On a quiet, tree-lined street close to downtown Victoria, North Cottage is a bright and cozy suite with a private entrance and decks with views across treetops to the mountains. Inside you'll find an equipped kitchen, full bathroom with a deep soaker tub, bedroom garret and sitting room.
Lots of natural light fills the suite, on the full top floor of a 1930s character house. We are a two-minute walk to the the park on the water and a network of walking and cycling paths, and a frequent bus to downtown is a short block away.
Your hosts are Randy and Louise. Having travelled extensively all over the world we recognize good accommodation when we see it and we're happy to offer this piece of our comfortable home. Our life's philosophy is simple:
Walk softly, care generously, speak kindly and love deeply.
Northcott Avenue is robustly community-oriented and along with our neighbors we are involved in the growth and development of the larger community of Victoria West, and the arts community of Victoria.
Randy and Louise purchased this house in 2001
We chose this house because we rely on our bicycles to get us to work, town and picnics by the beach, and the nearby Galloping Goose Trail gets us there quickly without the stress of traffic. We have cycled routes in and around Victoria, the interior of BC, England and France and parts of South East Asia.
Everything we need is within walking distance.
Although it was a week long, time softens there and I imagine it feels too brief for any traveler who stays at North Cottage.
Randy and Louise have made a cozy, well equipped and very comfortable apartment above their home, located in a beautiful neighborhood in West Victoria. It is quiet and green with gardens, which you can look out over from your private deck with your coffee. The bed is very comfy as well and there is a lusciously deep tub for soaking baths.
Top of the list of good things is the bus service into the city which is a block away and runs like clockwork. You do not need a car, which is lovely.
Randy and Louise are present for any needs you have and absolutely respectful of privacy otherwise. I highly recommend this accommodation, it's a beauty.
I recently stayed for 17 days in Randy & Louise's top floor cottage. The cottage is quaint, cozy and comfortable with lot's of attention paid to the smallest details. It was extremely clean and well maintained. There are numerous skylights resulting in an abundance of light which is a real bonus. The cottage is located on a super quiet street and fairly close to lot's of amenities.
Randy and Louise are a really nice couple who were very nice to me and couldn't have been more accommodating. I was very fortunate to have found this place and would highly recommend it.
Randy and Louise were excellent hosts greeting me when I arrived and always responding quickly to questions about the loft and the surrounding area. They were great hosts and ambassadors of their city. Throughout the 10 weeks of my visit they shared home brewed beer, wine and invited me to share dinner with them on occasion and provided good advice on local recreational areas to investigate and dining spots to try. The loft is beautiful and is a perfect size for an individual or couple looking to spend a bit of time in Victoria. There is plenty of natural light and windows which allow nice breezes and airflow through the loft. The kitchen was well stocked with a variety of cookware and utensils making it easy and comfortable to cook for yourself during your stay. The loft is in a very nice neighborhood which is clean and safe during the day and evening. It is minutes away from the Galloping Goose bicycle trail, grocery stores and within walking distance to downtown. You couldn't ask for a nicer location or hosts for your upcoming visit to Victoria.
I booked a stay here for the month of May while I was studying in Victoria and I could not have been more pleased with my stay!
The apartment is a self-contained, top-floor of a cottage in Victoria West. It is newly renovated, clean, and well kept. There are 7+ sky lights in the apartment (3 of which open and are screened) and 3+ sets of windows that open, making the apartment very very bright and airy. There are also two balconies that face opposite directions, perfect for sitting on in the morning or evening. The kitchen is equipped with a fridge, stove top, microwave, large microwave oven, and all the cooking equipment you could need. The tiled floor in the bathroom is heated, which is a nice touch. There is wifi available in the apartment that is quick and reliable (never had any issues with the wifi). The apartment is spacious and overall a tranquil place to stay.
The apartment is located on a quiet street, so there is no road noise. It is a 3 minute walk to the nearest city transit bus station that takes you downtown. I biked the entire time I was staying in Victoria - the apartment is located 2 minutes from the Galloping Goose regional trail. I was able to get downtown by bike in about 10 minutes, and to the University of Victoria via the bike trails in about 30-40 minutes.
Randy and Louise are absolutely wonderful hosts. They made my stay easy and enjoyable and answered any questions I had. When I arrived, they explained how everything worked and provided me with a binder that had suggestions for restaurants and things to do nearby (there is a fabulous thai restaurant about a 3 minute walk away).
I stayed at North Cottage on and off for 1.5 year. My boyfriend rented the cottage, so I spent time there with him. As a local of Victoria, I will happily recommend North Cottage.
The neighborhood is quiet, friendly, and convenient. There's a water-front park and lovely walking trails just a few blocks away, and it's a brisk 20-25 minute walk to gorgeous ocean and city views and to the downtown core (please remember to pop into the city's finest bakery, Fol Epi, on your way).
The loft is bright, comfortable, and kept impeccably clean. With a full sized kitchen, cozy bedroom nook, and soaker tub, you'll have all the comforts of home away from home. Nested at the treetops, privacy was never a concern for us at the loft.
Randy and Louise are wonderful hosts. We asked for a firmer pillow, fresh herbs from the garden, an extra mug (after I broke one), and new batteries for the flashlight, and Randy and Louise have always happily obliged. I once mentioned that the outdoor security lights missed a few spots on the stairs, and the next day Louise had installed two additional lights.
In my experience, this is the BEST place to stay in Victoria.
I stayed at North Cottage on and off for much of the last three years, and it was by far the best apartment rental experience I've ever had.
The loft is super cozy and well-appointed, and it has tons of natural light - it is especially lovely during Victoria's glorious summers. Randy and Louise maintain everything in top condition. The neighborhood is residential and quiet. It's a short walk to lovely paths along the water, and it's easy to get downtown.
Randy and Louise are warm and exceptionally guest-oriented. They want you to enjoy your stay and your comfort is their top priority. They will go out of their way to ensure you are comfortable. They are some of the finest people I have the pleasure to know.
North Cottage is a wonderful place to stay. I loved it and I miss it. I really cannot emphasize it more strongly: when you are in Victoria, stay here.
Thank you, Louise (and Randy)! I enjoyed my short stay immensely. Everything Victoria within walking/biking distance, but North Cottage Suite is just tucked away enough in a quiet neighborhood one can go "home" for the night. Looking forward to my next adventure near you!
