After staying in a friends condo in the same building, we just fell in love with the views and energy that Waikiki offers.
20 minutes from the Airport. A 5 minute walk to the mall or the beach. And a short walk from downtown waikiki.
The location is great, walking distance to waikiki, the beach/s, Hilton's lagoon, Ala Moana park/centre.
Its a good set out room wise. I personally think 4 friends, or a family of 2a2/3c is what it is suited for.
The building feels very secure. Everyone is friendly + helpful.
Having a parking spot is great. Having Wifi is fantastic!!
There is a major bus stop just down the road, tours also come/go from here (or the equiv on the opp side of the road).
There is an ABC (convenience) store on the corner, Maccas, Subway & a few others opp corner to ABC. & a few good restaurants close by too.
Hilton's fireworks on fridays are great, but too late for young children (which is just life & doesnt really matter).
We had the fans on 24/7. If we left the apartment, we left all windows + doors (not front door) open. When home, due to the noise, we were mostly closed up with aircon on.
You hear car alarms, revving motorbikes + sirens all the time, & its very very loud at night in the "quiet hours".
The beach chairs etc are great, wish people took better care of the items though. If i used something, i left it clean.
There is no room in cupboards due to all the bits & bobs ppl leave behind haha. There is everything. Well, not toilet paper or milk/cereal/bread. But what is there, saves you buying it. There was honey, peanut butter, coffee, sugar etc etc. There is also plenty of cleaning gear, which comes in handy for longer stays.
We didn't cook, as groceries end up being too expensive. Go to Ala Moana or subway, easy as.
Things that I wish i knew or I think should be mentioned:
It is on the MAIN street, we found it VERY noisy, so much so that i had to play music for my 5yr old to sleep. Even when the apartment is all closed up.
The leather couch needs a professional clean. Same as the floor mat.
There is serious drainage issues. Its so slow in the shower you end up in ankle deep water :( I used drain cleaning product every 2nd day & even then it wasn't good.
There is a pool + spa, but this apartment for some reason doesnt have access. Be great if you could.
Keep ALL quarters for your washing + drying. But its great that you can wash/dry yourself.
Lift is very slow sometimes in arriving.
Its a 4 star on location.
& Lilly & Barry are great!
What an amazing jewel right in the heart of Waikiki! I could not believe our good fortune (and savvy bargain) as I looked around our beautiful condo, in the midst of highrise fancy hotels that I'm sure cost an arm and a leg. Barry's condo was perfect for my family of five. It was airy with a never-ending cross breeze (we didn't turn on AC once), and stocked with so many items we didn't have to purchase...like beach towels, goggles, masks & fins, fishing gear, beach chairs & mats, leftover sunblock, basic toiletries, binoculars, area pamphlets and maps, disposable plates & cutlery, kitchen gadgets, movies, I can't even remember everything I happily discovered. His home is secure and tidy. Not even sure if we had neighbors it was so quiet. There is sound from the street below, but it didn't bother us because it adds to the nightlife and excitement of Honolulu, being right in the thick of it. We walked to so many places! If anyone is a runner, you will understand how THRILLED we were to have Ala Moana Park at our fingertips to run every single day! We topped our runs off with nine flights of stairs when we returned to the condo, instead of using the elevator, and we lost weight on our vacation! The view from the front of the condo is as gorgeous as the view from the back, and it added to a crossbreeze so strong you had to put doorstops down to prevent slamming...that ocean breeze was delicious. For dining, we thought we were so lucky to be across the street from Outback and Red Lobster, and that's great if its your thing (especially not having to park for it). But we found by walking one block to the Ala Moana mall dining court (which is HUGE) everyone could get what they wanted, with no waiting, and much cheaper, and we could take a beach walk across the street after. Friday night fireworks lived up to their fame. And I consulted Barry's "Guide to Oahu" book many, many times...it led us to some amazing experiences and tours. The trolley buses pick up a block away as well. As a Mom, the laundry facility downstairs was invaluable that I didn't have to pack so much for the kids! If you are considering a condo for lodging in Waikiki (and you should be), and you want it to be secure and have dedicated parking just for you, be in the middle of it all, but also be able to relax knowing you paid a fraction of what other travelers did...THIS IS IT! Mahalo Barry and Lily =)
I stayed here for an extended period of time and had an absolute blast. You are at the end of the main strip of Waikiki Beach, leaving you with perfect placement to explore. Minutes from the beach as well as the Ala Moana Shopping Center. With one parking spot included I would recommend renting a car and exploring the island. Close access to major highways is another perk.
The amenities provided went above and beyond our expectations. We didn't need to bring anything because linens, towels, kitchen supplies, and beach accessories were there for us to use. There is a laundry room on the first floor allowing for convenience of using the washer/dryer without having to leave the complex.
The condo was very safe because you need a key fob to enter and use the elevators. There was enough room for at least 7 people to live there with two pullout beds, 1 queen bed and 1 twin. For women, there are 2 mini hair dryers available for use. The air conditioning works extremely well, which is not always the case on the island.
Every Friday you are provided with a gorgeous view of fireworks provided by the Hilton Hawaiian Village, you really don’t want to miss this.
We just got back from a wonderful week at this condo. It is perfectly located with a beautiful view from the front and back. The rooms have air conditioning, and there was a wonderful breeze throughout if you kept the doors open. Being on a busy street, you do hear some traffic, but it never bothered us at all, and building itself was very quiet. We were within walking distance to shopping, restaurants and beaches. There were four of us in total, and we had lots of room. The condo was clean, bright and had everything you needed including wifi. We would defiantly stay here again.
Barry was very easy to work with. In fact, months before our stay, when I was still looking for a place to stay, my parents just happened to be in Honolulu on their vacation. Barry allowed them to come over and look at the condo for us. Lily, who manages the place, was great and very helpful when we arrived as well. We had a party of 4, 2 adults and our two sons ages 20 and 16 and the condo had plenty of room. Easy walking distance for us to the Ala Moana Mall, which had a huge food court in it. Red Lobster and Outback Steakhouse are right across the street. McDonalds, ABC store and Wild Wings a very short walk. A close drive to Wal Mart and Sam's Club as well. The Ocean/Beach is about 2 blocks away, also a easy walk. One day we made the walk to the International Shopping place and that section of the Waikiki Beach. That was a very long walk, and we decided to drive the next time we went. The condo itself has a partially blocked view of the ocean. Can see the harbor very well, which is also where the sun sets at night. Great view of the Friday night fireworks. There were boogie boards, beach towels and beach chairs for our use, which was great. If you do get a rental car, the condo comes with a small parking space, which was perfect. If you don't have a rental car, you are close enough to everything to get along without it. We would stay again!! Thanks Barry and Lily!
We had a wonderful time! We spent 8 days in Oahu and everything about is condo was great! The location was perfect as it was within walking distance to the Ala Moana Beach Park which we found to be our favorite and within walking distance to the Waikiki area. We would definitely choose this property again. Our experience with the rental process was great and without any difficulties. Thank you!
The Lanai offers incredible views. You can assess the surf breaks of Kaisers (look left) and Ala Moana Bowls (straight ahead) from here and decide if you want to go surfing or just relax. Don't forget about the Friday night fireworks show which takes place right in front of us. The Lanai also overlooks the Ala Wai Marina and offers the perfect view of the fabulous Hawaiian sunsets.
