My husband and I both grew up by the beaches of South Jersey, where the closest ski mountains were 4 hours away. My husband is an avid skier, choosing to go to college in Mass, and I am an avid beach goer, sticking closer to home, and choosing a college in Philadelphia. Our Bearfoot Cabin is a happy medium, as we have the best of both worlds in Wilmington!
Judy Arenberg purchased this cabin in 2006
My husband and I first came to the Adirondacks in 1989, as one of our first 'vacations' together. After skiing in many Vermont ski areas, we always seemed to come back to Whiteface. When our 2 daughters were old enough to start skiing, we knew then that we would eventually build our own home to vacation as a family. The perfect opportunity came our way in 2005, and our Bearfoot Cabin became a reality. Now our girls are in college, and the Cabin is the one place we can all 'regroup' and have real family time.
Our cabin is less than 5 minutes to Whiteface Ski Area as well as Lake Everst, a public beach and swimming area. There are many trailheads for hiking within 3-10 minutes. In nearby Jay, we like to swim off the rocks in the summer, which is by one of the only covered bridges remaining in the area. And of course, Lake Placid is a 10 minute drive through the scenic Wilmington Notch...
Just wanted to let you know that we had a great time at the Bearfoot Cabin.
Your place is very comfortable and accommodating. We loved the location and enjoyed the woods and wildlife around the cabin.
We really lucked out with the weather we had...sunny and low winds. We had a blast.
We would stay again for sure..
Thanks and hope we can stay again in the future.

My family and I stayed here in August for 5 nights and had a wonderful time. The cabin is perfect - big enough for all of 6 us, very clean, comfortable, peaceful setting and the kitchen has everything you need. My husband and father-in-law spent most nights outside at the fire pit while my mother-in-law, me and the kids either played ping pong or foosball downstairs in the game room. The whole area is just beautiful and we would definitely go back and rent this cabin again. Thank you Judy and Dan!
The cabin was perfect for the eight of us including 2 teenagers. It was a quiet place to retire after a busy day of hiking. The cabin was clean with space enough for everyone. The kitchen was well equipped with everything we needed. The cabin was well located near many of the areas attractions. Would definitely stay again if we were in the area.
Awesome cabin at the end of a quiet road! We enjoyed the privacy and peacefulness along with some great fires in the evening! Would recommend to any group looking to enjoy some down time together. Great fishing nearby too!
My family (2 adults, 2 kids) and my parents recently stayed at Bearfoot for 3 nights and it was perfect for our needs! The location of the cabin- at the end of the street- gave that perfect secluded, surrounded by trees, feeling, however it was a gorgeous (short) drive to Whiteface and into Lake Placid. The cabin was modern on the interior, with all the amenities that you need! The layout of the rooms was perfect to give my parents some privacy in the master suite, and our family had the upstairs! The kids really loved having their own room. The rec room in the basement was great for keeping the kids occupied while we cooked dinner (or breakfast). The kids challenged Grandma to many games of ping pong! The outdoor firepit was perfect for roasting marshmallows and making s'mores. We had a great time at Bearfoot and would definitely stay here again in the future!
My grown-up siblings, their significant others, and my mom rented your cabin for a long weekend. We absolutely LOVED it! It was perfect. It was just like the pictures. There was plenty of space -- common rooms and also cozy spacious bedrooms --- so we could gather and talk and play games but also had places to retreat to for privacy. The cabin was clean and tidy and had every amenity we needed. We also really appreciated the kitchen space, utensils, and dishwasher since we took turns cooking each night. We enjoyed quiet mornings on the beautiful front porch and savored the long daylight hours around the fire pit at night (which was stocked with plenty of wood, by the way). The game room in the basement was great and we loved that you had some board games stashed under the TV (since we had a few rainy days). The location was perfect for us. It wasn't too far out of town so it was easy to come and go, but it was far enough up the road that we felt like we had our own private spot in the woods. It's a perfect getaway to do some hiking and sightseeing in Lake Placid and the surrounding area. We would definitely come back!
We stayed in Bearfoot Cabin at the end of summer and it was absolutely perfect. The cabin and surrounding area are beautiful. The is so much room - large bedrooms, comfortable living room, peaceful front porch, and a kitchen with everything needed to prepare meals. Everything was immaculate, much more a "home away from home" than a cabin. We have four young boys and they loved searching for salamanders in the yard and exploring the woods around the cabin. We brought a telescope and had amazing views of space from the backyard as we enjoyed campfires. There was so much to do in the surrounding area - we enjoyed hiking, fishing and swimming to name just a few. We definitely plan to return to Bearfoot Cabin!
Lake Everest (5 minutes away)is a public beach and picnic area, with Life Guard on duty in summer months. At the lake fishing, kayaking, canoeing, and barbequeing is available. Flyfishing on the Ausable and many Hiking Trailheads are also nearby.
The Olympic Whiteface Mountain is less than 3 miles away, for skiing and snowboarding enthusiasts.
