Nestled in scenic Madison County, Virginia this charming 1939 farmhouse is surrounded by woods and lovely pastoral views. There is a fully stocked pond for fishing as well as a dock for swimming and an outdoor shower. The house has 4 bedrooms and one bath with a spacious living and dining room, full kitchen with dishwasher and breakfast area. One bedroom with a daybed has a library including an extensive video movie collection and a delightful children's corner with games, books, and teddy bears. Two bedrooms have queen beds and another has twin beds. The living room sofa is also a sleeper.
Everything was so comfortable, and the landscape was truly beautiful. We had a great time eating outside and roasting s'mores. The kids had a terrific time romping around outside, and swinging on the tire swing. We will certainly be back
The property is gorgeous and tucked away from the road. From waking up to sunshine on the pond and fresh farm eggs to the homemade cookies and bottle of wine, how could you go wrong! Ann was delightful, helpful and easily accessible! We had a wonderful stay!
We came to Madison for a wedding and left with a great experience and new vacation spot.
The wedding was just down the street at Early Mountain vineyards and the home was a much better option than staying in a hotel. I looked at all the pictures online but, was still taken aback when we arrived with the beautiful views and tranquil setting. The house was much larger than I expected and was perfect for our stay.
Upon entering the home, we were greeted with a bottle of wine, fresh baked cookies, 18 farm fresh eggs (from the owners own chickens) and a wonderful note welcoming us. It gave us the feeling of coming home.
My husband, who insisted he'd have no down time to fish, was convinced to bring his fishing poles. He, our son-in-law and daughter's boyfriend, spent the majority of their time down at the pond fishing. Don't worry if you forgot something or do not have fishing poles, as there is gear at the home for the guests to use. They caught quite a few fish. Fishing is catch and release only, so the next guests can enjoy the fishing as well.
You are also permitted to swim in the pond, but that was not feasible for us do to the time of year of our visit. There are also beach towels and floats for you to use at the home as well.
We enjoyed our stay in this lovely home so much, we plan to go back in the fall for a long weekend. Hopefully the weather will cooperate that we will be able to take advantage and us the fire pit. Since we came for a wedding, we couldn't pick the weekend and had to contend with rain. So using the fire pit was not an option.
I don't want to forget to mention that the farm fresh eggs were amazing and very much enjoyed. The owners definitely go out of their way to make you feel welcomed and make your stay an experience you will remember fondly.
We highly recommend this home for your visit to the Madison area. Its a great place to getaway from it all!!!
I got married at Early Mountain Vineyards (less than 10 minute drive) so I rented Rockwood Farm for my family to enjoy during our wedding weekend. My mom and dad arrived 2 days before me to relax and take in the scenery before the wedding weekend festivities started. They felt so at home and loved the beautiful views and having breakfast and coffee out on the porch. The rental home suited our family perfectly. I got there Friday night and stayed two nights before our wedding on Sunday, and I even took a nice stress-relieving run on the grass path in the back field before my wedding ceremony. It was beautiful! My parents and I definitely plan on returning in the future. Rockwood Farm is a little slice of heaven! Thank you Ann!
My family and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Rockwood. Before even entering the home, we were greeted by the beautiful landscape, including tire swing and pond and acres of lush green land. Upon entering, we were greeted by a nice welcome note from Ann, farm fresh eggs, wine and fresh baked cookies. As we settled in and unpacked, we discovered the comfortable rooms, great library and most surprising, kids play room stocked with toys and a baby gate.
We couldn't have asked for a more beautiful setting to relax and unwind. The kids enjoyed the property and took full advantage of the lake and the swings. Us adults enjoyed relaxing in the homey living room watching movies that were provided. We missed cable initially, but quickly adjusted and just enjoyed each other. From top to bottom, it more than met our expectations and needs.
Ann was a joy to work with and we're looking forward to our next stay!
This house offers a comfortable and relaxed setting in the mountains. We were close to necessities and yet had plenty of privacy to play and enjoy each other. This is a great vacation for families who love the outdoors and a sound sleep at night!
We were looking for a quick escape from DC for the long Memorial Day weekend and we found it at Rockwood Farm. Ann was a very welcoming host and gave us plenty of tips on how to make the most of our stay. The kids loved the fresh baked cookies and we were happy with the farm fresh eggs and wine. We spent 2 relaxing days with a visit to Monticello, s'mores at the fire pit, lounging on the grass reading, fishing in the pond (both kids caught 2 fish each), watching a family friendly movie, and hours on the tire swing. It is a lovely home which is well stocked. We share a bathroom at home so only one bath was not a problem. Beds were so comfortable we slept for 11 hours one night. Easy drive to Montpelier and to Monticello if you want to soak up some colonial history and also easy access to Skyline Drive for hiking and beautiful vistas. We will definitely be back.
Near the Shenandoah National Park; Thomas Jefferson's Monticello, James Madison's Montpelier; Civil War Trails and Battle Grounds.
