Big Manistique Lake is 5 miles across, over 10,000 acres, and is the 2nd largest inland lake in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The Big Manistique Cottage is located just north of Cooks Bay, on the Western side of Big Manistique Lake. There is a private dock on the property with an easily accessible launch site nearby. You may choose to bring your own boat, or take advantage of the boat rental and delivery service that is just a short drive away in the quaint little town of Curtis. If you decide to rent a boat, it will be delivered right to the cabin dock, the only thing you have to remember are your bathing suits and fishing poles!
Other outside amenities include both propane grill and a charcoal grill, a fire pit with seating area (folding chairs can be found in the game closet for use since there are no permanent seats around the fire pit), and plenty of private outdoor space for sunbathing, yard games and any other outdoor activities that you may want to enjoy.

Boat dock: Depending on the water level, it is generally easy to park up to 2- 18 foot boats alongside the dock. Just let us know if you'll need tie-off poles for the dock.
Boat rental: We do have a dock if you wish to bring your own boat to use on vacation. If you would like to rent a boat a great place to consider is Watson's Marina (906) 586-9731 * W17225 Main St, Curtis, MI 49820.
Cable: Yes-We do have Direct TV in the living room at the Big Manistique Lakefront Cottage.
Cell phone service: AT&T and track phones generally have good service around the cabin. Still, cell phone service is generally unreliable in the Upper Peninsula, when you travel outside of Marquette and Escanaba.
Internet: We don't currently have Internet at the Big Manistique Cabin. The closest Internet service would be at a restaurant in Curtis.
Kitchen/Bath: For your convenience, the kitchen is supplied with basic utensils and stocked with paper towel, plus there is a dishwasher and coffee maker for use during your stay. Also, you will find that the bathrooms are stocked with bathroom tissue and there are bath towels available for use.
Fans/Air Conditioning/Heating: While we do not have air conditioning at the Big Manistique Lakefront Cabin, in our experience it would rarely be needed. The ceiling fan and room fans, plus the cool evening air in the Upper Peninsula, makes your experience a comfortable one. Thermostats for heat are located in every room.
Firewood: There may be some firewood available for your use at the cabin, but due to rain or other weather conditions, it could be too wet to burn. In the instance that you need firewood, you may pick up some in Curtis for approximately $5/bundle. The indoor wood burning stove is for decorative purposes only, therefore we ask that it not be used.
Grilling: We do have a propane grill for you to use!
Privacy/Neighbors: There is definitely a lot of privacy at the Big Manistique Cottage. The nearest neighbor is about 200 feet away and separated by a region of trees.
Pets: We do allow pets, but please ask that you pick up after your pet both inside and outside of the cabin.*Pets are welcome! Freshwater Vacation Rentals currently charges $50/per pet.
Roads: In arriving to the Big Manistique Lake Cabin, you do need to drive on some gravel roads to get to the cabin. The roads are not 2-tracks and they will be bumpy in places, but with caution, it is easy to maneuver directly to the cabin.
Swimming: We do swim on Big Manistique Lake, yet generally the bottom of the lake is quite rocky, so we strongly suggest bringing water shoes. The dock has a ladder attached to it at the end for swimming. You can swim around the end of the dock. It is fairly shallow out 30-40 yards or so. (3-5 ft. deep) There are also 3 public beaches in the Big Manistique Lake area.
Water: Our well provides clear, clean water for your use. The well water is treated and filtered.

Right on the lake with a large deck. It is a comfortable place for a family. 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, 7 beds and cable tv make it an ideal place to spend time together.
Very private. Large deck overlooking the beautiful Big Manistique Lake. You wouldn't know it, yet there are 'neighbors' about 300 feet away, through the trees. It feels like you are alone at the cottage, and that the lake is yours! Plus, we love offering full cable TV for those rainy days.
We had a wonderful time at Lake Manistique! Cant wait to go back, the house was perfect; clean, well kept and well stocked with items to keep it clean despite bringing the dogs! In fact, I think I would like to live there...
We absolutely loved our time at Big Manistique Lake. Right when we stepped into the cottage, we felt welcomed. Everything was ready for us. We enjoyed the weekend with family. The place was clean and neat. Everything that was mentioned on the website was there. No surprises. The place was just as it was described. The directions to the place were easy to follow. The pictures provided were helpful. We had invited some of the family and the pictures of the bedrooms were helpful, especially when figuring out the sleeping arrangements. Also, the kitchen and dining room were plenty big enough to accommodate all of us. We did all of our own cooking which was why the size of the kitchen and eating area were so important to us. While the pictures provided were helpful for that, they didn't do the view justice. The view of the lake from the cottage was beautiful. The yard was huge and partially wooded. Even though there were cottages nearby, the size of the yard and location of the cottage we stayed in gave us the feeling no one else was around for miles. The front room had big picture windows overlooking the lake. With the exception of the bathroom, every room had windows. The sunrise was spectacular. The sun shining in the cottage during the day made the place warm and cheerful. While the fall weekend was cool, it was not cold. We did a lot of sitting out on the deck which overlooked the beautiful lake. The evenings got a little chilly so we started a fire in the woodstove. It was the weekend of the Ocktoberfest in Curtis. On Saturday, we wandered back to town which was 8 miles away for the festivities. On Sunday we took a drive to see the ghost town of Fayetteville which was about an hour a a half away. Mostly, we just sat around, talked and relaxed. What a wonderful weekend.
We truly enjoyed our time. The house was clean and very comfortable. Our dog loved the large yard and yet we felt very secluded.
This is a nice house to use as a home base for visiting a variety if sights in the UP. There were only three of us so we had lots of room. The sunrises over the lake were breathe taking and all we had to do was walk down the hallway to see them. Right after the summer season ended was a perfect time to visit. Thank you for sharing the house with us.
We would highly recommend this cottage to everyone. It was very clean easy to get too, the layout of the cottage was well organized we absolutely loved it. Had a dock for the boat we were catching perch right in front of the cottage was a blast. Only 10 mins to the Seney national wildlife refuge, and A hour to Tahquamenon falls a must see in the fall time. The cottage is so centrally located to everything I wish we had more time to visit other attractions just ran out of time. Next year we will be looking for a longer stay that is for sure !! Thank you very much for a wonderful stay at your cottage.
This cabin is roomy and comfortable. Having a washer and dryer was a plus. The view of the lake is spectacular ! Everything you need for a comfortable stay is provided. It's definitely a great bargain for the price . My only recommendation would be a little more detailed instructions for finding the cabin for people not familiar with how lake property is set up.
Well cared for property with wonderful views of Big Lake Manistique. House was clean with good beds and decent chairs and a sectional couch in the living room. The kitchen was also well supplied with the exception of measuring spoons. Come and enjoy it! We certainly did.
Some attractions in Germfask are Tad Lake, Seney Wildlife Refuge, Mezik Lake, Driggs River and many more! Come experience the same area where Ernest Hemingway found inspiration for his writings.
