My husband & I hosted our 2 children with their families in June of 2014. I recently came across some pictures of our time together & realized that I had never left any feedback, so I'm doing it now!!! We have nothing but wonderful memories of this lovely home. The owners were helpful & friendly. We loved the screened room in the evenings & enjoyed the beautiful rocky beach during the days. We loved walking out to the lighthouse several times. We felt likely royalty in the plush surroundings! We would love to visit again but unlikely we can ever get the whole family together the way we did that year. So thankful to Michael Verlinden for helping to make these wonderful memories for our family.
We enjoyed this home from day one. Plenty of space for our family. So many areas to find your comfort zone. Some days found us in the screened patio and other days on the open deck....many evening in the enclosed 3 season room...with the windows open it was like being out doors without the pesky bugs. Efficient kitchen...nice appliances. Bathrooms....very nice. Our morning walk was to the light house on most days and the bike riders found this a quick trip too. The view is amazing from most of the rooms, Lake Superior really is at your doorstep...we kayaked and swam off the stony beach....Life was very good at the Superior Bay House...
We stayed here July 19 - 24. This is definitely not where you want to stay if you want a beach vacation or like to walk the beach. The view is pretty, but the shoreline is very rocky. We had horrible black flies the first three days. You couldn't go outside without looking like you were wearing a moving black shirt. and they were all over in the house from going in and out. The fly swatters that are there are needed! Luckily they went away the last two days and it was a relief. Regarding the accommodations, we were disappointed that there weren't enough chairs for everyone to sit and eat together. There were only 7 chairs, so we had to use the deck chairs. The cleaning lady told us there had been enough, but they had broken and not been replaced. The pull-out sofa in the downstairs bedroom had been moved upstairs to the living room. While this was a good thing for seating in the living room.............without it there would only be seating for 5 people.......it was a problem since we were planning on using the bed for our grand daughters to sleep in the same room as their parents. At the owners suggestion we took the mattress off the sofa and put it on the floor in the bedroom. We were still able to use the sofa so it worked out. There also wasn't enough linen for that bed, and some of the pillows were without pillowcases. The cleaning lady was very helpful and came over to give us more linens. It was quite hot while we were there and the air conditioner in the living room was unable to cool it down much. The TV (DISH) kept stopping saying it was overheated until we rigged up a fan blowing directly on it.
- The master bedroom/bath was very comfortable.
- Kitchen was well equipped
- The big screened in porch was great
- hiked to a couple of nice waterfalls
- really nice beach about 30 minutes away
- the general store in town was convenient
House was beautiful and very clean. Amazing view. We had 6 adults and a ton of little kids, and there was plenty of room for everyone. Kitchen was outfitted very well, and we enjoyed some great meals. We enjoyed a lot of UP sights in the area, including the Thomas Rock overlook, multiple waterfalls, Marquette Children's Museum, and Pictured Rocks as we headed out of town. Bring your own laundry soap and dishwashing pods; we had to hit the store.
I found out that I love a rocky beach! So much cleaner than dragging sand everywhere with you. We swam, skipped rocks, canoed. So much fun.
The property met all our expectations. We would stay here again for sure, and we might. Beautiful lot but the front yard could have used a lot of attention, but that really didn't damper our experience. The canoe on site was great. We canoed across the bay and the pictured rocks are awesome over there!
THE HOUSE MORE THAN ADVERTISED. GREAT VIEW OF THE LAKE. VERY COZY WITH ALL THE FIREPLACES. THE OWNERS WERE GREAT TO WORK WITH. WOULD STAY AT THIS PROPERTY AGAIN WITH NO HESITATION.
