This property is a two story side hall Victorian built in 1897. It features three upstairs bedrooms (king, king, queen); two upstairs full bathrooms and a downstairs half bathroom/utility room inclusive of washer/dryer; a den with a couch that converts to a queen bed; a full kitchen complete with stove, refrigerator, dishwasher, coffee maker, microwave, toaster, cooking ware, glassware, silverware, and plate ware; a dining area; a living room; and a private and back patio inclusive of a gas grill. The home comfortably sleeps four couples, but can accommodate groups of up to ten people using existing beds and single person air beds. It is fully furnished with good areas for both groups and privacy. Elegance and comfort are available here.

The property is centrally located at the edge of the Garden District. It a two and a half block walk to the streetcar. It is less than two miles from the central business district, the French Quarter, the Superdome, and Magazine Street. There is a great selection of restaurants (fine dining and casual) and cocktail establishments within a four block radius.

Most of all this is not a hotel or a guest house--it is home. It opens the door to everything that New Orleans has to offer a visitor while making you feel that you are surely from here.

About Donya Knudsen

My family has lived in Louisiana for about 300 years, dating back to the Cajun Expulsion. We have owned homes in New Orleans for over twenty years, raised our children here, become grandparents here, and truly love living in this wonderful city. We hope and believe that the next thousand generations of Causey’s and Knudsen’s will have a connection to this place that we cherish as it has become a journey both appreciated and worthwhile.

Why Donya Knudsen chose New Orleans

I recall looking for weeks with nothing that really met my expectations. I wondered whether my home as I imagined it did not exist. I finally tried an agent that completely understood. She showed me one property and I knew the moment I walked in the door. My first home is now my guest house. May you feel much as I did at that first viewing many years ago.

What makes this house unique

This nineteenth century New Orleans home is ideally suited for families and friends who want to enjoy Mardi Gras, French Quarter Festival, Jazz Festival, Saints home games, weddings, and reunions while centrally and comfortably located at the edge of the Garden District. Easy access by streetcar to Audubon Zoo, Parks, Tulane and Loyola Universities, The Superdome, restaurants such as Commander's Palace, Delmonico, and the beautiful veranda at the Columns Hotel. The French Quarter and historic Marigny neighborhoods are only minutes away by streetcar or short taxi ride.

Inside you will find items from Pakistan, Greece, Spain, Indonesia, Korea, Nigeria, Honduras, Scotland, Florida, Texas, and Louisiana. You will find an extensive home library of good books including children’s books.

You will find places to be together as well as plenty of places where you can have privacy. All of the bedrooms are located upstairs including the master suite which enjoys its own bathroom. In addition to a more formal parlor, there is also sun room which is bright and cheerful. The kitchen is fully furnished with modern appliances, and there is a washer and dryer for your convenience. It is comfortable and unique home and we believe you will truly enjoy staying here.

This home has nineteen windows and twelve foot ceilings which give the house an airy comfortable feel. Throughout the home you will find original crown molding, ceiling medallions, and Venetian glass light fixtures. It has two sets of French doors in the sun room that lead out to a private courtyard shaded by a magnificent crepe myrtle, and surrounded by camellias.

This fully furnished home is ideally priced for groups of people requiring more than one room at peak celebration times in the city. The convenience of its location and the bonus associated with the privacy of a home makes this location ideal for groups or families wishing to have a unique experience living as a 'local' New Orleanian.

My father had a great time, getting to visit his old neighborhood and the family plot in the cemetery, plus the aquarium, zoo, and insectarium. Our best meal was at Mandinas, and we have several other fine meals.

Legit NOLA experience!

We rented this really old & beautiful home for our family girls' weekend. We all loved it! So much better than a cramped & noisy hotel experience in the quarter BY FAR (we're from Louisiana, so have all been there & done that & don't feel the need to repeat!) Short 2 block walk to streetcar & it brings you right where you want to be to get started traipsing the French Quarter. Beds were very comfy, plenty of room for the 10 of us, & they had air mattresses available also if we didn't want to share beds. Owners were VERY accommodating & went above & beyond to help us with transportation for my mom to get there from Slidell (huge THANKS!) I definitely recommend this property & I'm keeping it on my faves list for future NOLA trips!

