Nestled in the woods looking up at Camels Hump is our cozy little cabin. A perfect getaway spot with unsurpassed views of the mountain. Camels Hump is Vermont's highest peak that is not developed by a ski area. It's all wilderness.
Feels like you’re a million miles away but it’s only a 15 minute drive from town and 4 major ski areas, Stowe, Sugarbush, Mad River and Bolton Valley are about 1/2 half hour away.
Camels Hump trail head is right down the road for access to awesome hiking, backcountry and XC skiing. Very rustic but with all the amenities.
It’s really not so little - about 1800 sq ft. with 2 bedrooms, large living room with massive fieldstone fireplace, spacious kitchen and well appointed bath and a toasty woodstove.
The upstairs master bedroom is huge with a king bed and large sitting area and frenchdoors leading to a small balcony.
The downstairs bedroom is large also and has a double bed and a twin. Amenities include washer/dryer, propane heat, all cookware and linens.
Although the roads are very well maintained 4 wheel drive is recommended in winter months or mud season.

John is an Innkeeper - he runs the historic Old Stagecoach Inn right in town. He is an outdoor enthusiast: skiing, fly fishing, mountain biking, canoeing, hiking etc. He can provide a wealth of knowledge about these surroundings.
John Barwick purchased this cabin in 2007
I had been intrigued by this property for years - the view, the proximity to Camels Hump trailhead and the feeling of seclusion while only being a short drive from town all made the cabin my favorite spot.
We needed a quiet getaway from the real world and found it at this cabin. John was super helpful and makes himself available if needed. The cabin is very clean and cozy. The master bedroom is very large with its own seating area and French doors which lead out to a balcony with a beautiful view of Camel Hump mountain. The kitchen has everything you need for cooking all your meals. The fireplace made for relaxing evenings in the living room. We will most definitely return as this was the perfect getaway. I highly recommend this property!
Cabin was very clean and had everything we needed for the weekend. John was very friendly and accommodating upon our check-in. The property was very inviting and had well more space than the pictures show. It had a stocked kitchen with plenty of items to prepare our meals. The fireplace is big and very nice to sit around - it was match-ready when we walked in. The views are to die for! Would stay here again without hesitation.
The drive from town takes some patience as it is 5-6 miles up a dirt mountain road. Mud season can get a little tricky, but we had no issues.
We highly recommend this property!
Myself and my Husband wanted a Cabin in the woods which was peaceful and beautiful and we certainly found it with John's cabin. As previous reviews have stated John was very helpful with showing us up to the cabin and the amenities at the cabin, helping us with recommendations and maps of how to get to places and also tickets for skiing, very nice man.
The Cabin is exactly how the pictures show, it is comfortable and warm - we were there when some days it got down to -14! Big open fire, with plenty of wood. We could easily have lived in that cabin, the views were amazing and it was only 10-15 min drive into Waterbury. Waterbury itself had a great supermarktet and a village store with plenty of products. We were from UK but didn't struggle with getting what we wanted or needed. We also visited Ben & Jerry's and ate in The Blackback and had drinks in Prohibition Pig - we tasted the local #1 Beer Heady Topper in Cork and enjoyed Brunch at Maxi's - everyone in the whole village was friendly and accomodating.
We were sad to leave and will definitely be back. We stayed 7 nights.
Thanks John - Kind Regards Nicky & Dean
5 of us came up from DC to spend a long weekend touring VT breweries and enjoying the autumn glory of Vermont, and this cabin was a wonderful home for us. Plenty of firewood, wifi (that made the lack of cell signal unimportant), beautiful view and removed from everything, but also a 12-15 minute drive into Waterbury for delicious food and local brews. John was very helpful and responsive despite being on vacation and kind for allowing for a late check out. Also the beds are super comfortable, and the cabin is well stocked with the desired accoutrements. Description and pictures are accurate. Feels like an authentic cozy Vermont mountain cottage. We would easily stay here again!
Waterbury must-go brew pubs and restaurants (best VT beer selection in state): Prohibition Pig (great bbq and beer), The Reservoir, Blackback pub, probably a few other places we didn't try.
Short drive to grocery, Ben and Jerry's Factory, apple cider mill.
We had a fabulous stay at this beautiful quaint peaceful cottage! We spent our evenings by the fire sipping wine, our mornings walking the quiet wintery road while it snowed and our days, skiing. The large roaring fireplace made it tremendously cozy. Wood was plentiful. The bedrooms were spacious, the kitchen bright, it was clean and well stocked. John was tremendously hospitable, escorting us to the cabin to give us the full tour so we knew where everything was. He even offered us discounted lift tickets via the Inn. We would come back in a heart beat. You will thoroughly enjoy your get away!
I had the privilege of staying at the Camels Humb Cabin for ten nights, and I only wish I never had to leave and come back to work! The cabin far exceeded my expectations. Before entering inside, you hear the sounds of a roaring river while having a spectacular view of Camels Hump. The cabin has an open floor plan and utilized all of the space very well. There is wi-fi, a stereo with nice speakers and a blu-ray tv in the main bedroom (which is HUGE). The fireplace is enormous and the wood is plentiful. The kitchen is loaded with every amenity one might need, from measuring cups to coffee mugs. The cabin also has all one might need for a comfortable stay. Everything at the cabin was very clean. What made the experience even better was the owner's willingness to assist in anyway to make the stay more enjoyable. John lent me a snow brush, snow shoes and made sure that I had plenty of firewood. He also took me to the cabin upon my arrival to show me around and explain everything to me. The trip to the cabin is about 7 miles from the main road in Waterbury, but it is a peaceful scenic trip getting one closer to the entry to Camels Hump hiking trail! From the cabin, you can easily access plenty of hiking trails and the local ski mountains. If you prefer to stay in town, John runs the Old Stagecoach Inn which looks like it would be a fantastic place to stay. Overall, I really cannot think of a single thing which would have made the stay any better. I highly recommend this property and look forward to visiting again.
