Corriente cattle roam the back 90 acres--a Mexican breed used for Texas rodeos (slightly smaller in stature).
Pets ages 1 year or over are welcome.
In 2011 I retired from 31 years as an engineer with Schlumberger. My wife and I own and manage three vacation rental properties. We enjoy providing relaxing and safe properties for our guests and their families.
We are both originally from Houston, then moved to Austin in the late 1960s when attending, then graduating from, the University of Texas, where we met each other in the Longhorn Band. Hook-em Horns!
Kermit Graf purchased this estate in 1853
Bellheim is 104 acres of land owned by the Grafs, a family of German immigrants who settled here in 1853. Johann Graf immigrated from Posen, Prussia (currently, East Germany), in 1853, landed in Galveston, then settled in this area and called it the “Piney Community.” Bellheim includes ½ mile of a clear, sandy-bottomed creek called Piney.
During the 1800s, the Grafs originally had approximately 700 acres of land in the Piney Community. Cotton, and then watermelons, were agricultural crops, and many Graf descendants lived and farmed in the area.
In the 1930s, during the Great Depression, our grandparents had a bumper watermelon crop. They shipped a full train carload to Kansas for sale and got a good price for them. The second carload they got a bill because the melons were sold at such a low price it did not cover the cost of freight. Life was difficult.
The land is mostly ranch land now as families have either died off or moved to the big city (Houston) where life was easier. Bellheim is the only remaining land owned by the Grafs in what was called the Piney Community. We opened it up for all to enjoy and is great for the young and young-at-heart to explore the creek, its bottom-land and ponds, and miles of trails along the creek and pasture land.
The Bellheim house was built in 1978 by Ralph Frank, Otis Graf’s first cousin and son of Olga Graf Frank. Like Otis (our father), Ralph grew up in the Piney Community. Ralph was a master homebuilder in the area, much in demand, and had a colorful character. One of his helpers would always hold a hammer halfway up the handle. Ralph sawed off half the handle and gave it back to him.
We've built a large cabin down at Piney creek. Included is an old-time outhouse! The camphouse will sleep 8 when furnished in 2016. Bring your sleeping bags now and try it out!
Mom tells Dad and the kids: “Does everyone want to stay at Hog Heaven tonight?” Then, she can have the house all to herself in peace and quiet!
I wanted to email you for several reasons, mainly to let you and your family know how much we enjoyed our stay at The Bellheim this past weekend. If it's possible to "feel" the history of a home, we felt an ambience of real hospitality and warmth, and we hope our family's happy time there added to that. There was not an amenity we could have asked for that wasn't provided and, if it hadn't been, the beauty of God's creation would have more than made up for anything we lacked. Everyone, from age 2 1/2 to 66, enjoyed him/herself!
We loved the blackberries and made a crisp on Sunday night using some leftover oatmeal cookies we already had with us. The fresh air increased our appetites and all our food tasted twice as good as usual.
We caught and released about 10 fish, although our grandson is convinced he caught the same fish more than once. And that's one of the other reasons for my email. When we talked with each other after coming home, we realized that no one had taken the WORMS we had stored in the fridge. If they're still alive, and I suspect they are, can they go into your blackberry beds?
We hope to come back to The Bellheim again and will recommend it to friends. Thank you for your wonderful hospitality.
With joy and gratitude,
Your family will love Bellheim. Ours certainly did. We had a large family gathering and there was something for everyone. You can fish, play ping pong, horseshoes, hike, or just sit on the porch and enjoy the scenery. Very well arranged, good and clear signage. Owner has made it easy to have a good stay. We hope to go again.
Had an amazing time with a group of 14! plenty space for us all and everyone had an amazing time enjoying all the property had to offer. Would def come back to this space!
My family rented the house for my wedding weekend and it was absolutely perfect! The property has so much to do and it's a great place to relax and have some fun. We played ping pong, horse shoes, BBQ'd, and a couple of the guys enjoyed one night at Hog Heaven. There was so much more to do that we didn't get to take advantage of with all the wedding activities, but I would highly recommend this place and we would absolutely love to go back sometime and enjoy everything else it has to offer! The paddle boats looked fun and there's a firepit by the water to make s'mores!
I have stayed in many VRBO properties and Bellheim is at the top of my list. From the moment we walked in we felt at home. The house is spacioys with beautiful sitting/gathering places and lovely vistas. The owners prepared us in advance, making it an easy check-in/out. Loved reading about the family/land history. The only shortcoming was that we only got to stay 2 nights! When you need some serious R and R, Bellheim beckons.
Our stay at Bellheim was wonderful! The home is very clean and well maintained, and the acreage is beautiful. We appreciated the well-stocked kitchen, and the open layout of the living/dining/kitchen accommodates great family times. The highlights for us were playing ping pong, and touring the back 90 acres on our ATV! We also enjoyed a few drives on country roads around Bellville (small & quaint) and Brenham (larger town with WalMart & HEB grocery, and more "sight seeing" opportunities). We're so grateful for our visit to this excellently managed property, and hope to return again soon!
The house was great! The accommodations were extremely comfortable and well maintained! Many things to entertain on site from paddle boat to row boat, wonderful hiking and even a playhouse for the little ones! Everything a renter could use was available! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would happily return! We would highly recommend!
