About Gary Fritz

I am a general contractor, I built The Blue Marlin in 2007 to sell, however, the market left and I spent around 20k furnishing the house with all the finest furniture, new beds, dining room set, sheets, towels, everything one could want in a home. I do not live in this house, only use it as a rental, I have tried to make the house one that I would want to spend time in. I am 66 years old and live in Tallahassee with my three rat terriers.

Gary Fritz purchased this house in 2007

Why Gary Fritz chose Florida Panhandle

I have been going to this area of the gulf coast since I was a child. The area has changed little, there never has been any real development and when I bought the lot the Blue Marlin is on, I decided to build this house to this floor plan based on everything I have learned as a builder in the past thirty years.I have put all first class components in the house in hopes to sell it and now I am happy it didn't sell, as I enjoy renting it. Everyone has been so great in the past five years, I have met many interesting people who have rented, and have no regrets that the house didn't sell as I first intended it to. I am a firm believer in everything happens for a purpose and The Blue Marlin is an example of life not following my plan but still turning out for the best. When I first started renting the house, I didn't have any idea how it would go, but everyone has loved the house and loved staying there, I even have around seven or eight people that come every year, and it such a blessing and a pleasure to rent the house.

What makes this house unique

The Blue Marlin is first a very private and secluded house, there are things there in the surroundings that haven't changed in thosuands of years, the area has not been developed in any way, you might see five or six people on the beach during the week, maybe a few more on weekdays. The fishing is excellent on the beach, I stay one week per year with my sister and her husband and have a great time every year. There is so much wildlife, you will see deer, white squirrels, maybe a black bear, foxes, dove and quail, turkeys, thousands of sea birds, bats, wildcats, the state park one half mile from the house is five thousand acres with walkways going a long way back into the wilderness. The state park looks like Africa in many ways. There is a nice long dock with all facilities. fi you wiish to just get away from all the rat race, this is the place for you, you will feel like you have gone back in time with the silence and the waves you hear from the beds when you go to sleep. People are few on the beach and I want you to feel like this is your own house for your stay. There are no personal effects that I keep there, I only use this house for a rental. Please come and share the peace and quiet to rejuvenate yourselves from this loud and crazy world.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a great time at The Blue Marlin. We walked on the beach, played on the beach, fished on the beach and caught Red Fish, Trout, some sting rays, and even a shark. We had a great day trip to Cape San Blas, Saint Joe, and Saint George Island. Great food was found at the Tropical Trader. It was great to be at the end of the "point". The state park was great for morning runs, bike riding, and walking. The water was calm enough to put in the kayaks and they were used frequently. The house was great and the perfect size for all of us (8 total). Everyone had pleanty of room and the size of the kitchen and dining room was perfect for watching movies and playing games. Thanks for letting us stay, what a great week.

Family Vacation

  • 4 of 5

We had a wonderful time at the Blue Marlin. The house is very comfortable with a very open floor plan and plenty of room for everyone. Our favorite place was the huge screened in porch. We had coffee every morning and watched the sunrise over the ocean. The owner Gary was very responsive no matter how many times I contacted him before we arrived. He even provided a contact for a fishing trip for my husband and daughter. We also went on a boat trip at nearby Wakulla Springs and had a nice dinner right on the water at Angelo & Sons Seafood Restaurant. A good time was had by all.

Great getaway for the nature enthusiast!

  • 5 of 5

Many dozens of crabs caught in the creek adjacent to the house. Three crab traps available to use. Outside shower/hose for rinsing off sand when coming in from the beach. Large porch swing hanging from the garage. Screened-in porch was great since there were lots of mosquitoes. Two families of 4 able to sleep comfortably and living room with adequate seating. All amenities as described. Needed to buy paper towels, toilet paper, laundry and dishwasher tabs, and handsoap. Little odd with a window in each shower with no privacy curtain/blind. Wifi only suitable for casual Internet browsing & checking email -- too slow for many apps or video streaming. Closest store was Dollar General (~10 min) but we went further to Walmart (~30 min) once.

Recommended eats: Posey's and Tropical Trader Shrimp Co.

Recommended outings: Wakulla River kayaking (TNT Hide-a-way), Wakulla Springs Nat'l Park & Lodge for hiking and the on-site boat tour. Able to see manatees up close and our guide was great (Jeff). The beach at the house is on the bay so water not blue and little if any waves. Great for the smaller kids, though. Travelled to St. George Island twice for clearer water and waves -- fantastic place for good eats, clean beaches, and good souvenirs. Locals were very nice and helpful every place we went.

