October 21, 2011 – New York Times, Emily Brady:

“Sonoma County may be best known for its wineries and the tony (sic) towns of Healdsburg and Sonoma, but West County, as locals call the area around Sebastopol, is where the vineyards begin to give way to rolling hills, bohemian enclaves and the wild Pacific Coast beyond. Sure, there’s wine produced here — excellent pinots in particular — but there’s plenty to explore beyond it, especially around Sebastopol, where in recent years new restaurants, shops and live music venues have opened, securing the town’s position as West County’s arts and culture hub.”

American as Apple Pie

“‘I’ve been to Napa and Sonoma,’ you hear people say, as if they were one and the same. Sure, Sonoma’s 300-plus wineries, like those of vine-centric Napa, offer peak wine tasting, from Ravenswood’s deep Zinfandels to Gloria Ferrer’s sophisticated sparklers. But if you’ve visited only the county’s wineries, come back to sample the astounding diversity that makes Sonoma one of America’s travel treasures.

Spend some time floating in an inner tube down the Russian River and walking amid ancient giants—one over 1,400 years old—at Armstrong Redwoods State Natural Reserve. Poke around the old Russian stockade at Fort Ross, which turns 200 in 2012, or the Spanish adobe mission, San Francisco Solano, in Sonoma town. Hunt for antiques along Petaluma’s downtown Victorian row, and dine on seasonal sake-steamed, aged abalone at Michelin-starred Cyrus in Healdsburg. And don’t miss a flaky, fruit-packed slice of Gravenstein pie from Mom’s Apple Pie, a roadside stop outside Sebastopol. It ranks up there with a Russian River Valley Pinot Noir as a real taste of Sonoma.”

An amazing wine country get-away

  • 5 of 5

What a fabulous house! I spent five days with a group of dear friends who are exceptional cooks. In addition to the incredible outdoor kitchen, the indoor kitchen is impressively stocked with everything these foodies needed. The location is perfect: close to great wineries and restaurants, the coast, and good shopping. The hosts/owners go out of their way to make sure their guests have a wonderful experience. I highly recommend the WineBerry Lodge! Thanks so much, Heidi and Brent... I can't wait to come back!

**Highly highly recommend** Amazing home for a weekend away!!

  • 5 of 5

I found this place when planning my sister's Bachelorette wine weekend away and it was EVERYTHING that we were looking for. The house really made our weekend amazing! We had 8 women for the stay and we all slept comfortably. There is 3 bedrooms down stairs and a large open room upstairs with 2 beds and sofa (which we didn't need to have anyone sleep on).

I was honestly just blown away by the beauty of this home! It's secluded enough and is really quite but is close enough to walk to wineries. And has a market close by if you need anything. We spent one of our days walking to a few wineries- 3 tasting rooms are very close. With the whindy roads of wine county I would recommend driving or getting a car if you plan to visit any tasting rooms outside of the 3 closest (Merryweather Edwards, Red Car and Dutton Goldfield).

Heidi was such a great host and met us when we checked in. I felt very welcomed and comfortable during our stay. She showed us how to use the wood burning pizza oven and we used it on one of the nights and made delicious homemade pizzas! The outdoor kitchen is fantastic and had everything we could have needed. The kitchen inside was stocked with nice pots/pans/dishes and even tupperware for leftover food that we had.

We enjoyed the garage and played ping pong. If we stayed longer than the 3 days I'm sure we would have made use out of some of the other outdoor games at the house. The spa was very clean and added to the joys of the backyard.

The only trouble we had was with the outdoor heaters-could have been user error. :) But luckily the weather was nice and we didn't need them.

I highly recommend WineBerry Lodge and my girl friends and I hope to return again in the future. Thank you for the great stay Heidi!

Great location, awesome outdoor space and wonderful stay!

  • 5 of 5

We just got back from a long weekend in Sonoma and I'm not sure we could have picked a better place. I was a little worried about the location, but we were super close to so many fabulous wineries and also great food. Heidi also suggested picking up pizza dough and our husbands had so much fun making pizzas each night - the ladies had no complaints either not having to cook! The home was very well stocked and had all the things we needed and items that are often overlooked when renting a home (ziplock bags, trash bags, and lots of fresh food and spices and more!). All 6 of us also commented on how well we slept at WB Lodge. The beds really were comfortable!!! Overall, I would definitely recommend the WB Lodge to my friends and family. Check it out!

Gorgeous home, fabulous location, outdoor living at it's best

  • 5 of 5

A luxurious space for outdoor living, including a running water pond, pizza oven in amazing outdoor kitchen and hot tub, plus a beautifully appointed interior environment, luxurious and lovely. We were there for a nonprofit board retreat that felt like a true retreat. Highly recommended!

Wonderful getaway in the heart of wine country

  • 5 of 5

WineBerry Lodge is a wonderful place to stay for a visit to the wine country! The home is perfectly situated to accommodate all the things 8 women wanted to do - wine tasting, antiquing, shopping and great food. The home is so well appointed with every last detail - snuggie robes in each of the bedrooms, comfortable beds and linens, a fully stocked kitchen, outdoor pizza oven and hot tub. The gracious host welcomed us upon arrival, showed us all the ropes of the various amenities and then left us to have our fun.
