About Donya Knudsen
My family has lived in Louisiana for about 300 years, dating back to the Cajun Expulsion. We have owned homes in New Orleans for over twenty years, raised our children here, become grandparents here, and truly love living in this wonderful city. We hope and believe that the next thousand generations of Causey’s and Knudsen’s will have a connection to this place that we cherish as it has become a journey both appreciated and worthwhile.
Donya Knudsen purchased this House in 1997
Why Donya Knudsen chose Faubourg Lafayette
I recall looking for weeks with nothing that really met my expectations. I wondered whether my home as I imagined it did not exist. I finally tried an agent that completely understood. She showed me one property and I knew the moment I walked in the door. My first home is now my guest house. May you feel much as I did at that first viewing many years ago.
What makes this House unique
This nineteenth century New Orleans home is ideally suited for families and friends who want to enjoy Mardi Gras, French Quarter Festival, Jazz Festival, Saints home games, weddings, and reunions while centrally and comfortably located at the edge of the Garden District. Easy access by streetcar to Audubon Zoo, Parks, Tulane and Loyola Universities, The Superdome, restaurants such as Commander's Palace, Delmonico, and the beautiful veranda at the Columns Hotel. The French Quarter and historic Marigny neighborhoods are only minutes away by streetcar or short taxi ride. Inside you will find items from Pakistan, Greece, Spain, Indonesia, Korea, Nigeria, Honduras, Scotland, Florida, Texas, and Louisiana. You will find an extensive home library of good books including children’s books. You will find places to be together as well as plenty of places where you can have privacy. All of the bedrooms are located upstairs including the master suite which enjoys its own bathroom. In addition to a more formal parlor, there is also sun room which is bright and cheerful. The kitchen is fully furnished with modern appliances, and there is a washer and dryer for your convenience. It is comfortable and unique home and we believe you will truly enjoy staying here. This home has nineteen windows and twelve foot ceilings which give the house an airy comfortable feel. Throughout the home you will find original crown molding, ceiling medallions, and Venetian glass light fixtures. It has two sets of French doors in the sun room that lead out to a private courtyard shaded by a magnificent crepe myrtle, and surrounded by camellias. This fully furnished home is ideally priced for groups of people requiring more than one room at peak celebration times in the city. The convenience of its location and the bonus associated with the privacy of a home makes this location ideal for groups or families wishing to have a unique experience living as a 'local' New Orleanian.

HOME AWAY FROM HOME
The place: Hated to leave! Nothing amiss! Comfy beds! Books and movies galore! Great kitchen & BBQ back yard! Would move in without changing a thing!
The owners: Great responsiveness, friendly, personal!
The location: Quiet, away from big bustle, yet close to everything needed with great transportation connection to French Quarter etc.!
Thank you for the glowing review. This was a Golden Wedding Anniversary. As far as I am aware this is a first for this home. My husband and I are truly honored to have had this opportunity and most happy that we were able to provide you with what you were looking for. Thank you so much for choosing this home.
Spring Break in New Orleans
My family and I had a wonderful time in New Orleans. The accommadations were great. An old Victorian in the Garden District just two blocks from the streetcar. It only rained one day but was better than the snow falling at our home. The dryer stopped working the second day and Temple (Donya's husband) was there the next day with a new dryer. Would rent this property again if we ever return to New Orleans.
Thank you for taking the time to review and the positive rating. The drier replacement is a bonus in that I believe we have a better machine as a result. you are surely welcome to return.
Full of Character and Plenty of Space
This home was very large, well stocked with everything we could possibly need, and very comfortable for our large group of 11 adults. Convenient short walk to trolley line and garden district, and very easy short ride-share to french quarter. The owners were very polite and attentive and reach out to me several times to see if anything was needed during our stay. The house is older, but clean and full of entertaining and interesting books and decor. Highly recommend!
Thank you for the fine review. I am happy that you found it comfortable. I know that my personal guests (mostly family) have often found it comfortable enough so that they spent more time in the house than they did running the city! Speaks well for the house and what it has to offer. We continue to hope to offer a good homelike environment that is central to all that people would want to do and see. It appears that you were able to enjoy that as well.
Great home for a large family
We truly enjoyed our stay at this property. This cute pink house had plenty of room for our nine adults and one infant. The décor was eclectic and interesting; the furniture comfortable. Plenty of seating existed in the main living areas so that we could have together time as a family. The house was perfect for our needs. It was also a close walk to the trolley and not too far from Magazine Street. The home owners were incredibly helpful, offering directions and assistance when we needed it. I had to call a few times for help, and they were quick to call back with assistance. Everyone of our party enjoyed the place. I would highly recommend this property to others.
Thank you for the kind review. I know this was your first time to the city. I know you were a large group. I know that you were in for a wedding that had a reception at the wonderful Elms Mansion just down the street. I am happy to know that all we did was helpful. I am very happy to know that everyone was comfortable. Thank you for visiting.
Located off of St. Charles and Jackson Avenues within walking distance of the street car line; fine and casual dining; jovial drinking establishments; Magazine Street antique shopping; and the Mardi Gras Parade routes. The French Quarter is two miles distant and accessible via the street car that passes several times an hour. The Fair Grounds where the annual Jazz Festival is celebrated is a fifteen minute ride by car or bicycle and additionally accessible by public transport for the more adventurous. The beauty of Audubon and City Parks with access to walking, picknicking, golfing, tennis, and museums is also only a fifteen minute drive by auto. The house is a two story, fully furnished, 1897 side hall victorian with a private patio area in the back. It comfortably sleeps four couples. You will be ideally positioned to fully enjoy New Orleans in the same way that people who live in this wonderful place do.
