About the property

Popular townhome, cottage style decor, 2 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, deck, views & wifi

A truly delightful vacation rental on the ninth fairway of the Continental Country Club Golf Course. A short walk to pool, clubhouse and tennis, you can have it all the serenity you need at Little Elk and yet be Downtown in just minutes! Hikers and bikers will love the forest trails surrounding the Country Club. The spacious deck affords unobstructed views of Mount Elden and the fairway. Watch the sunset from the rocking chairs, or dine on the cedar dining set for six. Our summer guests report as a highlight of their stay, sitting and listening to the breeze through the Aspen that shade one half of the deck. For winter guests, the wildlife visitors including elk and Canada Geese and tranquility of the snow-blanketed golf course are often noted by families who come to play in the snow. Not to mention the sledding minutes away. Guests love the ambience of our retro cottage style decor. Designed by the same team that created the phenomenal Lone Elk Lodge, (VRBO #84122) this golf course retreat, attached to one other identical unit, offers comfortable furnishings, soaring vaulted ceilings, cozy fireplace, air-conditioning/heating and all new appliances. Your well behaved, house-trained pets are welcome with prior approval. (Fees deposits apply) Enjoy stunning views and setting just seven minutes from the breweries, galleries, eateries, coffee shops, live music venues, boutique stores and more of Historic Downtown Flagstaff. The Continental Country Club is edged by mature forest on three sides. When they're not exploring Sedona or The Grand Canyon, or other state parks and National Monuments, our guests are a minute by car from the National Forest trails of the Campbell Mesa Recreation area. They also hike/bike nearby Mount Elden/Buffalo Park, discover Locket Meadow and the cave dwellings of Walnut Canyon State Park to the East or head West to the San Francisco Peaks and AZ Snowbowl. In town they visit Lowell Observatory and Riordan Mansion State Park. All this and wireless internet, free digital phone (Calls within US) and cable TV. Quite simply the best two bedroom/two bathroom rental in town with an unbeatable location that allows the guest to experience both the beauty of the mountains, and the fun of Downtown as well as excursions to the top tourist attractions in the South West.

SUMMER GUESTS: Little Elk Cottage is a stone's throw from the Continental Country Club pool and clubhouse and tennis/pickle ball courts. Guests at Little Elk who stay 7 nights or more enjoy discounted golf rates and access to the seasonal pool, spa, tennis and fitness center for a small fee. (Restrictions apply) Day passes available for shorter stays. (Fees apply, ask owner for details )

About Madeleine Sinclair

Hi, I am the owner/manager. Originally from England, I am knocked out by the scenery in and around Flagstaff. I also appreciate the arts and love the quirky college town feel of Flag. We've now moved to CA, but still enjoy the cottage we can. In summer we enjoy sitting on the deck looking up at Mount Elden, shaded by the quaking Aspen, and watching the golf balls drop into the duck pond. When my dogs were younger I ran with them through the forest surrounding the Country Club. Later as older dogs they watched the world go by from the deck. And a squirrel climbing a nearby tree was all they needed to make their day. Now they have gone, we still allow pets at the cottage and find our pet owning renters to be wonderful and respectful of the beautiful retreat we have created. In fall you can't beat the changing colors and crisp air. The Country Club has more mature deciduous trees turning color than any other part of Flagstaff. In winter the golf course becomes a serene winter wonderland with the Canadian geese visiting by day and the elk sleeping there at night. There's no place in Flagstaff like the Country Club for Spring blossoms. It's wonderful to be so near the trails in the National Forest at Campbell Mesa. As a runner I set off from the cottage and head for the trails. This is hikers and doggy paradise. I am blessed and grateful to share this retreat with my renters, many of whom return year after year. I'd like to thank all our guests for their heart warming comments in the guest book.

Why Madeleine Sinclair chose Flagstaff

There are many large vacation rentals in Flagstaff but few that are small and desirable. Often couples or small families are forced to pay more for rooms they don't need. If you don't need more than two beds and two baths, you won't find a nicer rental! Especially one that allows your well-behaved crated pets.

What makes this townhome unique

In summer, the use of the pool and the discounted golf is such a bonus. The tennis and fitness center are popular and now there is a great refurbished restaurant at the clubhouse with awesome views from inside or out. Kids love the Bear Paw Activity Center with it's pool, spa and activities. The large view deck brings our summer guests back for a return visit, some to paint with watercolors. While winter guests savor the quiet, the bird visitors, geese and elk, the fireplace and the armchair with the Ottoman. The golf course becomes a winter wonderland for sledding. Doggy guests love being four steps from Paradise. All out guests compliment us on the decor and furnishings. The cottage is a place to adopt as your second home and revisit in your memory when you're back at work. It's so popular, I wish I didn't have to turn so many callers away. Book early for summer. And sorry, no monthly discounts in peak season.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We've had a wonderful time at Little Elk - took our kids to The Canyon and into the mountains for some hiking. It was so nice to be outside when it was over 90 degrees back in Phoenix. Little Elk was the perfect place for us - beautiful inside and out! Hope to come back soon...

Fourth of July

  • 4 of 5

Flagstaff is a great place to celebrate the Fourth of July. There was nothing better than watching the fireworks from the back porch. Just a few things to make the stay better. The knives were in need of sharpening. There were ants at the base of the back porch steps. The TV remotes needed new batteries. Finally, we couldn't get the cable to work in the living area.

Owner's Response: We state in the house details that we do not live in Flagstaff, BUT HAVE AN EXPERIENCED AND READY TEAM ON THE GROUND SHOULD ANY ISSUES ARISE. This review is the first time I am hearing about any problems faced by this guest. All of the issues mentioned by this guest could have been easily dealt with had the guest made a quick call or email message. For these guests to stay a week at our place and not allow us the chance to address any issues while they were out enjoying themselves is disappointing to me. For a busy and popular vacation rental, feedback from the guests is both valuable and welcome. We have a 24/7 cable technical support service that we can call IF we are informed there is a problem. If no problem is reported, then the next guest also loses out, as was the case with the guest who checked in after this family. Thankfully they reported the cable service issue. We were able get a new cable box to them and the issue is now resolved.

Located on Flagstaff's only public golf course in the Continental Country Club and within walking distance of National Forest trails, yet only 7 mins drive to NAU and Historic Downtown Flagstaff with all its unique eateries, boutique shops, galleries and coffee shops. Within the city of Flagstaff, the continental Country club is close to both downtown and NAU, but Surrounded by serene forest on three sides. The Country Club provides easy access to hinking/biking trails and sledding on the Campbell Mesa National Forest Recreation Area. For skiers, AZ Snowbowl is just 25 minutes away. Grand Canyon 90 minutes. Sedona 40 minutes.

Flagstaff Environs: There are more national monuments around Flagstaff than I can mention here, let alone state parks, scenic byways, museums and unique destinations such as the Lowell Observatory. Within easy reach is the Red Rock Country of Sedona, 40 mins. You may have tine to explore the beautiful and little known Rim Country. Or head out to the unique town of Jerome. Luckily, to help plan your schedule, the Flagstaff Visitor Center in Downtown (Old train station) on Route 66 is amply staffed and equipped with everything you'll need from maps and insider tips to the latest weather forecasts for road conditions to the Grand Canyon.
