This property is a two story side hall Victorian built in 1897. It features three upstairs bedrooms (king, king, queen); two upstairs full bathrooms and a downstairs half bathroom/utility room inclusive of washer/dryer; a den with a couch that converts to a queen bed; a living room that includes full sized sleeper sofa; a full kitchen complete with stove, refrigerator, dishwasher, coffee maker, microwave, toaster, cooking ware, glassware, silverware, and plate ware; a dining area; a living room; and a private back patio inclusive of a gas grill. The home comfortably sleeps four couples, and can accommodate singles through using existing beds and single person air beds. It is fully furnished with good areas for both groups and privacy. Elegance and comfort are available here.

The property is centrally located at the edge of the Garden District. It is a two and a half block walk to the streetcar. It is less than two miles from the central business district, the French Quarter, the Superdome, and Magazine Street. There is a great selection of restaurants (fine dining and casual) and cocktail establishments within a four block radius.

Most of all this is not a hotel or a guest house--it is home. It opens the door to everything that New Orleans has to offer a visitor while making you feel that you are surely from here.

About Donya Knudsen

My family has lived in Louisiana for about 300 years, dating back to the Cajun Expulsion. We have owned homes in New Orleans for over twenty years, raised our children here, become grandparents here, and truly love living in this wonderful city. We hope and believe that the next thousand generations of Causey’s and Knudsen’s will have a connection to this place that we cherish as it has become a journey both appreciated and worthwhile.

Why Donya Knudsen chose Central City/Garden District

I recall looking for weeks with nothing that really met my expectations. I wondered whether my home as I imagined it did not exist. I finally tried an agent that completely understood. She showed me one property and I knew the moment I walked in the door. My first home is now my guest house. May you feel much as I did at that first viewing many years ago.

What makes this house unique

This nineteenth century New Orleans home is ideally suited for families and friends who want to enjoy Mardi Gras, French Quarter Festival, Jazz Festival, Saints home games, weddings, and reunions while centrally and comfortably located at the edge of the Garden District. Easy access by streetcar to Audubon Zoo, Parks, Tulane and Loyola Universities, The Superdome, restaurants such as Commander's Palace, Delmonico, and the beautiful veranda at the Columns Hotel. The French Quarter and historic Marigny neighborhoods are only minutes away by streetcar or short taxi ride.

Inside you will find items from Pakistan, Greece, Spain, Indonesia, Korea, Nigeria, Honduras, Scotland, Florida, Texas, and Louisiana. You will find an extensive home library of good books including children’s books.

You will find places to be together as well as plenty of places where you can have privacy. All of the bedrooms are located upstairs including the master suite which enjoys its own bathroom. In addition to a more formal parlor, there is also sun room which is bright and cheerful. The kitchen is fully furnished with modern appliances, and there is a washer and dryer for your convenience. It is comfortable and unique home and we believe you will truly enjoy staying here.

This home has nineteen windows and twelve foot ceilings which give the house an airy comfortable feel. Throughout the home you will find original crown molding, ceiling medallions, and Venetian glass light fixtures. It has two sets of French doors in the sun room that lead out to a private courtyard shaded by a magnificent crepe myrtle, and surrounded by camellias.

This fully furnished home is ideally priced for groups of people requiring more than one room at peak celebration times in the city. The convenience of its location and the bonus associated with the privacy of a home makes this location ideal for groups or families wishing to have a unique experience living as a 'local' New Orleanian.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in your beautiful home!! We appreciated all the hard work that you have put into maintaining and decorating it. And we were very comfortable.

My father had a great time, getting to visit his old neighborhood and the family plot in the cemetery, plus the aquarium, zoo, and insectarium. Our best meal was at Mandinas, and we have several other fine meals.

Great location in a great city!

The house was very large and spacious for our family of six. We had an extra guest for the weekend but there was no problem fitting her into the house. We loved being near the trolley so that we could come and go without the hassle of parking our car downtown. There are many good restaurants in walking distance. If you enjoy walking, you don't even have to use the trolley. Our kids walked to the French Quarter to enjoy the many shops and tourist attractions there. Occasionally we did drive but upon our return we were always able to find a space to park near the house. The. neighborhood was very quiet. We always felt safe during both day and night. The owners have provided many extras to make the stay pleasant. I would recommend this home to any that are looking to enjoy NOLA!

Owner's Response: Y'all were some of the first July guests I have ever had. The house had just completed its annual spring clean and maintenance and the week was one of the warmest on record. The HVAC was certainly going to have to perform well. It appears that it did. I am aware that a yearly family vacation is one of your interests. What a wonderful thing. Comfortable, good location satisfied our needs perfectly

We found the property easy and comfortable to live in. Amenities were spot on. We did need to do some dish cleaning before use but not excessively. Air conditioning was overpowering until we warmed it up a bit. The parlor was perfect for accommodating our large group of family reunion participants. The on-street parking was not a problem for our four vehicles even. Though there was street construction in the front of the apartment. The multinational furnishings were a joy. All in all it was a great visit and I recommend it for large groups.

Please rest assured that I do my very best to see that they are clean after every visitor and am happy to make any adjustments guests may need. It is good to know that the AC can do well even in June. It is a large house and keeping it comfortable is important. Construction is the result of a street repair that is in progress. The rain over the last two weeks has limited the construction crew's efforts to complete the work. It will definitely be good to have it finished in that it subtracts from available parking in the neighborhood (update: street repair was completed 06/06/2017). It was great to have you as a guest. Great place to stay

We rented this property for our 3 families, 7 people total, for our daughter's graduation from college in New Orleans. Our stay was 5 days and 4 nights and we had a great time. Our oldest guest was 77 and our youngest was 5. The 3 bedrooms are all upstairs, all different, and all very nice. Downstairs there's a living room, dining room, kitchen and garden room, as well as a beautiful patio area outside. All decorated eclectically. This is an old, well kept house with lots of character. It's located a block or two from the St Charles street car line, and it has multiple restaurants in the immediate area. The owners have an excellent system in place for arrivals and departures, making it easy for guests. In a nutshell, it was a lot of fun for everyone to stay here, and we hope to go back and stay again at some point. If you are looking for a lodging choice that will give you a feeling you're really in New Orleans, this is an excellent choice.

You and the guests I have coming this next weekend represent the last groups before summer sets in and NOLA slows to a very leisurely pace. I use the summer period to do whatever maintenance must be done with first on the list being the annual spring cleaning. The property did well this year with respect to how well everything worked, how clean it was, how ell the reservation systems worked, and how excellent my guests were. Great house for a group!

We had a group of 10 friends gather in New Orleans, and we fit comfortably in this house with the bedrooms and airbeds set up in the sun room. The house's backyard made for great relaxing after a day of activities, and the convenient walk to the street car line and Magazine Street were great. This is a great house for a group that is in town to see the city.

I was in the back courtyard the evening before your arrival relaxing after doing the yard work with my husband and was able to enjoy the same zen you experienced. This is a fine time of year to be in the city and the space in the back just makes it all that much finer. It is always good to know that ten can still be comfortable in the house.
