We had a great time at this home. Close to Durango yet wonderfully secluded from town. Many nearby things to see - Mesa Verde, 4 Corners, Black Canyon of the Gunnison, Durango, etc. We appreciated the quiet of the area and would certainly return again if we're in the area.
Pro's: secluded area near the lake, close to Durango, kitchen stocked with basics. 2 bedrooms plus loft and 2.5 bathrooms
Con's: 1 bathroom is in the basement area but this really isn't too inconvenient
We loved the house. Very clean and comfortable and well stocked. Beautiful view of the lake and lovely deck to sit and enjoy the view. We will definitely return.
The house is on a mountainside looking out over lake Vallecito. The house and the view are wonderful. The house has everything just as promised and is very clean, comfortable and well cared for. The house gets a 5 star.
The one-mile unpaved road to the house gets a 3 star. The road was plowed but parts were steep and slippery anyway. An excellent 4X4 with snow tires works on roads like this. We stayed over The Christmas holidays and had difficulty getting to the house. The weather was snowy all week and one section of the road has a 30-35 degree slope. We had to stay in a hotel one night and ended up changing rental cars twice (Jeep Cherokee 4X4 didn't work well) until we finally got a four wheel drive (4X4 Four Runner) that made it up the slippery slope. We had no problems driving with the 4X4 Four Runner.
The drive to Durango from the house takes at least 45 minutes. So make your plans accordingly. I thought the house would be closer to Durango.
This is a wonderful house with a great view but is 45 minutes from Durango and you need an excellent 4X4 with snow tires in winter conditions.
Been there 3 or 4 times and always love this place. We always go in the late fall. This year the fall colors were mostly done but it was still beautiful and the weather was nice enough to do some fishing and hiking outside. Saw lots of wild life, Elk, Deer, Turkeys, etc. It was hunting season, so lots of hunters and most of them looked like they scored. Hung out some in Pagosa Springs area as well, they have a Brewery there now, Pagosa Brewery, had some pretty good wheat beer and Doug got some stout he liked. Love this place, very accommodating and cozy.
Really enjoyed our stay at this nearly secluded mountain cabin. This Cabin, with it's 2 car garage made attending the Four Corners Motorcycle Rally a virtual haven for our motorcycles when seeking shelter from an occasional overnight rain storm,
It's Vallecito location made it a fantastic central location to venture out each day in a different for a fantastic, scenic ride. Having a grocery store just 3 miles away became very handy when we ate (and drank) a little more than we thought.
We actually enjoyed our time lounging around the cabin as much as touring the Colorado countryside. The Bluetooth sound bar made it super easy to stream music from my ipod each morning and evening, helping to set the mood for our leisure time. A little easy listening during breakfast and a little classic rock during happy hour snacking.
The large deck overlooking the lake was perfect for some fantastic selfies The owner went out of her way to accommodate our pre-stocked grocery needs.
All and all, a GREAT vacation getaway!
Thanks again for letting us share your beautiful, well kept home!

My husband and I spent four wonderful nights exploring the southwest corner of Colorado. The house was clean and appropriately equipped. There was plenty of space to spread out and the kitchen was well thought out with the essentials available. The drive up the mountain, while a slow-go, was easy to master, and we always saw wild life from mule deer to bunnies. We saw a doe with twins nibbling alongside the property one morning. We used the home as a base camp for Mesa Verde, Durango and the Silverton Train, and a day drive up to Telluride. Highly recommend this property for families as well as retirees, a girls weekend.
Located 20 beautiful miles from Durango. We are near the south end of Vallecito Lake very handy to Bayfield and you will just love the lake, mountain and valley views!