Weather didn't always cooperate but we're from the coastal south so nothing unusual. Wildlife was plentiful -- many, many deer spotted along roadways.

Owner responded very quickly to any questions via email and correspondence concerning the rental prior to arrival was timely.

Overall, wonderful vacation. Something for everybody. Peaceful seclusion and yet not too far from our needs. Many great memories made here.

Owner's Response: So glad you made happy memories at The Blue Marlin, it is truly a unique home. Very sorry I didn't have adequate paper goods and laundry soap, I will speak to my cleaning crew. Bathrooms can only be seen before helicopter or plane, therefore I do not have curtains on those windows. I am looking into other internet service at this time.

We loved the Blue Marlin house. We had six adults and four kids and hall had plenty of room. The kitchen was great. The best part was the porch and the view of the beach. The only recommendation if have for the house is an elevator.

Fun in the Sun!

  • 5 of 5

What a fun place to stay! There were 6 of us (two couples and two singles). The layout of the house was perfect for all of us -- room to gather together, room to have privacy, and room to spread out. Huge kitchen and eating area was a plus, but my favorite place was the screened-in porch. Perfect for the morning coffee and a book. The property is well maintained and clean. The beach is a very short walk from the house and private, since there are only 2 other houses nearby. Plenty of restaurants close by (had great raw oysters at Mad Anthony's) and fishing charters, if you're interested (we were!). Overall, this was a great place for us.

Beyond what we expected!

  • 5 of 5

This will probably go down as one of the greatest vacations of all times. We are from Georgia by way of Kentucky. Every spring break our family comes down from Kentucky and we choose a beach to take them to. My dad is a huge nature lover and reading all the reviews of the Blue Marlin prior to our booking was very appealing. I never imagined we would get to experience everything we did. The house is AMAZING! Everything we could ask for. The perfect size for the 10 of us and that kitchen/dining and living room area is every beach lovers dream. When we were actually in the house, we stayed on the screened in deck most of the time. The weather was amazing so several days we opened all the windows and doors and let the ocean breeze flow through the house. Does it get any better then that? What we really didn't anticipate was all of the amazing views of nature. In the canal next to the house we caught plenty of blue crab. Two alligators were also housed in that canal; one about 3ft and one about 5ft. We saw stingrays everyday, a nice sized shark on the last day we were there. We watched dolphins almost everyday swim very close to the shore. On the last full day we were there, we witnessed a male bald eagle swoop into the ocean, grab a huge fish and take it to a sandbar near the shore to eat. His mate flew in seconds later to get her share and take some back to her nest. What are the chances that you would ever get to witness that? If you want to see nature at its finest and in its natural habitat, this is the place to go. Gary has taken well care of his property and makes sure that you have everything you need while you experience the wonders of nature. The only suggestion I have for you is this: The water is not clear. We called it tea water. Each one of our children (there were 5 total) cut their foot at least once while we were there on unseen things in the water. Make sure you use water shoes. Most importantly, since the water is not that clear, and due to all of the ocean habitat we came in counter with, our children did not venture in the water above mid shins. I would say this is not the place to go if you want to venture way out in the water to just swim. Some may be brave, we were not. It would definitely not keep us from going there. The education our children received from the nature in its natural habitat is something they will remember for years. We can not wait to return and look forward to many more stays!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your wonderful review, I do hope you can return in the near future. I am going to have The alligators removed from the canal, and placed back in Tucker Lake where they belong. There are many beautiful swimming areas around alligator point, public beaches where the water is clear. The water at the Blue Marlin is not clear because that's where the Ochloknee River empties itself into the gulf bringing all that Georgia mud with It. Also there is a state park 1/2 mile from the house, there's a nice beach with good water.

Raw Florida On The Half Shell

  • 5 of 5

Gary's home is the perfect get away to enjoy 'old florida'. This well appointed home is just the ticket for eating in after buying fresh and local seafood from the roadside seafood sellers. There are also excellent locally owned seafood restaurants featuring fresh fare.

The beds are comfortable and bathrooms are clean and modern. The kitchen is massive and all a chef needs. The screened porch is a plus for sleeping outside and just enjoying the sea breeze.

Be prepared to make your grocery store run worthwhile as the larger grocery store is a bit of a drive, but the remote location is worth the planning. We would definitely stay here again! Thank you, Gary!
