either non functioning or outdated . The calendar was from 2007. The blender was very old .The BBQ was non functional so we complained and the " housekeeper" who is very rude and unpleasant had to bring a new one on our 4th day there. We had planned our meals around having a grill as was indicated on the list so we emailed the owner who told the housekeeper to go buy one and bring it over. The housekeeper is not well so her son does all the work. He arrived there and told us he was so tired from working 14 hours and is going through a divorce etc. We are on vacation and don't need to worry about what everyone is going through- we just wanted a BBQ to cook our meals. .The bed in the master bedroom is broken and falls off the frame. All of the beds are old and creaky. The AC doesn't work. Ceiling fans are listed but there is only one in the master bedroom.Ice maker is listed-it doesn't work. There was no toilet paper, the dish soap was hard as rock and old. There is no where to sit outside- no patio- no deck. The beach is not really a beach. Its full of rocks and seaweed, not sand. The toaster is missing knobs. The activities guide on the list is so outdated. It feels like this place had not been rented in years. The housekeeper just left the key then never came back like she said she would to give us guidelines or any info on the area or the house. There was no welcome letter- nothing. The owner did email to apologize to us on numerous occasions but the housekeeper and her son were just plain rude and treated us like we were bothering them. It was very uncomfortable for us. We were 7. I would not recommend this house until they do a nice renovation!

Owner's Response: I must say I am stunned by this scathing review. My house has been rented for the last six years a few weeks in the summer. The house is decorated to reflect the historic town of Lunenburg with antiques (which are old) and transitional decor. The furnishings are NOT abused, worn, dirty or dysfunctional. The 'calendar' is a desk mat to protect the desk and provide a writing surface. I kept it for that purpose. I assume everyone has a calendar in their phone. ...an old blender? It's newer than mine. The house is on the ocean. The salt air can harden dishwasher detergent in little time. When I replace it, it will be those new 'power balls'. The gas BBQ grill was 5 years old. I responded immediately when I received an Email it wasn't working. The stores didn't open until Mon. By the time I located a grill, had it purchased and assembled it was Wed. I don't know why or how the bed broke. It is a poster bed with wood railings, and not old. It was fixed immediately . I never claimed the house has A/C. There is an old window unit downstairs behind the curtains I have not taken out. I have been to the house every month in the summer and have never needed it. Few houses in Lunenburg have A/C. The breeze from the ocean in the summer is wonderful. As can be seen by the first picture of the house, the SAND is in the forefront. Along with the sand on the beach there is some seaweed. The neighbor goes in swimming every day in the summer. The beach shelf goes out quite away at low tide. What makes it even more fun is the collection of shells and unique smooth stones including granite in and on the sand. The beach is at the bottom of its 'U' shape and as you explore both sides it becomes rocky. Great for exploring. We have found 'fools gold', semi-precious stones and even an oyster with pearls. There is small balcony on the front and a small landing at the top of the stairs with a great view of the lake and the ocean. No house has everything for every renter. My housekeeper has been good and dependable for many years. She has recent health issues and has had to rely upon her son for help. If she did not leave enough toilet paper, replenish the brochures, or had an attitude with this renter I do apologize. It has not been the norm. I will be hiring a new housekeeper who can keep up. I would be glad to answer any questions or concerns about anything on HomeAway's site or anything about the house or area, please do not hesitate to contact me. Paula

Beautiful large home, spectacular views!

  • 5 of 5

Can't believe we found such an idyllic setting. Behind this home, a beautiful pond, and out front was the ocean! We had gorgeous sunrises, sunsets, and unbelievable star-filled evenings. This home was spotless, comfortable, and more than we expected. We were pleased with everything inside. Beautiful furniture, two nice dining areas, 4 comfortable bedrooms, two staircases to access the second floor, two really nice bathrooms, one up and one down ...just an exceptional spacious home, and very well maintained. Nice linens too. Especially enjoyed the second-floor telescope where we could view the little towns and lighthouses along the coast. The kitchen had everything, although we ate out a lot. Very convenient 5-minute drive to Lunenberg, which is such a picturesque little town with lots to see and do. Several great little restaurants with fabulous seafood. Anyone who enjoys sailing as we do, will love all the historical attractions on the Canadian Schooner Bluenose. Also, it was a great jumping-off spot to see attractions like the Bay of Fundy and rhe Ovens Sea Caves. All in all, our stay there was more than we expected. Wonderful accommodations, fantastic views, great spot to just relax and unwind. We are a family of 4 and are planning to book this home again, next time will include friends. We would give this 10+ stars though the system only allows for 5.

Excellent value and lovely location!

  • 5 of 5

I have been to Lunenburg many times before for the Boxwood Flute Festival and have stayed in many properties. This one was very nice, we had seven people staying in it. Lots of towels and linens and a well equipped kitchen and all of the amenities were as promised, wi-fi was great. One thing that should be noted for future guests - there is only one bedroom downstairs and three up, and to get to them you have to go up a very narrow and somewhat scary spiral staircase. The person in our group who took the downstairs bedroom could have in no way made it up and down those stairs multiple times a day. The rest of us were fine, but if anybody has mobility issues this is a definite point to consider. It was walkable into town, but maybe a bit further than listed in the property ad, over a mile. Very quick drive however and fantastic views on the way into town of lovely Lunenburg! I would definitely consider staying at this house again. It was far enough from any neighbors that we could play music well into the wee hours and not bother anybody, a definite bonus. Also, the fact that we could add an extra night to our week stay made it possible for us to stay there for the entire festival and not have to move for the final evening. Most properties in town hold tightly to the Saturday-Saturday time frame. We all enjoyed our stay very much!!!

Wonderful Vacation, perfect location...

  • 5 of 5

What a great vacation home and the location is perfect! We enjoyed unbelievable sunrises over the Atlantic and sunsets on the pond. Lunenburg is a storybook village. So many neat things to see and do. We can't wait to go back and we'll be staying at the Paradise House again.
