About Stephen and Nancy Riley
We are Steve and Nancy Riley. We purchased this property in 1994 and built our first home in 2004. The villa was built in 2005.

Why Stephen and Nancy Riley chose Orosi
Nancy ripped out over 40,000 coffee trees to plant our gardens. The view, location, climate and Costa Rican people made this property our choice for our retirement home.

Fantastic! Thank you!!!
Really great little gem close to San Jose but away from it all and tucked away in a sweet, flora and fauna filled quiet, beautiful valley. Hosts were so kind and inviting. Previous poster was right! Stephen is a mean baker who will spoil you with fresh baked goodies ...if your not careful, his delicious treats may spoil your dinner....this would be a shame because cooking on the outside grill is a delight! Love this place!!!
Ascent Into Paradise
My wife and I had the pleasure of staying at Paradise Peak for five nights in June (rainy season). The property is secluded and offers truly spectacular views. Stephen and Nancy acquired the property in the early 90s and have transformed the land from a dead coffee plantation to a vibrant botanical refuge of incredible diversity.
The guest house we rented is private, safe and well provisioned. The ground floor has a large comfy bed, bathroom w/shower, kitchen, peninsula with two chairs and a small sitting area with TV and DVD. Indoor cooking is via an induction cook-top. An exterior kitchen area is available for more complex culinary efforts. A circular stairwell ascends to a second level with two smaller beds. The covered exterior patio has an outdoor table which is perfect for sipping morning coffee or a cool beverage in the evening. A outdoor jetted tub enables you to soak in nature. Aviary fans will be absolutely delighted with the variety of birds and their calls. Since the property is at altitude, temperature is quite comfortable with no need for A/C. Numerous trails run throughout the property that enable exploration of Mother Nature closeup. The views are spectacular. The hills across the valley offer a dynamic landscape that varies by time of day, lighting and cloud movement.
This location is ideal for people that want to unplug from the world and retreat to a nature sanctuary. As you are remote, don't expect high speed internet.
The hosts, Stephen and Nancy, are truly generous caring people. You will be absolutely spoiled! They are a force for good on Earth. Stephen spoiled us with fresh baked breads and a nice bottle of home brewed spiced rum.
Recommendations for guests:
(1) acquire local currency before leaving the airport as there are toll roads on the journey to Paradise.
(2) rent a stick shift versus automatic transmission
(3) make sure you have cellular service
(4) leverage a large format tablet (iPad or similar) to assist in navigating. Stephen can provide Google map coordinates. On/off ramps and turns are incredibly important and easy to miss and compounded by minimal signage.
(5) the Waze mobile app is also very useful for navigating Costa Rica
(5) be comfortable driving in chaos as Costa Rica roads and drivers can create interesting challenges
(6) The local Wal-Mart is the place to go for groceries. Stephen can also guide you to the local farmer's market.
The villa and surrounding tropical gardens nestled in mountain backdrop is gorgeous. We were treated like royalty by our hosts, Steve and Kathy. Spoiler alert: Steve is an avid and gracious baker. Be prepared to enjoy his fresh rolls and breads. We loved our 4 night stay; everything perfect both in and out. Thank you for sharing your beautiful C.R. home. Pura Vida. Tita & John
Lovely stay at Villa.
Steven and Nancy were perfect hosts for our 2 week stay at their Villa. It's an amazing location with fabulous view of the valley below. Being in the mountain region, always cool and comfortable. We came just before rainy season began in early May so there were some sunny days and also mysterious fog that rolled in too. Many birds, a treat for those with this interest. Their expansive grounds and plantings (many varieties of heliconia) offered numerous paths to explore to see their botanical wonderland. With a steep hill getting down to villa, I would not recommend for those with mobility issues, however, once my travel partner w/ rolling walker made his way down to the villa porch all the sights and sounds from this valley perch were immensely rewarding. I will add that Steve was a most gracious host by bringing over his freshly baked breads + muffins - an unexpected treat! This villa is furnished with many objects from their extensive travels, esp. Indonesian. No hesitation in saying this place is worthy of a 5 star rating.
Beautiful and surrounded by nature
If you want a place to enjoy nature, solitude and have peace and quiet, this is it. The view and sounds of nature from the porch make you think there is not another human on earth. Nancy and Steve are extremely helpful and accommodating.
We got a little lost coming in, but when we called Nancy, she was able to talk us in to them.
Steve took us shopping at the farmers market and around town...I think he knows everyone. They were more than happy to help us with arrangements for other activities, too.
Steve and Nancy were extremely flexible, too. Our plans started changing when a friend invited us to stay with him, and we ended up cutting our stay here short.
One note is that if you have a teenager, the wifi might not be fast enough for them. However, if you just need basic surfing and email, you’ll be fine.
Thank you Steve and Nancy for being so accomodating.
Amazing stay at Paradise Peaki!
We had such a great time at Paradise Peak. The villa was so comfortable and nicely appointed . It was so nice to have the large balcony with that amazing view of the mountains and so many different birds. I could just sit there forever!!!! Nancy and Stephen are the perfect hosts, so friendly but give you your space . We loved our afternoon talks with them and all the baked goods they made for us. So many things to do in the area and the people are very friendly . I would highly recommend a visit to this area of Costa Rica and staying at Paradise Peak. I miss it already.
