Just wanted to thank you for the great weekend we had at your cottage. The place was just what we were looking for cozy, clean and charming. Close to beach and hiking trails. (P.S. I didn't get lost hiking, just took my time enjoying the beautiful views!) We enjoyed driving around checking out the local attractions. Best dinner was when we bought lobsters, corn and a blueberry pie road side and went back to the cottage to cook. Five Islands was a nice drive, had a great lunch on the dock topped off with ice cream.
We look forward to enjoying another long weekend at the cottage.
Judy was so nice to us!
You should have heard the squeals of joy when we pulled up and showed the kids (8 and 14) the bunkhouse they would be sleeping in--this is such a fun and cozy place, stocked with toys and games.
My husband and I slept in the cottage, and we all enjoyed gathering in the main room, and cooking a few meals in the nicely arranged kitchen. The owners were very responsive and hospitable, both by email and in person.
While there, we loved the walk over Morse Mountain to a very secluded beach, as well as visits to the local state park, the granite fort, and the Maritime Museum. This is a nice place to relax and get away from everything (aside from the mosquitos, but we were prepared).
The house is clean and well kept, with some fun features and a very peaceful setting. The small store up the road has most of what you'd want, with everything else available a few miles away in Bath.
Very accommodating. The pictures are very up to date on what to expect to see. Unfortunately the mosquitoes made it a little unpleasant, but we were warned to bring bug spray with us after we booked. I would also suggest providing at least the town upfront, as we were looking at Portland and after having to state we were interested in renting were then told the address. I am hoping it was the time of year we came. We arrived late on Friday night, and they made sure to have all the lights on for us so we did not have to stumble in the dark. Great big spot lights at the front and the back of the cottage was nice to have. I definitely would come back again.
A beautiful place with many options to visit nearby. The lovely cottage provided everything we needed. Judy was courteous and respectful and we greatly enjoyed the space, privacy, quiet and peacefulness.
It would be nice to have curtains in the front rooms and also a mechanism for recycling and composting, if possible. We were unable to locate the parking pass for the beach down the road, that was mentioned, but greatly enjoyed Popham and Reid Sate Parks, as well as, Morse Mountain.
We would recommend this cottage to anyone looking to experience Maine off the path of the masses.
Thanks for a wonderful environment for a week's solitary retreat and a romantic cabin for my fiancée and myself for the second week. :)
This is a very cute cottage, ideal for 1-2 people. My hubby and I stayed for 2 nights on the fourth of July with short notice. The owner, a local lady and true Mainer, is very sweet. She brought us 2 beach chairs (we flew into ME from out of state), a lobster pot, a floor fan (it was hot & humid after a month of rain), a corkscrew, and a bedside table & lamp upon request. The kitchen is lovely, living room small but cozy, bedroom small but cozy, bathroom shower small but adequate. The lovely owners make up for the sulfur smell of the (artesian well?) water--but hey, this is coastal Maine! Our input to the owner was to provide a bit more storage space for guests, such as a pedestal for luggage in the BR and several hooks in the hallway for wet towels and things to dry. They are probably working on that now. As I say, they were very hospitable, which makes all the difference in a rental. If you understand what a Maine cottage is all about, this is a quintessential Popham area cottage--but newer! Leave your digital devices at home and bring a good book to dig into. Very quiet here. We were awakened one morning by a young deer squeaking for her Mom. Picky city folk who hate quiet and the country, and who expect and need wi-fi and cell coverage 24/7, please stay away--this aint for you! But--people who love coastal Maine, like to relax in nature and "get away from it all" but stay near the beach in a simple cottage with access to local lobstermen, organic farms, artists, New England shipbuilding history & museums, and nature hikes--this is for you! - review from a relocated New England gal
My family and I camp on Hermit Island every year. Now that I am older, and my daughters have their own familys, camping is too much work for me so I chose to stay just a few minutes down the road from them in this Perfect little cottage! Its very simple. No cell service, phone,(but in case of emergency you can use owners mothers phone in house behind cottage) TV or radio but the owners suplied plenty of game boards to play! It is very clean and comfortable! My daughters praised the person who decorated it! The family who own this cottage are very pleasant and helpful! I have found the place I will be returning too year after year!
Rates include cottage only. Use of Bunkhouse is additional $25.00/night.
Pets are welcome contingent upon discussion with owner.