Great time in New Orleans

I was truly amazed with this rental! It had everything that we were looking for in the trip including close proximity to the major areas of New Orleans, a very authentic New Orleans style house, and very accommodating hosts!

spacious home, great location

We could not have been happier with our stay in NoLa. We were a group of 8 and there was more than enough space for us to gather together (both inside and out) as well as have some privacy if needed. The house is a short walk from the shops and whatnot on Magazine St and a quick ride into the French Quarter. Donya and Temple went above and beyond to ensure we had everything we needed, were comfortable...from having the house stocked with cream and coffee to putting out extra pillows, blankets, and air mattresses (which we didn't even need) they were wonderful hosts. Would definitely recommend to others and stay here again myself.

Very well located!

This was a truly authentic New Orleans house. On the very strong points, it was located great. It was a 2 minute walk to the St. Charles street car and from there a 15 minute ride to all that was happening. We went for a graduation, and it was easy access to the colleges as well - about 15 - 20 minutes to either Tulane or Layola. Very easy and convenient. If you didn't want to go far, there was also a lot within walking distance. The area itself felt safe and neighborly. The house itself was large and roomy. It has three bedrooms but the back den offers really a 4th. there is also a nice back yard to sit in for the AM. All the utilities worked well and the air conditioner was a blessing. Lastly, the owner was easy to contact and deal with. She was very accommodating which was so nice.

Some of the weaker points - I do feel that the cosmetic aspect of the house could use a facelift -- especially the front. A good coat of paint would make the world of difference but really that is only cosmetic. The house itself was nice. For elderly, the inside stairs are numerous due to the high ceilings, but again, there is always the Den if that is an issue. I also recommended that the front outside stairs have a railing added for safety. Also, the floors in the den are not 100% level, but that was not a biggie - instead it was more of a "character" of the house to us.

All in all, the house was nice and I was happy with the choice that we made.

My husband and I have worked very hard to make sure that such is always true. Noted that the exterior needs paint. I have long had this on my list and hope to be able to do this some day. It is major work with a large price tag. A few more good business years may get me to the point where this can be a project. The building is strong and for now is not deteriorating while it waits on a refurbishment. Floors in places are indeed not level. My husband also tells me there is not good flatness to the walls or good squareness to the corners. Thank you for recognizing that such is the character of the house built in 1897. Thank you for mentioning the fourth room. The downstairs sun room behind the kitchen is convertible to a good sleeping space. in the past twelve months I added the most comfortable queen sleeper sofa I could find and the privacy curtains. I am very proud of this room. Also thank you for noting the good AC system. If the central air fails each bedroom has a back-up window unit and the downstairs common rooms do as well. There is never the possibility of not being comfortable in a very warm New Orleans. The front stair rail has been looked at by myself in the past. I added tread several years ago to minimize danger from slipping in wet weather. I at that time I had concluded that hand rails for to the four stair entry would not work well. I looked at this again as part of responding to this review. I have again concluded that hand rails are not practical here mainly because it would have to be positioned in the center and not at the side. This would have the effect of restricting the walkway to some extent. I did modify my pre-arrival letter to emphasize that the stairs at the rear doorway to the house does have handrails. For guests that struggle with stairs this is now the recommended path. Additionally I have added a rear door key to each guest set for convenience. I sincerely hope this is a good solution albeit not exactly what the review called for. In closing, thank you again for your business and thank you for taking the time to feed back. Perfect weekend

My family of 8 stayed in this huge and beautiful home. There was plenty of space for everyone to hangout in the living room, sun room, or the wonderful courtyard but privacy if you needed it. When we walked in there was jazz music playing and lights on for a true New Orleans welcome! The owners had clear instructions on everything for the house including near by activities, restaurants, and shops. The house had everything you would need besides groceries, including extra shampoo, lotion, and towels. We were there for the marathon so it was short walk to St. Charles and easy access to the street car. To top off this great weekend, my boyfriend proposed to me in the courtyard and it could not have been more perfect! Definitely would rent again!

Just awesome!

What a great weekend! 7 of us stayed in this electic, welcoming, fun house for a bachelorette party! Ms. Donya and Mr. Temple were most welcoming and beyond accommodating. The house was fantastic and so much fun! There were so many knick knacks and great books! It was like a museum of stuff we could touch!! We even found a couple books that summed up the weekend, most notably "Crazy Ladies". We slept 2 to a bed with one on fold up couch. Everyone found all of the beds very comfortable and there were plenty of linens to go around. The courtyard was perfect for the group and w the beautiful weather, we were out there as much as possible! I recommend this house ten fold! Great location, parking was easily found, and the street car stop was just a short walk. Thank you so much for your New Orleans hospitality. I can't wait to go back!!!
