About Peter & Laurie Goodwin
Peter & Laurie divide their time between Santa Fe, NM and the San Francisco Bay Area, CA. Peter grew up on the ranch and helped plant and water almost every tree and position many of the large rocks on the ranch headquarters. Peter & Laurie were married on the ranch in 1990 and their two boys both worked summers on the ranch.
Peter & Laurie Goodwin purchased this Guest House in 1970
Why Peter & Laurie Goodwin chose Los Cerrillos
The phenomenal open skies, magnificent sunrises and sunsets and spectacular night stars are just a few of the many reasons our hearts are in New Mexico. The sense of community and friendship is everywhere. Most everyone will wave at you as you drive along General Goodwin Road. Does that happen where you live now?

Our ranch foreman, Matt Oler and his family live on the ranch (about 500 yards away from your Guest House) full time. Matt meets each guest personally and is always available to help make you stay more comfortable or offer guidance on activities, restaurants, and more.

Remote, scenic, nice amenities
Beautiful setting, plenty of room, immaculate guest house with well stocked kitchen. The foreman was always available when we needed him. Peaceful and quiet away from lights so night sky was resplendent with the Milky Way. This is a true get away. Enjoyed hiking down the Galisteo River at the ranch and exploring the Cerrillos Hills State Park nearby. Fabulous burgers at the Blackbird Saloon in the tiny town of Cerrillos and cinnamon rolls at the San Marcos Cafe.
Wonderful private retreat
The Crossed Sabers ranch is wonderful secluded retreat that is minutes away from Santa Fe. The guest house is very roomy and very comfortable. Our family spent a glorious Thanksgiving there and look forward to another opportunity to come back. Thank you Peter and Matt and their families for ensuring our stay was an incredible experience.
If you are looking for the place to relax and get away from all the demands of every day life this is the place to go. New Mexico sunsets are incredible from this well appointed guest house. The peacefulness of listening to the crickets at night is something we city dwellers rarely get to hear. With a short drive you can be in Madrid to shop the art galleries or look for fine New Mexican crafted jewelry finishing with a meal at any one of the excellent restaurants. Take a little longer drive into Sante Fe to experience a larger town with enough things to satisfy just about any vacationers needs. For a day trip there are nearby Pueblos to experience a truly different way of life. When all is said and done if you are looking for lots of things to do it is available with a little bit of driving. But for me what is the best part of The Crossed Sabers Ranch is getting away from the hubbub and enjoying the beauty of New Mexico.
Cross Sabers Ranch
This place is unreal! An Oasis in the desert with so much to explore not just on the 300 acre ranch which is breath taking but at the near by town of Madrid with amazing live music many days a week and art not to mention the close trails in Cerrillos that bring you in sync with the truly unique desert environment. The first class accommodations are very special at the ranch especially if you sit back, take a deep breath in and take in your environment. The sun rises and sunsets are worth the stay alone not to mention the star lit skies that would be a wet dream for any astronomer or astrologist! If you are a geologist, you are in Heaven! End of story!
Wonderful Santa Fe Retreat
We had a great time at this beautiful, tranquil retreat! The home was very comfortable and cozy and had all of the amenities we needed. It was extremely clean and thoughtfully decorated. We enjoyed hiking and the local wildlife. We discovered some wonderful local tasting rooms for wines and spirits. The quaint Santa Fe art district was a short drive away and made for a very enjoyable afternoon stroll. We also enjoyed wandering through the nearby quirky town of Madrid. Great food was easy to find, we had a huge breakfast at a recommended spot nearby, giant burgers at a fun bar in Madrid, and a lovely meal at a nice restaurant in Santa Fe; there was also lovely patio seating during warmer months. I would definitely recommend this rental - there is plenty of space for a family or group of friends.
The house is located about 3 miles from Cerrillos, NM. Several shops in Cerrillos are worth exploring as is the Cerrillos Hills State Park where extensive turquoise mining has been done for over a hundred years.
Madrid, NM is about five miles away. Madrid is an old Company town that was built to house the workers in the local coal mines that provided coal for the railroad. The demand for coal dried up many years ago, but Madrid has blossomed into an artistic community unlike anything you have probably ever seen. Madrid is a fun eclectic place with many shops (turquoise, silver, textiles, art and much more) and several excellent restaurants and bars.
Santa Fe (downtown Plaza) is an easy thirty-five minute drive away. We recommend you take I-25 to the Old Santa Fe Trail exit which takes you directly into the heart of historic Santa Fe. We have provided lots of maps, literature and brochures in the house on restaurants, museums, activities and much more.
Albuquerque, NM. It is about a one hour and fifteen minute drive from the airport to the house. Albuquerque is loaded with activities of all kinds from the Sandia Tram, to museums and restaurants to historic Old Town.
If skiing is your thing, you can choose from the Sandia ski area, Santa Fe ski basin, Taos ski area and Anglefire ski area. All offer excellent accessible skiing depending on conditions and your level of expertise.
Don't forget about the hot air balloon festival, the wine and Chile festival, the Indian Market, the Santa Fe opera and tons more, all within a comfortable drive from our secluded country oasis!
Taos pueblo and the city of Taos are a very scenic one and a half hour drive away. Whether you are looking for history or modern art, a fantastic meal, or a picnic near the Rio Grande, this drive will enchant you. Take the "high road" back and see some of New Mexico's most spectacular small towns and scenery.
