" Your place is really cute. The air and heat worked just fine for us. I even caught a small mouth bass out of the River, and saw a most gorgeous Eagle. He flew right in front of me right above the water. Thanks for renting to us, for a much needed time away. "
We had a great long weekend at this house!! We made several meals with the cookware at the home and our meals were great! The location was amazing. Doug was great to work with and was very easy to get a hold of. We did spend most of our days out on Torch Lake, but in the evening the backyard and dock were a great place to hang out and unwind from the day!! We would recommend this place to our friends. Thanks for a great stay!
We were a little worried that the lagoon would be too shallow for our 25ft Eliminator (inboard) but everything was fine, it was super nice to not have to pull the boat out and trailer it. Just a quick short walk to convience store and dining. I did wish that i brought my griddle to cook breakfast, there werent any pans avail that i was able to cook with without burning the food, i guess im just used to teflon. The owner wasnt lying about the limited parking, if you have a large trailer you might want to park it at a friends. We are tall people, so would prefer a queen size bed over a double, but that is all thngs we knew ahead of time. All in all, very clean and nice place to stay. Beautiful view of the lagoon in the back, and view of Torvh in the front. Decor a little outdated, made me wonder what kind of life Elsie had when she lived there.
We had a GREAT time and will definitely come back again!
We brought our 26' Donzi (power boat), the quicksilver dingy with a small electric motor and two kayaks. Everyday we changed it up a bit amongst these three. The trip is only minutes to get to the famous sandbar of Torch Lake with the power boat from the dock on the Bayou (nice to not have to worry about trailering it every day of your vacation). If we weren't feeling that ambitious, we opted to take either the quicksilver or kayaks out on the Bayou side of the cabin and up the Torch River. Our guests were happy to see that even if we weren't planning a trip out on the boat, they could still get to the sandbar by just walking across the road and right into the water (which is UNBELIEVABLY BEAUTIFUL!).
The neighbors were extremely friendly and helpful with letting us know about the area. On our next visit we plan on exploring more from the river access to Skegemog and Elk Lakes (just ran out of time).
This house has everything, the location is right across the street from the sandbar which even if you dont have a boat can just walk right out to it. The house was clean, comfortable and had everything we needed. Plus the boat dock in the back is a deal breaker. Looking forward to staying again.
Cute, clean and cozy, a true classic 1930’s style cottage located on the “Torch River bayou”, and across the road from Torch Lake. Dock your boat in the back yard. From there you can access the seventy five mile long “Elk River Chain of Lakes”, consisting of fourteen lakes and connecting rivers. Torch Lake and Elk Lake alone provide 27 miles of Michigan’s deepest inland water. The remaining 47 miles provide all the room you need for exploring by boat, kayak, or canoe.
The cottage is located on the south end of Torch Lake, near the Sandbar, where hundreds of boats gather on the holidays for a day to play and swim. There is a small county beach across the street or take your boat out of the bayou, down the river, and out to the Lake.
But there’s more than water sports. Walk a quarter mile down to the Torch River Bridge and watch the boats navigate the swift, crystal clear water between Torch and Elk. It’s five minutes by car to the little town of Alden, for shopping, delis and a museum, A thirty minute drive to the scenic towns of Charlevoix or Elk Rapids for shopping and dining. You will be thirty to forty minutes from Traverse City for shopping, golf, casino and fine dining,
Take a day trip to climb the Sleeping Bear Dunes or a scenic drive into wine and orchard country, Mission Point or the Leland fishing village. Make sure you take in some of the local nature walks at the Grass River Natural Area, Skegemog Swamp Pathways, and The Seven Bridges.
Or you could always just relax and enjoy a quiet time in “up north Michigan”.
