The Trail: Quoted from The Appalachian Trail Conservancy: “The Appalachian Trail was built through the town of Hot Springs over seven decades ago, and today white blazes still mark the path through town and over the bridge across the French Broad River, before heading north up to the vista, Lover’s Leap. The Trail is unequivocally intertwined with the town - it is the first town, headed on a northbound hike, through which the Trail literally overlaps the town’s main street. Because of fond experiences, recreational opportunities, and scenic beauty, the town is quickly gaining popularity among second-home owners and people seeking to relocate entirely to Hot Springs.”

The Sanford house was great! We would recommend it and definitely stay there again. The house was very clean and well-stocked with essential items. Booking and getting in were a breeze. We enjoyed the hot tub and patio area very much. We ended up buying a few candles as the back area was dark. Being novices, we had a hard time figuring out the hot tub. It took many hours to heat up. The location was perfect and we enjoyed watching the river from the front porch.
This was my 3rd time staying here. I went with all my gals for our annual hot springs trip. The hot tub was broken upon our arrival and had we not initiated the service call, I don't think the owner would have. Unfortunately, we ALL got folliculitis from the hot tub (google it). Every one of us paid to go to the doctor. My friend called the owner after her doctor revealed what the burning bumps were; all she said was "bummer". That's it? No sincere apology...no future discount... Overall, we had a blast because it was our girl's trip. But folks...make sure those ph levels in that hot tub are okay.
We really enjoyed this property! Great location, beautiful setting, and plenty of room. The hot tub and sauna were a hit with everyone! We would definitely stay here again!!
Great little historical spot which would have been 5 star perfect if not for the following issues (unfortunateky, we paid top season rates):
- Ant problems (infesting food)
- No functioning grill
- Does not sleep 7
- Cleaning supplies/dirty rags/trash/cig butts/insulation left in grill/hot tub/shower/entertaining deck area
- Fire pit not closely accessible to house. We brought wood but was too far to carry. Not able to drive to it b/c you have to travel across someone's lawn.
It has the potential of being a real gem, but with so many issues, it was unfair to charge $200/night. I would highly recommend this property if the issues are addressed.
Absolutely loved most things about this spot! Right by the French Broad River, great amenities. Hot Springs is at least an annual trip, we still have extended family there. The problems: teeny tiny ants were in the kitchen when we arrived and also moved into other parts of the house, the dishwasher leaked all over the kitchen floor and the extra key noted on the arrival instructions was non-existent. I replied to the arrival email, hope it was read by someone and passed along.
Our recent "girls getaway" was truly a relaxing one thanks to our choice to stay here. The back yard is an oasis of relaxing activites, hot tub, sauna and firepit on patio. Only complaint is more lighting out back cause the rocks can be a little dangerous. Waking up with the morning cup of coffee and sitting on the porch listening to the river across the road was my favorite part. The owners provided everything except paper towels and toilet paper so if you come, make a stop in town first. The whole town is within walking distance from this house but ignore the detour signs when driving in. And while you're here be sure to eat at the Iron Horse and Sweet Imaginations! The guys at Huck Finn offer a great rafting trip! I would highly recommend this vacation rental to anyone looking for peace and quiet.
Beautiful 45 minute drive to Asheville should you want to experience a larger city or visit The Biltmore. Or simply stay in Hot Springs to enjoy what Blue Ridge Publications voted as being the 'Best Small Mountain Town.'
