A well run property. Friendly staff. Modern, clean grounds. Condo was far better than anticipated. The beach area was small, however, and one pool was not open and no one seemed to be working on it. Great place for small kids.
Our stay at Honua Kai was wonderful. Our condo was clean & the pool and service was great! This is our second time staying at this resort and will definitely be back. Best place to stay in Maui!!!
Our unit was perfect. Very comfortable unit. I was hesitant at first because we are a family of six but no three bedroom units were available but the unit was easily large enough for us. Other family members stayed in one bedroom units which were nice but very small compared to our unit.
Snorkeling out front is awesome, the boardwalk is wonderful, my kids loved the pools. It was minutes from the best snorkeling on the island (I recommend Honolua and Black Rock) as well as minutes from shopping and nightlife. Unlike others, I highly recommend just buying food from the Times Market and making most of the meals yourself. Grilling is awesome here. I find that there are few restaurants that meet my standards and all are very expensive. I don't mind paying 5 star prices for a 5 star meal. I do object to 5 star prices for a 3 star meal. (We live in an area where prices are normally within 10-15% of Maui so the sticker shock wasn't coming from an area where a 5 star meal is $25). I recommend Four Winds II if you want to go to Molokini and avoid Boss Frogs for gear (they always up sell you for more than the other places and ram tours down your throat). Maui Kayaks is also very good. Avoid Roys and Kimos for food.
Overall, a great vacation at this luxury condo. The unit had plenty of space for our family of four, and two bathrooms are highly desirable when traveling with two teenage daughters. Nice kitchen for breakfasts and snacks. Kim was easy to deal with during the reservation process. The staff at Kaanapali Beach properties were very helpful at check-in and for questions during the stay.
The unit comes with beach towels, boogie boards, beach toys, and pool floaties in addition to the expected amenities for bathrooms and kitchen. Wi-fi access in the condo was helpful. The only complaint was the presence of hoards of gnats (they called them pineapple bugs) on the lanai that would get into the room if you weren't careful, and sometimes even if you were. Also, there is now a $10/night parking fee that was not disclosed earlier; but I think it is a recently implemented charge at the Honua Kai. It was nice to have the underground garage parking, so that the car didn't get so hot.
We tried Duke's on site for dinner. One time was OK, the other time we were mistreated to an hour wait when they seated walk-ups who arrived after us, as we were waiting. We will not eat there again. The Aina gourmet market on site had fresh salads and sandwiches with pleasant service.
There was great snorkeling about 1/4 mile down the beach (south, towards black-rock), that we highly recommend. The supermarket around the corner (The Times) was within walking distance. Lots of restaurants and beautiful sights are a short drive away.
We would love to come back to this unit!
Maui offers some of the most desired activities requested by most island visitors. Luaus, snorkeling, diving, waterfalls, and enjoying pacific cuisine are just a few.
