Enjoy your holidays in this welcoming 16th century hilltop château. The wide panoramic view from this 4-star property can be enjoyed all day long from its south facing terraces, balconies, and pool area. The château has been tastefully renovated and is outfitted with modern conveniences.
Although the feeling is very peaceful overlooking the rooftops of this small historical village, the highway entrance to the A51 is a convenient 10 minute drive away. Aix-en-Provence is 60 minutes away, Marseille 80 minutes.
Château Montfort has a Main building, a Guest wing, and the Common area. The Main building has a Master Suite and a second bedroom, both with connected, spacious full bathrooms. The kitchen and its two dining areas are open, warm, and inviting as well as offering a wonderful view. From there you can step out to the upper terraces, which includes an outdoor pizza oven.
The Guest wing has its own living room and fully equipped, charming kitchen as well as a smaller dining area also with the view overlooking the Durance Valley. The Guest Master bedroom is located on the top floor and has a connected bathroom. Next to this is a smaller room with two twin beds. On the ground level in the Guest house are two more bedrooms with direct access to the terrace/pool area.
The Common area includes the vaulted ceiling Grand Salon which serves as the Game Room, housing the billiard table, electronic games, board games and books. This is also the only area where smoking is allowed.
The heatable pool (not visible from outside the property) has its own poolhouse with refrigerator, WC, and shower. Multiple terraces and balconies –covered and open-- are available to enjoy the sun and the view.
Connection to the internet is available via WiFi in the Main building. A simple computer is also available for use to check emails and websites.
Car parking onsite is available for 3 or more cars. One covered garage with automatic opener is available as well as parking on the gravel drive alongside the chateau's exterior wall. If further space is required a small public parking is available only a few minutes walk away.
Tennis courts are a short 10 minutes drive across the Durance in Les Mees. 18 hole golf courses are located in Digne les Bains (30 minutes drive) and Pierrevert, a further 15 minutes away.
Our adult family (6 Siblings and spouses) spent a week in early September, 2016 with Gerard and Karen Planche, owners of the MontFort Chateau near Sisteron, Provence, France. The photos on the VBRO give just a flavor of what the Chateau really offers. And for us part of that was not just the great rooms, swimming pool, woodburning oven, views over the town and countryside, but the incredible hosts. Our goals as a family were to take advantage of the culture, the community and the environment - visiting abbeys, churches, ruins; village markets, local restaurants and shops perfume making shows and chocolate factories; visit the gorges, hike in the hills, glider rides. Too much to do in a week, but with Gerard and Karen's guidance, we had a busy, enjoyable, lovely time doing all of the above. They are exceptional hosts, and are now our friends, whom I think we will have to visit again in Provence.
I wish we would have had a rainy day so we could have explored the Chateau a bit more - especially what Karen and Gerard had put into it - a great collection of records (French, Swiss, English music), a pool table, bocci court, and ample space to be either in a group or separate in the six bedrooms we had.
We rented cars in Marseille for our trip to MontFort and needed them for all of our day trips, and shopping needs. The village itself is quite unique on top of a hill (winding roads Z turns!) off a main road near the toll road - fast route to Marseille. We would recommend the Chateau Montfort to any group of family or friends.
Superlative. Not even exaggerating. The chateau is immaculate, gorgeous, interesting little nooks and crannies, comfy spacious rooms for all. Every need was fulfilled and even anticipated. A word about the hosts : Karen and Gerard are 2 of the nicest people you'll ever encounter and will provide information, recommendations, and anticipate your needs. We had wee kids with us, and Gerard went out of his way to make a stabilizing brace for the baby's crib. I mean, who does that?! They were lovely and so accommodating. The chateau itself is a perfect blend of history mixed with modern amenities assuring supreme comfort. Look, whoever is reading, this place, your hosts, are a dream. The surrounding sites are amazing, go to Sisteron, check out the abbey at Ganagobie, and the market at Forcalquier (sp.) is magic. Trust me. We were 10 adults and 4 kids and we'll never forget this experience. Well, maybe the baby will forget. Because he's 6 months old. Cut him some slack.
We had the great chance of spending a week last summer at your Château de Monfort. It was a great family vacation, 10 persons, three generations. For me as the grandmother to spend some time with my 5 grandchildren was a wonderful experience. We could not have chosen a better place to stay. We had everything we could wish for. The contact with you Karen and Gérard as hosts was just perfect, correspondence, information etc in a very warm, personal and professional way.
The house and the garden/poolarea are magic. The pictures in here show just partially the beauty of the premises. It was and is quite unique!
There are unlimited excursions to be made to places in the surrounding area.
We would love to come back!
This amazing spot was like an incredible oasis where the history and charm of a beautiful chateau met the peaceful environment of Provence. The chateau was spacious; the grounds impeccable and the hosts outstanding. Who could ask for anything more!
A remarkable amazing place, with everything you could hope for! Spacious, lovely, so much charm.....we were 11 people and it suited us just fine! The owners spared no expense in their lovely home...and were wonderful......
if back in Montfort, there's no doubt we'd stay in this lovely home! Thanks for a great stay!
Place is beautiful and owners were most helpful and accommodating. The rooms were clean and had beautiful views of the countryside. It's a unique setting, comfortable and with a great kitchen--everything we'd hoped for and much more! I highly recommend it. Good location for day trips in the area.
