About Clif Ridenhour

My wife and I are Realtors in the Charlotte area. We love the mountains and getting away. Often we leave Charlotte and head to the mountains. We are always amazed at the sights and drop of temperature in a two and a half hour drive.

Clif Ridenhour purchased this chalet in 2004

Why Clif Ridenhour chose Banner Elk

We chose this area for snow skiing and the beautiful sites that the High Country offers. There are several ski resorts close by and the largest one in NC is across the street 'Sugar Mountain'. Grand Father Mountain is less than a 10 minute drive and it has unbelievable views. Grand Father Mountain also has a mile high swinging bridge and wildlife habitats to include bears, deer, and all kinds of other animals.

What makes this chalet unique

Location, Location, Location it is here. Across the street from Sugar Mountain. 5 Minute drive to downtown Banner Elk. 10 Minute drive to Grand Father Mountain and several other hiking trails and water falls in the nearby area.

My favorite restaurant in Banner Elk is Sorrento's which is downtown. After a wonderful meal, I love the hot tub on a cold night. Listening to the sound of the blowing of snow on Sugar Mountain and soaking in the hot tub is very relaxing.

Caring Host

This was our second trip to Cliff's chalet. What started as a relaxing trip turned tragic for our family in Charlotte. Having to leave quickly not knowing what we left behind, or how we left the condo, Cliff was helpful and was very sympathetic to our situation. Thank you Cliff for understanding and helping us! We will be back.

Great little place for a ski weekend!

  • 5 of 5

My 9-year-old son and I stayed here for a weekend of snowboarding at Sugar Mountain. The location can't be beat, as it is only minutes from the mountain and many ski rental shops. Soaking in the hot tub was nice after a long day on the slopes and the sore muscles that accompany it. It took a minute to fully understand the heating system, but after I re-read the description sent to me I got it and we were comfortable. A friend of mine stayed in the Sugar Mountain resort proper and paid a whole lot more for much worse quality. I would absolutely stay here again if I came.

Perfect romantic getaway

  • 5 of 5

From the moment we arrived we knew we found the perfect get away spot. It snowed the day before and we were scared we would have issues even making it. We had smooth sailing gettin in. The gas logs were a great treat! It did scare me to pieces the first time the logs came on when we were sitting on the couch! Then the click became a welcomed hint to the warmth to come. There isn’t a single wasted spot and it is perfect for a romantic get away. WiFi was a plus. Our goal was to unplug but with our jobs it was great to be able to still check in. We drove daily to Boone. After day one coming in, we knew our way around. Friday we literally had a grandfather mountain to ourselves...mostly due to the snow on Wednesday. Bella’s is a great little find, loved Banner Elk Cafe, and Lowe’s grocery is right there. Bring DVD’s. When you want to settle it, the cozy living room makes for a relaxing night. Everything we needed to make breakfast before heading out was there. Not a kitchen item missing. Overall we loved every second of our stay and plan to stay again in the fall!

Great little getaway!!!

  • 5 of 5

The house was in a great location and very well maintained. The house and hot tub were both exceptionally clean! I spent a few nights there with my two young children and they loved it as much as I did. Our favorite features were the outdoor hot tub, fireplace and the super comfortable bed!! A great touch we really appreciated was the three little Christmas trees outside that had lights on them.

My son was already asking when we could come back before we even left!
