About Helena Buell
My family moved to Costa Rica from Santa Cruz California 20 years ago. Now I have two beautiful Costa Rican grand daughters. Life here is simple and very connected to the natural environment, to sunny blue sky's , amazing sunsets, blustery windy days , beautiful Rain and to the immense biodiversity that is the signature gift of Costa Rica! Costa Rica is the most Biodiverse place on Planet Earth. It is an ever fresh adventure to live here,
Helena Buell purchased this Cabin in 2000
Why Helena Buell chose Sabalito
I bought this property because it is situated on the edge of an ancient rainforest and a friendly village.
What makes this Cabin unique
From the back porch we can see groups of monkeys of all ages and hundreds of types of exotic birds. And yet we can walk out the front gate and be on a paved civilized street with a little market near by and amazing views of the volcano and lake just walking to the small market 5 minutes away.

peaceful, relaxing, beautiful
This was our third stay during our Costa Rica trip and by far the most amazing! I could have made my entire trip out of this stay location. Helena is so welcoming, helpful and accommodating. If I return to Costa Rica, which I plan to, I will definitely book again at casa de helena. The surroundings are gorgeous! The location is perfect and there is TONS to do around her home. I felt completely safe and comfortable.
Clean and comfortable accommodations. Lovely hostess. Peaceful surroundings.
The bed was squeezed in standing at wall which was not comfortable for us at all. The room would have been perfect for young people but not for us. Too bad the bigger room, which I booked first, was taken. Helena then offered the smaller room which I did not see in a picture, I would not have booked it. Helena's property was on top of the hill, we experienced heavy storms and rain at all 3 days/nights. Loved the outdoor kitchen and bathroom.
Your husband mentioned that you have separate beds at home and are not accustomed to sleeping in a double bed together. It is a romantic space and it is true younger couples love this room and find it perfect.
Rain Storms come and go December and January here at the lake. We are actually only half way up the hill and just about 5 minutes drive to the lake shore. Our area is the Beautiful Lake Arenal surrounded by lush green Tropical hills.
A Delightful Hide-Away
This is an awesome property - beautifully designed, super clean and well maintained. It is situated well for day trips to explore the area. Lots of parakeets, macaws and other birds enjoy the lush landscaping and the howlers will alert you to both dusk and dawn - an amazing sound! We highly recommend staying here and look forward to doing so on our next trip. The proprietor, Helena, is extremely accommodating. Really cannot say enough about the great experience at Casa Helena.
