October 21, 2011 – New York Times, Emily Brady:

“Sonoma County may be best known for its wineries and the tony (sic) towns of Healdsburg and Sonoma, but West County, as locals call the area around Sebastopol, is where the vineyards begin to give way to rolling hills, bohemian enclaves and the wild Pacific Coast beyond. Sure, there’s wine produced here — excellent pinots in particular — but there’s plenty to explore beyond it, especially around Sebastopol, where in recent years new restaurants, shops and live music venues have opened, securing the town’s position as West County’s arts and culture hub.”

American as Apple Pie

“‘I’ve been to Napa and Sonoma,’ you hear people say, as if they were one and the same. Sure, Sonoma’s 300-plus wineries, like those of vine-centric Napa, offer peak wine tasting, from Ravenswood’s deep Zinfandels to Gloria Ferrer’s sophisticated sparklers. But if you’ve visited only the county’s wineries, come back to sample the astounding diversity that makes Sonoma one of America’s travel treasures.

Spend some time floating in an inner tube down the Russian River and walking amid ancient giants—one over 1,400 years old—at Armstrong Redwoods State Natural Reserve. Poke around the old Russian stockade at Fort Ross, which turns 200 in 2012, or the Spanish adobe mission, San Francisco Solano, in Sonoma town. Hunt for antiques along Petaluma’s downtown Victorian row, and dine on seasonal sake-steamed, aged abalone at Michelin-starred Cyrus in Healdsburg. And don’t miss a flaky, fruit-packed slice of Gravenstein pie from Mom’s Apple Pie, a roadside stop outside Sebastopol. It ranks up there with a Russian River Valley Pinot Noir as a real taste of Sonoma.”

You will require more than 5 Stars for Wineberry Lodge!

  • 5 of 5

Our family stayed at Wineberry during our daughters wedding, which was in Sebastopol. I could not have chosen a warmer, more beautiful lodge home. This is a 6 star home, out of a 5 star rating system. The photos of the lodge on the website do not do justice. It is far more beautiful than any photo can express. Heidi and Brent are great hosts and available for any of your needs. The home has everything you might need, which really helps when you want to cook a meal, bake a pie, or anything at all. The brick oven pizza is amazing, and adds such a fun activity. The outside covered pavilion is so large, but it gives a warm and cozy feeling to the backyard. The stream in the back provides relaxing sounds and the wooded area is impeccably maintained. All the rooms are nicely decorated and you will easily see that the owner takes great pride in their property. The close wine tasting vineyards give this location extra appeal. I loved our time here, and wished we could have stayed longer!

Amazing- impeccable

  • 5 of 5

We came to wineberry for a birthday celebration with friends and family. The house is spectacular- and the outdoor kitchen is off the hook. The house came stocked with every necessity- including welcome wine and a lovely fruit basket. Couldn't have asked for a more perfect place to stay- and amazing customer service by Heidi and her son- Nick. Definitely would love to stay there again!

We struck gold with this place.

  • 5 of 5

My bride and I rented Wineberry & Blackberry for our wedding party members. The property was as described (or better!), a huge enhancement to our weekend. Heidi provided excellent customer service and communication, and I would certainly recommend her place to others.

Very nice home

  • 5 of 5

You can tell this home is very well taken care of, and I hope other guests take care of this lovely place. The indoor and outdoor kitchen's are beautiful and have everything you would need to make a gourmet meal. The owners are very kind and even went as far as putting some "happy birthday" decor for my mother in-law before we arrived. Their son was there to help us learn how to use the pizza oven and all the tools to make the perfect pizza in their outdoor pizza oven. Bedrooms and bathrooms were all nice and comfortable. Hot tub was nice after a long day of wine tasting at the near by wineries. This is quite a gem and am sure anyone here will appreciate it as much as we did.

absolutely wonderful

  • 5 of 5

Our family rented both houses for a local wedding and cannot say enough positive about the houses - absolutely wonderful. Really comfortable, lovely quality in every detail, immaculate, peaceful, beautiful situation, close to everything in the county, extraordinarily well equipped kitchen and outdoor eating area - one of us is a chef and was delighted with the 'toys'. I could not recommend this place more for things like family reunions and group gatherings. Great restaurants down the road but why leave?
