We had a wonderful time

  • 5 of 5

Never in my life have I had such a relaxing vacation. The house was beautiful and wonderfully clean. The amenities where top notch. One of the days we travelled to Quincy mines and had a great time. We also visited the Big Bay lighthouse and walked the grounds nearby. Mostly we just sat on the stairs and watched the lake. Much too cold to swim but still a delight. I saw a bald eagle fly by nearly every day. We also saw loons, hummingbirds and Canadian geese. The flowers on the way to Quincy mine were incredible. Lupines everywhere!! I highly recommended this property.

Wonderful Memories!

  • 5 of 5

My husband & I hosted our 2 children with their families in June of 2014. I recently came across some pictures of our time together & realized that I had never left any feedback, so I'm doing it now!!! We have nothing but wonderful memories of this lovely home. The owners were helpful & friendly. We loved the screened room in the evenings & enjoyed the beautiful rocky beach during the days. We loved walking out to the lighthouse several times. We felt likely royalty in the plush surroundings! We would love to visit again but unlikely we can ever get the whole family together the way we did that year. So thankful to Michael Verlinden for helping to make these wonderful memories for our family.

Super, spacious and comfortable.

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed this home from day one. Plenty of space for our family. So many areas to find your comfort zone. Some days found us in the screened patio and other days on the open deck....many evening in the enclosed 3 season room...with the windows open it was like being out doors without the pesky bugs. Efficient kitchen...nice appliances. Bathrooms....very nice. Our morning walk was to the light house on most days and the bike riders found this a quick trip too. The view is amazing from most of the rooms, Lake Superior really is at your doorstep...we kayaked and swam off the stony beach....Life was very good at the Superior Bay House...

Not what expected

  • 3 of 5

We stayed here July 19 - 24. This is definitely not where you want to stay if you want a beach vacation or like to walk the beach. The view is pretty, but the shoreline is very rocky. We had horrible black flies the first three days. You couldn't go outside without looking like you were wearing a moving black shirt. and they were all over in the house from going in and out. The fly swatters that are there are needed! Luckily they went away the last two days and it was a relief. Regarding the accommodations, we were disappointed that there weren't enough chairs for everyone to sit and eat together. There were only 7 chairs, so we had to use the deck chairs. The cleaning lady told us there had been enough, but they had broken and not been replaced. The pull-out sofa in the downstairs bedroom had been moved upstairs to the living room. While this was a good thing for seating in the living room.............without it there would only be seating for 5 people.......it was a problem since we were planning on using the bed for our grand daughters to sleep in the same room as their parents. At the owners suggestion we took the mattress off the sofa and put it on the floor in the bedroom. We were still able to use the sofa so it worked out. There also wasn't enough linen for that bed, and some of the pillows were without pillowcases. The cleaning lady was very helpful and came over to give us more linens. It was quite hot while we were there and the air conditioner in the living room was unable to cool it down much. The TV (DISH) kept stopping saying it was overheated until we rigged up a fan blowing directly on it.

Positives:

- The master bedroom/bath was very comfortable.

- Kitchen was well equipped

- The big screened in porch was great

- hiked to a couple of nice waterfalls

- really nice beach about 30 minutes away

- the general store in town was convenient

Owner's Response: Thank you for the review of our property. We appreciate any and all feedback from those who wish to do so. I would like the opportunity to respond to your issues with the property. First I apologize if you were looking for sand beach frontage but I in no way have mislead those viewing my property online into believing the property is anything but a rocky shoreline. The photos on the website very clearly show the shore as rocky and in no way depict a sandy beach. As for the black flies, I am surprised that you experienced so late in the summer but again I feel obliged to say that I cannot control mother nature and that any remote area shore of Lake Superior has the potential to harvest black flies dependent on of course Mother Nature. Glad to hear the eventually were driven off by Mother Nature. Big Bay is quite remote and heavily forested. We do try to accommodate and we appreciate your positive feed back regarding the very large screened patio area. The seating issue again surprised me as we have extra banquet chairs in the garage for larger parties as well as approximately 10-12 indoor outdoor patio style chairs that are lightweight and easy to move. We did move the couch to the upper level in order to maximize bedroom space and typically find most people staying that exceed the four queen size beds provided tend to like the "camping style" room that he lower level bedroom offers for sleeping bags, blow up mattresses ect. We were glad to hear that our kitchen and master bedroom were to your liking as we are very proud of our home and have enjoyed very much the vacation rental experiences we have had. Great set up for a big family trip

  • 5 of 5

House was beautiful and very clean. Amazing view. We had 6 adults and a ton of little kids, and there was plenty of room for everyone. Kitchen was outfitted very well, and we enjoyed some great meals. We enjoyed a lot of UP sights in the area, including the Thomas Rock overlook, multiple waterfalls, Marquette Children's Museum, and Pictured Rocks as we headed out of town. Bring your own laundry soap and dishwashing pods; we had to hit the store.

I found out that I love a rocky beach! So much cleaner than dragging sand everywhere with you. We swam, skipped rocks, canoed. So much fun.

Beautiful view of the lake!

  • 5 of 5

The property met all our expectations. We would stay here again for sure, and we might. Beautiful lot but the front yard could have used a lot of attention, but that really didn't damper our experience. The canoe on site was great. We canoed across the bay and the pictured rocks are awesome over there!
