Welcome to Dragons Lair. We have fantastic views from our deck while you relax on our comfortable outdoor furniture. The Black Hills offers something for everyone. Trout fishing (1/4 mile) on creek in our development, ATV trails, Hiking and Biking (road and mountain), Hunting, Horseback riding and local attractions including Mt. Rushmore. Skiing minutes away with a woodstove to warm you afterwards. Located close to historic Deadwood and Sturgis in the northern hills.
This is our personal A-Frame vacation home located in a new private development. We border National Forest, 20 yards from the house. Elk, deer, turkeys, and many other species of wildlife just outside your door. Watch sunrise and sunset from our wraparound deck with panoramic view of Custer Peak.
David & Cathy work in the hospitality industry and enjoy getting outdoors. A relaxing glass of wine on the deck is quite a contrast to our hectic life back home.
David Manzey purchased this cabin in 2005
We have spent a lot of time the Black Hills and plan to retire here.
Seeing the wildlife and the scenery from our deck is outstanding. Even watching storms rolling in from the west is impressive. You can walk out the door and hike into the National Forest in seconds. The Mountain and Road cycling is outstanding.
We stayed at the Dragon Lair cabin for the 8-days prior to the 2016 Sturgis Rally.
The cabin is nearly new and centrally located to all the local Black Hills attractions. The cabin is clean, well maintained, and equipped as described on this website.
We were very comfortable and relaxed through our stay at the cabin. The deck covers two sides of the cabin with three sliding doors for excess. The roof extends out to cover a portion of the deck and is perfect for outdoor dining. While relaxing on the deck we were able to view deer and turkeys work their way through the area.
Our time was spent touring the Black Hills on our motorcycles. We used the cabin for our home base. The lower level of the cabin is a huge garage and we were able to use half of it, which definitely was an amenity we would not have at a hotel.
We enjoyed ourselves and were not ready to leave at the end of our 7-day stay. We called David to inquire about renting an extra day and he agreed. We still haven’t had enough and plan to go back next year.
Very nice, modern cabin in a secluded part of the Black Hills. Location is convenient to both the north and south attractions of the Black Hills area. Cabin has many nice features, such as a huge porch with great views, lots of comfortable furniture, a modern washer and dryer, and a garage for access protected from weather. Had a great time!
We had a wonderful stay at the cabin. It was just as pictured. The indoor space was cozy for our family of 4 and dog. Our daughter slept in the loft every night and found it very comfortable. The cabin is very well built and maintained. The deck is huge with a wonderful view. We watched the sun set several nights. The cabin is at the top of the hill. While you can see two
other cabins they are down the hill a bit so it does seem very private.
We used the "Lair" as home base for our Black Hills adventure. Located near Mt Rushmore, Wind Cave, Custer SP. We stocked up on supplies in Deadwood and made our way south for 3 nights at the cabin. We made breakfast every morning and enjoyed the stars every night. Great wildlife viewing on the road to the cabin. Hope to return again soon. Thanks David!!
We stayed in David's cabin this last August. It was a perfect vacation spot and was so nice to be able to bring our dogs along. The cabin is very comfortable. We enjoyed the fabulous wrap around deck, wildlife, and beautiful views. The cabin is perfectly located to the many things to see and do in the beautiful Black Hills. Also, on one of our daily ventures we found a great little place to eat just south of Deadwood - it's a little RV park with a pond - you catch the fish and they clean it and cook it for you right then and there, it is just a short drive from the cabin. If you have kids, this would be a fun little adventure with them. It was one of the best vacations and was so peaceful and relaxing at the cabin. We even chose to just stick around the cabin a couple days and enjoy the area there. The owners are good to work with and we highly recommend staying in their cabin!
Thanks to owners for hospitality. Wonderful mountain retreat with great views. Within an hour of Mt. Rushmore, closer to deadwood, Lead, and Sturgis. Saw many other cabins and ranches. Most didn't compare. Not much in Nemo, better ask price before you buy at camp stores there. Plenty of deer from Nemo to cabin.
